Birmingham City University

I entered the BCU city centre building for the purposes of procuring a job and found myself in the canteen there.
It was doing a good trade and was popular with a wide range of students.
The food looked good and the service team were dishing out food at a rapid rate.
Whilst there I was impressed by how modern the building was, it really impressed.
Just over the road from the Millenium point and near Aston Uni campus the BCU building was holding it’s own, particularly inside where it’s modern interior set the tone for a modern educational establishment.

This is the University I attended for three years and this place will always be a place that remains in my heart for many years to come. I had three fantastic years here and made so many friends. The nightlife is terrific in Birmingham and the City North Campus is only three miles away from the City Centre.
With state of the art facilities, Birmingham City University is continuing to improve year in year out. Because I was studying Journalism, the City North Campus is where I spent the majority of time.
This University gave me so many opportunities I never dreamt of at the beginning of my course and I have gone on to work for companies such as the BBC and Sky. This would not have been possible had it not been for the University.
I have many fond memories of Birmingham City University and attending this University gave me a real insight into the field I was studying. But it also gave me the chance to let my hair down on a regular basis and meet new people along the way. A University that is on the up for sure.

I went to Birmingham city university from 2007 to 2010, graduated from the Media & Communications department. I enjoyed my time there and have had a lot of involvement with BCU since graduating. The course I did is really good for those aspiring media enthusiasts who’d like to progress in that industry. Many of my peers who I went to Uni with have gone on to do some fantastic things, even in this really dodgy economic climate. I was based at Perry Barr, city north campus– not far from town.
I never really got bored at Uni, as I always found something to do. To be fair, there was always something to do as part of the course.
Since graduating, I have been back to BCU at Perry Barr quite a few times either or events/​conferences. The good thing about the University is that once you become an alumni of the Uni, you can still continue making the most of the Uni’s resources which is always good for those graduates who can’t afford to buy the equipment they need to use to progress in their chosen career.

Don’t know about the Perry Barr but my friends who are 3^rd years at the Birmingham Institute of Arts and Design are totally disappointed with their course. All they get to do is to see their tutor one a week. He is specialized in throwing temper tantrums and putting others down rather than teaching. Many have complained but nothing has been done. The facilities are poor, not even a proper gallery, no talks, no exhibitions. The place in Costa Green is far from anywhere, not even proper shops to do groceries. And the evaluation and feedback forms are collected by the tutors themselves so who dare to complain.

As I am employed here, you could say I am biased, but I still believe Birmingham City University has alot to offer. It has a great range of courses, and a variety of campuses, from leafy Edgbaston to Perry Barr running through a range of smaller locations in the city. There are plans to develop a new city centre campus which should be operational within the next few years. Birmingham City University has recently been extremely successful in the resaerch assessment exercise, showing that its research is world class in a number of areas. One downside is car parking — particularly at Perry Barr, this is often full quite early in the day, but the other facilities, such as Students Union, libraries, catering, nurseries, etc, are excellent

A great uni in the middle of a busy city. They have several campuses throughout Birmingham so you will often see the BCU logo about the city.
BCU offer many courses for either full or part time learners, and the lecturers are great from what I’ve seen. The Baker building in Perry Barr campus is the best one out of them, but they do have a good range of facilites for students.
There are two café’s, and a huge canteen in Baker Building, also there is a bar and pub located in the rather large car park — this is full by 9.30am most days and can cost a quid sometimes. Also the library here is amazing, its so big and has plenty of copies of texts, they even have private study rooms and normal desks around the outskirts of the library.
A great uni!

Birmingham City University once known as Univerity of Central England once known as Birmingham Polytechnic has X-​factor runner up, Ryhdian, on the list of alum. The uni is one of the region’s leading universities. It offers studies in science fiction and has campuses throughout the city. The main campus is the city north campus in Perry Barr. I have attended a few universities in the past but only at BCU have I felt that I really am learning. The professors and facilities are outstanding and there is both a bar and pub on campus.
