Copamarina Beach Resort

It’s for old people. Not fun oriented. The bar isnt open late, no room service late, no music throughout the resort, no excursions, no real programed activities for guests to interact. The beach it’s full of seaweed and they won’t pay the government to clean it (federal reserved land– Dry Forest) that’s been cheap. If you want a real beach you will have to go next door Caña Gorda or drive about 20 min to Playa Santa. No staff to take your order while you are sunbathing by the pool (a real let down for me). The staff don’t seem to be happy working there, they are just friendly enough ’cause they have to and you can see it. The rooms are clean but the showers need updating. The landscaping looks nice and relaxing, maybe at some point this resort was something but now it’s on its way down for sure.

I stayed at Copa Marina at the end of August for 2 nights. I enjoyed relaxing at the pools, making conversation with other guests, the ferry service to Guilligan’s Island, and going on the bio bay tour. That’s about the only thing that I really enjoyed about this place.
The accommodations are mediocre but if you’re looking for a place that’s a bit nicer than a moderately priced hotel, this place might work. The biggest issue that I have with this place is the service. It’s horrible!!!
On the nights that I stayed there, a local conference or event was taking place so there were people all over the place. Unfortunately, the people next door to my room were also part of this conference and seemed to be having a post conference party in their room. After 3 hours of not being able to relax, watch tv, or sleep, I decided it was time to call the front desk to complain. However, there was no one at the front desk. I tried and tried and no one answered my call. This went on for about 20 minutes. I then considered walking to the front desk in my pjs but decided to call the restaurant instead. After letting the restaurant phone ring for about 10 minutes, someone finally answered. I asked if they could send security to the room next door to end the party. The security guard took an additional 30 minutes and ended up knocking on my door instead of theirs So much for tying to be discreet. Security ended the party but the whole experience left a really bad taste in my mouth. It took over an hour from the first time I called until the party goers were silenced to remedy this situation. Unacceptable in my book.
If you’re going on your honeymoon or really want to spend some time reconnecting with your significant other, I would stay away from this place. When you’re in the shower, you can hear people talking as they walk by. As mentioned above, you can also hear the guests next door. This means that they can also hear you so if you’re planning on having some passion filled caribbean love go to El Conquistador, or La Concha instead.
If you’re afraid of birds, save yourself the headache and skip the outdoor breakfast buffet. There were some ugly black birds all over the place that you have to fight off so that they don’t eat your food.
Oh! I almost forgot. The very old beach towels that they provide their guests are $ 8.00 per towel if you happen to lose them so make sure that you attach them to your hip and I mean literally. If you’re planning to swim, you can’t do that either because the shores of the resort are filled with sea grass. In all of my years of travel, I’ve never experienced anything quite like this.
If you can deal with all of the above, then you should be good.

We stayed at Copamarina from Jan 10 – 16 and loved the resort.
This is a little long, but here are some important points I would have liked to know before we stayed.
– 2 hour drive from San Juan, rental car is a must. The drive is beautiful, through mountains and all highway & main roads until you’re a mile away from the resort.
– Driving in San Juan is like a demolition derby — no turn signals, quick lane changes, no yield signs — take your time and you will be fine. Once you get on the highway, it’s better but still be cautious.
– The road to the resort is a very windy, long road & take your time when driving. If you’re from the mainland, this road would be a one way, single lane road. Locals are used to driving it and drive pretty quickly around the curves.
– Off of the curvy road, you can take a hike to Fort Capron– the view is amazing– and see the lighthouse.
– Surrounding the resort is the Dry Forrest. Traveling down the road past the resort are many secluded beautiful beaches, at the end is the path that goes right by many of the beaches of the Dry Forrest. Park your car at the gate and take the path, it will save you from driving the complete opposite way to the welcome center to get a map.
– Everyone was extremely friendly at the resort, Pedro at the surf shop was the person that stood out for us. Ask him about local places to go and where to eat.
– Burger King is at the main corner and Econo grocery store, just two blocks on the main road, sells beer and liquor and is a lot cheaper than stopping at local stores.
– Behind the Burger Kings is a local spot — sorry, can’t remember name — they sell pizza and their burritos are awesome.
– At the resort, take the 5 minute boat ride to Guilligan’s Island for $ 8pp. Rent snorkel gear, take a snack and water, and have an amazing time. A beautiful mangrove ridden beach that has a natural lazy river.
– Also at the resort, ask for the Bio Bay Tour by Captain Frank for $ 30pp. The other tours I saw only allow you to kayak through the waters, but Frank let’s you swim in the water and it is truly a once in a lifetime experience. Keep track of the stages of the moon as you can see more luminescence at a new moon.
– Ponce is 45 mins east and Playa Sucia– amazing beach– is 45 mins west.
– Guanica is a beautiful area of Puerto Rico. Staying here allows you to enjoy the heritage and do as the locals do without many tourists.
– Rooms were basic, but the view from our room (204) waking up every morning was amazing. The bathroom could use some updating, but we spent very little time in our room so it wasn’t a big deal for us.
– Free wifi, but spotty. On our balcony, we had great service. You are in paradise, so don’t spend it on your phone!
– Sunsets at the resort are truly amazing. Beach chairs were always available and you never had to fight for a spot on the beach. Weekend music was a great addition and was very romantic sitting by the beach listening to it.
– The beach at the resort is not swimmable. You can get in the water up to your knees before there’s seagrass and it becomes uneven on the bottom. There is a lot of fish and starfish in this area, but we swam over it and tried not to walk since it’s not a normally disturbed area.

