King’s Kurry

Great authentic Indian food. Best in town. They have a new menu and I can recommend the «Taster Menu» (I had the non-​vegetarian version). A really nice «collection» of dishes. I really liked the spicy tomato soup with ginger flakes. For lunch there’s a buffet.

Das Kings Kurry war mal gut aber die Karte ist stark reduziert worden und die Auswahl nur noch minimal. Die Bedienung wollte uns primär alle mögliche Zulagen aufschwätzen.
Wir haben ein Lamm– und ein Shrimpgericht bestellt. Leider war sowohl die Menge als auch die Qualität der Speisen bescheiden. Vor allem aber der Preis ist total überrissen. Für ein wirklich kleines Schälchen Hauptgericht mit Fleisch muss man zwischen 32 und 35 CHF bezahlen und für den Reis wurden noch mal 6.50 CHF extra berechnet. Ein 0.5 l Bier schlägt auch noch mit 9 CHF zu Buche. Habe also lange nicht mehr ein so schlechtes Prei-​Leistungs-​Verhältnis erlebt.

I’ve been here some colleagues during midday and we were presented with a menu that is really short, basically you can choose from four options. We were expecting that «buffet» but it seems to have disappeared after the renovation… And you can only get a buffet if you are 20 people or…
OK, so you can first choose Indian or business and then either vegetarian or not. There is also another option which is to take one or two entries and try all the curries. Prices range from 26 to 39CHF but the menus are not «flexible» and you can’t take only one plate from them, they are three courses appetizer, main course and dessert which are all the same.
So, the appetizer was a tomato soup, a bit spicy, was good. The main course was a spinach based curry (veg), again, quite spicy but good (you’re in an Indian restaurant, that’s to be expected I guess). Desert was mostly disappointing with an industrially made biscuit filled with some fruit along with vanilla ice cream.
Service is decently efficient and the place is really clean. A bit slows as you would expect in Zurich (they may ask you if you want additional bread/​rice but, should you want some, you may have to ask multiple time as they tend to get «forgetful»).
Animal friendly, there was a dog with the people eating on a table close to us, that’s quite strange but I don’t really mind. Might be important if you travel with your dog I suppose.
At the end of the day, not a place I would really go back to since it’s not really central and I would actually have to go there for no really added value.

Einfach nur lecker und die Bedienung ist unglaublich freundlich. Absoluter Tipp für feines indisches Essen in gehobenerem Ambiente

Seit Jahren schon erfreut sich das King’s Kurry grosser Beliebtheit, weshalb eine Reservation fast immer ein Muss ist. Für diese Beliebtheit gibt es aber auch gute Gründe: King’s Kurry bietet beste indische Küche, in einem stilvollen Ambiente, es ist strikt Nichtraucher (auch im Garten!) und das Essen ist schlichtweg klasse. Meine Favoriten sind das Chicken Tikka Masala oder das Lamm Biryani (ob man das so schreibt?) — die Bedienung ist zuvorkommend, freundlich und auch bereit mal etwas breiter Auskunft zu geben, wenn sich jemand mit indischer Küche nicht so auskennt.
Mittags gibts offenbar ein tolles Buffet, dass ich mir aber noch nie gönnen durfte.
So oder so gilt: Wann auch immer ich etwas Fernweh nach dem verrückten Indien habe, wird es hier — wenigstens für ein paar Stunden — kulinarisch gelindert.

Wir waren zu zweit mittags dort und es gab wenige Gäste. Das Buffet bot 4 versch. Vorspeiesen, 8 «Sösseli dazu», 4 – 5 Hauptgerichte an sowie 2 Desserts. Die Desserts waren nicht so mein Fall. Die Blätterteig Vorspeise, die grüné Minzsosse, die Tomatensauce und die Hauptspeise aber extrem lecker! TOP! Für 26.50 CHf am Mittagsbuffet: schön vollgeschlemmt ;)

The price and quality is good, but i espected more. The staff was friendly. The atmosphere was good. The food was not that good. I ordered lamb, but it does’t taste like it was lamb. It was certainly not the best Indian restaurant.

This is really a very nice Indian restaurant, in my opinion the best in Zurich. There is a wide variety of dishes, especially at lunchtime for the buffet, which is a 3-​course spread (with dessert and appetizers). The price is rather on the medium-​high end price-​wise, but not unusual in Switzerland for a good restaurant. The best deal for the money is the lunch buffet, at CHF 28.50 a person (about £15). Places to sit can be hard to find, so they suggest you call to reserve. In the summer, the terrace is open. Excellent food, attentive, kind staff, and environment is warm and inviting.

Habe das King’s Kurry auch schon diverse Male aufgesucht und für gut befunden.
Leider erfreut sich der Laden einer ausserordentlichen Beliebtheit und so ist es teils schwer einen Sitzplatz zu ergattern.
Im Sommer ist es leichter, da wird der kleine Garten aufgemacht und man sitzt ganz lauschig unter dem Efeu.
Die Qualität des Essens ist wirklich sehr gut, die Auswahl gross und der Service wirklich super freundlich.
Rundum: ein guter Tipp für einen schönen Abend mit aussergewöhnlichem Essen.

Nettes, kleines indisches Restaurant in zentraler Lage, sehr nah am Bahnhof Wiedikon. Das Essen ist gut, mittags gibt es auch ein Buffet à discretion zum fairen Preis. Auch Take-​away und Lieferservice. Wer gerne indisch isst, ist hier an der richtigen Adresse.
