Beautiful Interior at this luxe Asian restaurant — plus there are tables outside for dining under umbrellas. Great for sushi and their Teppanyaki Table(which kids love!). They present their sushi very nicely, everything is plated in a stunning way. The service is great, the kitchen can be slow when it gets busy. Their Lunch and Dinner Specials are posted on a board outside the front door — not inside — so be sure to check it out for great values!!! Dress as you wish. This place should be packed but not that many locals prefer their local Criollo favorites. Happy Hour all day/night, great deals there too. Great air-conditioning inside.

Want smoke in your hair, this is the place to go,. want slow a&& service, this is the place to go,. want super mini sushi rolls, this is the place to go… If it wasn’t for the«bus boy» we would have never been able to get our food. To make matters worse my fiancé & I didn’t eat together because the server forgot to place my order. Needless to say when we come back to PR we will avoid this place like the Zina virus.(–5 Stars)

I’ve been here for many years. Always impeccable service, food and amazing experience. My fav one of the island! The teppanyaki is out of this world

We had read some of the reviews, but strolled by anyway. There weren’t that many people eating which was a little concerning, but the food was great. Had some sushi, which was fantastic as well as Teppanyaki(hibachi) — We had filet, lobster, chicken & shrimp. The lobster was overlooked, but everything was prepared well. Service was pleasant, prompt, but not pushy

Visito varios lugares de Sushi, pero este es muy peculiar ya que tiene teppanayaki en el mismo lugar, el chef fue muy amable y la decoraciòn del plato de Sushi me encanto!

Amazing sushi and very reasonable prices. We stumbled across this when we were in old San Juan looking for something different than traditional puertorican food. There sushi was awesome and it was priced great. The calamari appetizer was some of the best we have had. The staff was so attentive and courteous as well. We were amazed that we could just walk in on a Saturday night and get served right away.

Simply the worst service ever! We waited for fifteen minutes to place our order after another fifteen waiting to be seated. There were seats open. Then the food took another 30 minutes to come and once it did our waiter vanished. We had to go ask for refills and when we finally got our check… I had to go to the cashier to get my change. Imagine how happy I was to find that a 15% tip had been added to our table of two! At the bottom it says the tip was only a suggestion but it was already added! Also, the drinks we had to go ask for weren’t free refills. We got to pay $ 2.50 for each of those. A rip off. Don’t waste your time getting ignored and over charged!

Horrible service. Had to tell the server we were ready instead of them asking us. Waited 30 min for a simple lunch. Asked in between and they were rude and asked us if we wanted to cancel our order. Added gratuity automatically, so the servers had no reason to do well. Wish I could have not tipped at all. Definitely not worth the meal. Would not recommend.

Food was very good, but the service was so slow we could barely stand it. It was 2 hours before everyone in our party got their food. I would never come back here.

It is terribly terribly terribly slow.literally. And after more than an hour of waiting, we didn’t get any surprise. The dish is just fine — not worth waiting at all. And you know what, when I asked why my dish is still not done, what they said was — we didn’t have any more room in your table to place it. THATISRIDICULOUS! R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S!!!

I’m sitting in this place right now. I waited two hours to see the first dish I orders. And guess what? They got it wrong! Don’t ever waste your time to come to this place. Their explanation was they only have one chef for both hibachi and kitchen. What a joke

I love this place. Their lunch specials are great — I keep coming back for the salmon bento box. And the tableside grill(teppanyaki, hibachi) is awesome. Very good sushi. Good service. Good drinks. Cool atmosphere.

Was recommended this place by an employee at the El San Juan Sushi Restaurant. El San Juan hotel has a BANGIN sushi restaurant so I thought this was going to be fantastic. It was far from fantastic. Martini was bad and there was a bug in it but if you tell them how you like it, they fixed it immediately. The sushi menu was the smallest sushi menu I have ever seen with little variety or creativity and no special rolls. Maybe the other food is good… but dont waste your time coming here for sushi. I am assuming the girl that rec this joint is dating someone here or smoking crack…

We had walked around Old San Juan all day(after walking all the way from Condado and visiting the forts first), so needless to say we were starving and tired and ready for a nice lunch. J-Taste definitely exceeded our expectations. The dining room is lovely and well decorated and allows you to feel like you are in a relaxing and serene escape far from the chaos and clutter of charming Old San Juan just outside. I’m not a sushi fan, but my friend is and he had a huge tray of various maki rolls and he said they were spectacular. I’m always bored at sushi places as I have to get the same old bento box and it’s always boring. However, not here. It was huge and first came with a delish bowl of miso soup and then I also had gyoza for an appetizer. I chose the terriyaki chicken bento box and it included a huge boness chicken breast that was tender and flavorful, a wonderful salad with ginger dressing and a california roll. All were perfect. Oh, and some mini spring rolls. The only reason I can’t give this place 5 stars is beacause it’s a bit overpriced… by maybe 10% or so. However, I would still come back.