Very peaceful place if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of a big city. Quiet and relaxing place, gives you a chance to disconnect for a bit.

My first time in Puerto Rico and both myself and my wife loved whole 5 days we spent there.
I’ll try to be detailed and constructive about this review.
SERVICE:
— we haven’t ran into even 1 person who wasn’t smiling or being nice from all the front desk folks to restaurant servers, surprisingly everyone spoke English like it was their first language
FOOD:
— we had breakfast a few times and a dinner, food was excellent, presentation was great, dishes and silverware was spotless and best of all I didn’t find it expensive where most resorts really take advantage of you and overprice everything
ROOM:
— very large air-​conditioned room with 2 queen size beds, plenty of space in the closet and lots of cabinets to store your clothes in. One decent size LCD TV on the wall with a few cable channels (none were good imho). Water stream is very weak (compared to NY) which is a common thing on all the islands from what I understand. Bathroom was overall very clean but they could put a better soap/​shampoo shelf in the shower section. For some reason floor was always wet, I couldn’t figure out if it was a shower leaking or the toilet.
Mattress was okay but pillows were way too hard for my taste (we went to Marshall’s and bought a pillow for me next day). For some reason the ceiling and walls of the bathroom had a lot of smashed tiny mosquitoes which were never cleaned off. Nothing really to complain about, just a few small things that needed to be improved.
AMMENITIES /​THINGS TO DO:
— they have 2 kiddy pools and 2 for adults, very clean and spacious. Because 1 of the pools was under renovation the hotel was giving rides to Gilligan’s island at no charge where we went 3 times. 1 amazing thing about the island, even though there are tons of garbage bins there are thousands of beer caps on the floor all around the place, someone really needs to clean that, I also picked up a few very sharp pieces of glass from the sand. Make sure to rent a snorkel set (lots of beautiful fish on the island)
The beach at Copamarina is basically unusable because once you pass first 5 feet of clean sand you step into mud, so taking a ride to Gilligan’s is unavoidable.
I haven’t seen any jetskis, the would definitely benefit from having them.
Live music in the restaurant on weekends was nice as well.
Downtown historical Ponce is a definite to see, we rented a car from the airport so it was a short drive away. A few nice museums and tons of beautiful spanish architecture to see.
THINGS TO IMPROVE:
— please, get an ATM, there’s none in the resort
— The zigzagiest road in the world on the way to the resort had ZERO signs directing to the place, please put some big easy to see signs starting from the Burger King
CONCLUSION:
— we both loved the place and would definitely recommend it to others.
Copamarina is not a 5 star resort but rather a solid 4 which worked for us very well

I really enjoyed our 5-​day stay at the Copamarina. The rooms were clean and a good size with a view of the ocean. The beach had lots and lots and lots of seaweed in it, which made it unpleasant to swim in, but there’s s public beach next to the hotel that doesn’t have the seaweed problem and is great to swim in. The beach itself is narrow but really pleasant. There are some beds that you can lay out on. There’s also several pools and hot tubs. Food options are pretty limited on this part of the island so you’ll end up eating at the hotel a lot. The food is good, the service is okay — a bit slow sometimes.

I don’t know why I gave even one star! The management service is bad. They have no courtesy how to treat their guests. We got a room where the bathroom lights were not working and the flush made loud noise. After letting them know they moved us to this other room which was smaller and very smelly and hence we asked to just take the original room.
They serve complimentary welcome drinks but apparently they thought they gave us a coupon which they never did and when asked for the coupons they denied.
The rooms are very basic for the price you pay. The pool area and the beach was the only good thing I liked.
Never coming back.
