I visited this location in Mayaguez tonight for dinner. HUGE MISTAKE! Where do I begin? Let's see....
The place was packed, with people coming in from church, holiday gatherings and other events.
A. The restaurant was short staffed. I have learned that most of the Sizzler locations in Puerto Rico don't have enough staff to wait on the tables or efficiently manage the replenishing of food items, this is something that each franchise owner NEEDS to address ASAP. Why can't they hire enough workers and retain them?
B. Once I entered the buffet line, starting with the salads and then soups, most of the bowls and platters, were almost or entirely empty. The soup containers lacked labels, so you really did not know what type of soups they were. Ditto for the salad dressings, one had to guess what was what. One of the soups, the cream of broccoli was virtually scraped empty. WHY DO THEY WAIT UNTIL EVERYTHING IS ALMOST GONE TO REPLENISH THINGS??? The whole section looked ill maintained and sloppy.
C. After waiting for about 10 minutes, the kitchen staff managed to replenish almost everything. I was NOT the only customer complaining about this situation to the few people working the tables. I was referred to the manager on duty, but he looked overwhelmed.
Next, I went for the hot dishes. More of the same. Almost or virtually empty platters and containers. Again, asked for the manager. Complained that there was not sufficient items to choose from, especially meats. The fried chicken was dry and looked stale. The pulled pork look greasy ( later I tasted it and it was overloaded with salt ). The beef stew was virtually all vegetables and the few meat pieces were really dry.
D. Never bothered with desert. I do not call vanilla pudding and much to be desired peach cobbler, desert.
E. Codiments on the table, standard in most restaurants? I.E., salt, pepper, ketchup, hot sauce ( Tabasco )? Good luck. Got a pepper shaker by sheer luck.
After having to put up with all of the above and getting up THREE TIMES to complain to the manager ( others did the same ), I got up and requested a FULL REFUND. I tipped the poor waitress because she worked hard to do all she could for us.
I am sorry. But people go out for dinner to 'hopefully' have a nice, relaxing meal, that is also, hopefully, 'decently' prepared and presented. Tonight it was all but a complete fiasco.
To the Sizzler Mayaguez franchise owner: You need to FIX these issues PRONTO, or more people will continue leaving these unfavourable reviews!
NUNCA MAS REGRESO!

Have to agree with Nick M.‘s review… we didn’t order off the menu, but paid for the all you can eat food bar… with drinks we paid $ 60+ dollars for three for lunch. Considering that the food was absolutely horrible it was a huge rip-off. Not even the salad bar could offset the cost because it was extremely limited and everything appeared to have«expired» on it. In an effort to not leave completely hungry we tried some of everything… soup, pizza, the Puerto Rican food and desserts… there was nothing edible. The service was also inadequate and it took us way too long to get glasses for our beverages and silverware to eat food that we ended up not being able to stomach.

Disgusting. Most of us weren’t able to stomach any of it. The«salad bar» has few vegetables, and almost all of them are pale grey in colour. The soup was gross and poorly mixed from concentrate or powder. The dessert section was post-apocalyptic. There was a forlorn ice cream machine in the corner with various foods smeared all over it. It sort of worked, though it took like 2 minutes to fill a tiny cup with«ice cream.» I put quotes around ice cream because this stuff is clearly not. I’m pretty sure it’s corn syrup with food colouring added. The taste is indescribably vile. The fried foods were no better. The steak was wet. It was not particularly palatable, even at this price point. We decided to leave and go to Coldstone Creamery instead. At least the ice cream there is edible.

First the bad: the bathrooms were not very clean and needed toilet paper. The good: they have a salad bar. I find that restaurants in PR don’t offer enough fresh veggies or fruit options which is why I come here when I visit the island. I can only have so much fried food before I start feeling yucky. This place has greens. Not great but it’s readily available and you can eat lots of it since it’s buffet style. Don’t bother ordering anything other than the food bar. There are tons of options(rice and beans, meats and poultry, mofongo, etc) and you will not go hungry.

The typical American buffet with a puerto rican touch. The food is okay and the service was less than okay. The buffet includes a variety of salads,(nothing fancy just the classics), pasta, rice, beans, tacos, soups, deserts and fried chicken. The ice cream machine wasn’t very clean and since we started there was a piece of fried chicken in one of the desert trays and was still there after we finish!!! Please, keep the buffet clean, specially if it is peak hour. The waiter only went once to our table and we have to ask him for extra clean plates for the buffet, instead of him bringing them like in other occasions.

Average everything. A bit pricey I think, if you eat a LOT then you’ll like it.