We were very hungry after long day of exploring Old San Juan and came across J Taste. This place was awesome. Great service, friendly staff and the sushi was delicious! The prices were very reasonable and the restaurant itself had a really cool vibe.

Of all of the places we visited while in the San Juan area, Old San Juan turned out, surprisingly, to be our favorite spot. Of all the restaurants we tried, J Taste was by far THEBEST. We are quite particular when it comes to Japanese influenced cuisine and sushi. The food was fabulous and the server(Sebastian) as well as the other staff was so helpful and friendly. This was the place we were treated best in all of the San Juan area. Our every need was anticipated and amazing food was delivered in a timely fashion. We were not disappointed by any item we received. Additionally, happy hour lasts all day if that is your thing.(It was definitely ours!) And the drinks did not disappoint. When I return to the San Juan area, I will make it a point to visit J Taste again and, most likely, several times during my stay. Definitely try it out! We are picky and we loved it!

After searching for nearly an hour for a decent looking restaurant to eat at in Old San Juan, we stumbled upon this place. Did not really expect to eat Asian on our visit, but it turned out to be a good decision. Lots of saki and sapporo, which is never a terrible thing! I can only compare my meal to the Japanese/Chinese/Sushi places back home, and this wasn’t too bad. The menu is extensive with lots of options. I had the shrimp special with a hot roll(I think… spicy tuna, crab and I added avocado) and my dinner date had the orange chicken with the tempura chicken roll. Needless to say, we weren’t disappointed. I rated it 3 stars based on the type of sushi I am typically used to. but if you’re having a hard time finding a place to eat like we were, this is an excellent choice.

We were hungry after a day of exploring forts and streets of Old San Juan. We wanted a light lunch, because we had dinner reservations at a fancy restaurant for our anniversary that night. We love sushi and are pretty opinionated when it comes to sushi. J Taste did not disappoint. We had some Sapporo and ordered 4 rolls to share. The rolls are 4 pieces each. The fish was very fresh and nicely plated. We had spicy tuna maki, spicy Yellowtail, hamachi sashimi and crazy maki. The service was good. We highly recommend J Taste to anyone who likes sushi.

Nice trendy décor. Good service. Expensive. Charged for an extra bowl of rice $ 1.50. that hurted my pocket even though i didnt end up paying for dinner. Food tasted average to me because I have an Asian tongue. They served a mixture of Asian food: Chinese food and sushi. My bf father decided to come in here as we were walking by and trying to located a place for dinner. Our party of six was quite hungry and tired so I think that’s why the food tasted a tad better than normal. The place was pretty dead for a weekend. They do serve beer. There was two sushi chefs. We ordered chicken curry, magnolian beef, pepper steak, assorted sushi rolls, and bowls of rice. Portion size was decent. It was enough for us to share and not get overly stuffed. Staff are Chinese speaking. Located close and in the heart of San Juan. Pretty easy to located. Overall, in my POV j taste is just ok tasting. Nothing that made me jump for joy. Nothing knocked my socks off. Nothing that sent my taste buds soaring. Reasons being: 1) I’m Asian. 2) my taste buds may be different than yours. 3) San Juan isn’t a place known for Asian food. It’s known for plantain and mufungos. So if you want a quick fix cause you wanna have Asian food then you’re at the right spot.

I had a bit of a tourist guilt when I went to J Taste. I was visiting Puerto Rico from Memphis for the very first time. And on the third day of being there I got a strong craving for sushi even though my brain was telling me to eat as much Puerto Rican food as possible on my short stay in San Juan. But honestly I was getting a bit tired of mofongo(sacreligious, i know). So I ignored my brain and I’m glad I did because J Taste had some of the most delicious Japanese food I’ve tasted in a while. The highlight of our meal was something called Gindari Yaki. I’m sure I’m butchering the spelling but it was basically a piece of black cod marinated in miso. It was fresh and buttery. That’s what good and simple seafood’s all about. The sushi was good as well. We also had some gyoza dumplings which were delicious; we even kept the sauce to dip our sushi in later. The cocktails were also very good, especially the lychee martini and the saki martini.

Three perfect words to describe this place: 1. Fresh — The fish taste so fresh that I would have swore they just caught it out back and sliced it just for me. 2. Delicious — The sauces were so perfectly flavored and the right touch for my rolls. Oh, and I can’t forget the strawberry mojito! It was by far the best cocktail I had in San Juan. 3. Extraordinary — Their service was exceptional, the quality of the food was above great and beautifully presented, and the atmosphere was very trendy. A hidden gem. Why not 5 stars then? Not that I am a penny pincher at all, but I do think the prices were a little above average for sushi.
