Bar à café le Barbare

Très joli petit café, bien tenu. Je conseille de goûter le chocolat maison (épais) qui est un vrai régal surtout par temps froid. Une terrasse pour profiter des beaux jours complète tout à fait le commerce.

GO FOR THE HOT CHOCOLATE! It’s the best I’ve ever had – melted chocolate with amazingly good flavor. Just don’t get the «liquide» option because it’s not as thick and luxurious. The chocolate cake I tried once was mediocre, but every time the hot chocolate is the bomb!!! Barbare is a must-​do when in Lausanne!

Precioso café donde lo que debes pedir es un delicioso chocolate caliente.
No era excesivamente caro, para lo que es Suiza, y estaba impresionante.
El café es acogedor, no muy grande, muy auténtico, y el emplazamiento es una pasada. Si no es invierno tienen terracita desde la que observar la fachada de la armería de principio de siglo situada un par de casas más bajo en las mismas escaleras.

Un chocolat chaud à l’ancienne, épais au goût de velours! Et jolie surprise avec un piano qui n’attend qu’à être joué! !

Really excellent hot chocolate à la maison as mentioned before, but also amazing homemade ice cream! I highly recommend the pear-​flavored one in particular, it even has the texture of a pear. Otherworldly!

Best cup of hot chocolate that I have ever had. If you are in Lausanne be sure to bank some calories for a cup or two of it. Remember to get the whipped cream. The version with ice cream and cream is also really delicious!

I had heard lots of great things about this place, so my expectations were high. I ordered a croque-​monsieur and their famous thick hot chocolate (Chocolat Maison chaud). Having tried a croque-​monsieur in France with the bechamel sauce and grated cheese on top of a ham and cheese sandwich, I was expecting that I would get something similar. Instead, I got a ham and cheese sandwich on toasted (not even grilled) bread. The hot chocolate, while interesting in texture, was too sweet for me to finish even half of it. I left disappointed.
The only reason I won’t give this restaurant a 1-​star rating is because it has a nice atmosphere and setting.

Super génial! Wonderful, wonderful place to try their amazing hot chocolate. For out-​of-​towners, this is not ordinary hot chocolate. It’s thick and amazing. Definitely ask for it «avec crème chantilly» (whipped cream). The atmosphere is so cute with the umbrella covered tables and has a beautiful view!

Ah le Barbare, c’est mythique pour les étudiants lausannois (surtout les lycéens de la Cité ;-D) D’ailleurs, il est rare que la petite terrasse qui donne sur l’ancienne place du marché du Moyen-​Âge soit vide ! Toujours des étudiants à table en train de déguster une bonne glacé maison en été ou un de ces très fameux chocolat chaud du Barbare !
Situé juste en-​dessous des célèbres escaliers en bois de notre bonne vieille Cathédrale de Lausanne (à visiter), le Barbare est idéalement placé pour un peu de calme, sans être complètement paumé !
Le décor colle bien avec l’ancienne Cité de Lausanne et les tenants sont super sympas !
Les touristes apprécieront certainement le charme de ce petit café (2 de mes touristes y sont retourné tellement ils ont aimé le cadre typique et le chocolat fondu !)
Pour les petits creux, on peut prendre des mets de bistrot: omelette, croûte…
Mais s’il faut passer né serait-​ce qu’une fois au Barbare, c’est les chocolats avec glacé qu’il faut prendre. Absolument !

Bistrot mythique, lieu de rencontre des gymnasiens et des étudiants de la ville. Né sert pas d’alcool, mais est réputé pour ses chocolats chauds.

One of the first places to bring your friends when visiting Lausanne on a chilly winter’s morning.
