The name ‘Edgbaston Palace’ is very misleading! My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night last year, when I purchased what seemed like a cheap deal through Groupon. We were very disappointed with the hotel itself, it was grotty and a bit run down, the room was very, very basic and the windows were very thin so you could hear everything going on outside. There was no cosy or welcoming feeling about the hotel foyer/restaurant/bar or the rooms. I’ve stayed in nicer hostels and Travel Lodges. If you can get a really, really cheap deal and just literally need a bed and aren’t bothered about the surroundings then you can’t go wrong but I would strongly advise against booking a room for any kind of occasion.

Hagley Road is brimming with hotels given its close proximity to the city centre and offices near the Five Ways area. Although you have the larger chain hotels around, I’d recommend a local business like Edgbaston Palace Hotel. It has recently been renovated, which has significantly improved the premises. Previously it was outdated and poorly furnished. Now, it’s brighter, cleaner and somehow the rooms look more spacious. I’m guessing this is because of the neutral colour scheme and minimalist furnishing. Most of the rooms are twin bedrooms and they all have ensuites that are spacious in comparison to the size of the room. They’re well maintained and clean. Most of the rooms overlook the courtyard, which is a pleasurable view. The restaurant has a modern and homely feel with a surprisingly vast menu including Indian cuisine too! The hotel is very reasonably priced given its facilities, look and location.

I have spent one night in this hotel with my husband and a couple of friends after a party in Birmingham and I just have to commend this Establishment for its service and attentive staff. As one of my friends was using a wheelchair, the staff not just provided all assistance necessary during her staying as also changed her to another room on the first floor. The two building that compose this very sophisticated hotel is a grade II listed one built in 1854, but just in 1971 it became a hotel. Some refurbishments works have been made since then and nowadays it’s a very modern accommodation placed on the heart of Hagley Road. As There is a 24 hours bar inside the building, not leaving the hotel to have some drinks was just what we need in a cold night in Edgbaston. The rooms are very comfortable, all of them containing hairdryer, plenty of coffee and tea bags and some other treating like cookies. The noise of a busy road such as Hagley was not noticed and the night sleep in this hotel is 5⁄5. I didn’t have time to try the breakfast but the restaurant menu seems to be very appealing. The average price of a night at the Edgbaston Palace is £ 30 for single rooms and £ 65 for double rooms, but if you book it in advanced on line, it’s pretty likely to find some cheaper fees. In general, staying in Edgbaston Palace is a very pleasant and satisfactory experience. I would recommend it for anyone who want to avoid the chain hotels without having to pay the price of a 4 or 5 stars room in the city centre.
