My boyfriend and I strolled in here looking for some simple to-go Chinese food. It was late and most places were closed. I must say Mandarin House exceeded our expectations for Chinese food. Also, the restaurant was clean, tidy and looked newly renovated. The server and(I think) manager were both very attentive and provided excellent service. We ordered the hot and sour soup. It was perfect. We also ordered the General Tso’s Chicken. It was pretty yummy. I wish we discovered this place sooner. I would love to try their other dishes. I highly recommend this place and would definitely come again.

Surprisingly we found a Cantonese restaurant here in Puerto Rico. Very good Cantonese food. I love the chicken very chewy and tasty! Will definitely come back if we are in Puerto Rico again.

As a Cantonese, I would say dim sum here is authentic. Good service and nice experience.

After looking through the different reviews while we were on vacation and wanting some Asian food, we settled on this place. It was okay. nothing great, but just okay. The good: — The food was all right, I had some sushi, which was okay considering it was at a Chinese restaurant. I also had some hot and sour soup, which was very tasty. The boyfriend had some kind of meat(three months later I am finally writing this review) with broccoli and rice, which was just okay. The awkward: — We were in San Juan during a slow tourist time of the year, so there was literally no one else in the restaurant with us. The three severs that were on staff, plus the sushi chef all stared at us while we ate. That also meant that we got our food in a very prompt manner and did not have an issue with getting water refilled. I finished my food before the BF was done with his food, so I commenced joining the crowd and staring at him finish his meal. Needless to say. it was quite uncomfortable and we were very ready to get out of there. It’s a shame because it otherwise seemed like a nice restaurant.

Dim sum and french fries were OK, but rice, pepper steak, satay, miso soup were all abismal. Service is decent, but who wants to be served a plate full of garbage. Edit: on top of that, 15% gratuity was added for a party of 3, which brings 2 stars down to 1.

I can’t believe that he served me roast duck from last night. I order spicy tofu and roast duck. The tofu was no spicy at all which I don’t really care. Then comes the duck which I found it not fresh. So I asked the owner when is this duck cooked and he just straight answer to my face: yesterday! Omg I can’t believe he actually said that. I would never pay 49 bucks for a overnight roast duck. Would you?

Visited Puerto Rico this week and ate 3 times at Mandarin House! Coming from LA and being Chinese, I wasn’t expecting anything authentic. But the flavors are spot on and amazing! We did look at the tables next to us and realized they cooked more ethnically for us(they served fries with their rice and lunch specials). Over the three times, We ordered the whole steamed fish, fresh Chinese veggies(in a soup and also stir fried), eggplant, soup, and fried rice. Each dish was perfectly balanced in flavor and no msg. Prices were a bit high, but obviously we thought it was worth it to keep going back!

The people here are really, really nice and very attentive. Interior could use a bit of a spruce up but big, comfy dining room. Had the chicken with cashew and came with lots of veggies. California roll to start was good. If they had Sriracha, it’s been a perfect meal.

Over priced mediocre Chinese to me. Didnt have high expectations as San Juan does not have big Chinese population. Not trying to be picky, but read the good reviews and decide to try it. Ordered a small steamed fish, $ 17.45, tofu with veggie, $ 17.45 and moo shu pork, $ 16. When the waitress brought the fish, you could smell it fishy. The fish was tough; obviously frozen fish. The tofu had way too much starch. The moo shi was not bad. They add 15% tip automatically on the bill for two people group. The total bill was over $ 72 for three dishes. Being a Chinese, I would prefer just go to one of those cheaper American Chinese places.

If you expect good service here, don’t bother. They suck. There are three waiters in the house, only one is working while the other two are walking zombies with no idea what their basic duties are suppose to be. After we sat down, it took them ten minutes to bring us a cup of ice water and the hot tea that we ordered, while the other two walked around twice a pitch of ice water, looked at our table and didn’t say or ask anything, as if we don’t exist. At least you can ask, right? Now, when it comes to food, we had a great time here. Since both of us are Chinese American, it’s fair to say that the food was authentic.

Service is amazing. Before you think it, it’s already done. Good was the best I had in Puerto Rico, not that I’m a big fan of the local cuisine. Just nice to be able to eat something I was use to. Service Service Service!!!

I wasn’t a fan. The beef didn’t taste like beef. I was worried about what it may have been. No FREE refills on tea.

The service was great and the steam fish was awesome! Check my pictures out. I would definitely come back to eat the sea bass again. It wasn’t fishy and very flavorful. I thought after the seafood soup I wouldn’t like the fish… I’m glad I was wrong!

The steamed fish here is awesome! That’s my first recommendation at this place and my second is the porridge. The colada here has heavy coconut cream taste and I love it.

We partied during Happy Hour and onward, scrambling for dinner somewhere on the Condado tourist strip after 10PM. Surprisingly most restaurants were already closed! Except for Mandarin House. While the restaurant has Mandarin cuisine, it also has Cantonese cuisine, sushi and other Asian items. There was one other couple in the restaurant, along with three waiters, bartender and sushi chef. The waiter was very friendly even though it looked like they all wanted to close up and get home. Can I base my rating on one dish? Yes since that is all I ate! While my friend ordered a Rainbow sushi roll, I was in the mood for cooked fish but the menu displayed whole fish at pretty steep prices. I was about to give up when the waiter said he will check with the kitchen to see what they have for me. They had a whole local fish but he didn’t know the name of the fish. His price was much cheaper than the menu fish. Sometimes being Chinese-American is helpful in a Chinese restaurant LOL. I said as long as it isn’t catfish I’ll try it. The waiter correctly assumed that I wanted it steamed Cantonese style, moist and garnished with oil, soy sauce, green onions, cilantro and ginger. The fish was cooked just right, very fresh and tasty! It passed my authenticity test. It exceeded my expectations for a Chinese restaurant in Puerto Rico. With a bowl of rice, I think my fish dish came to about $ 20, about half of the menu fish. I still have no idea what the fish was called, but if you want to try it, look at my Unilocal photo and show the waiter.

When I first walked in, it was very empty and dead. However, after our food came out, they were amazing. Staff were extremely friendly and polite that spoke 3 languages lol. Food was delicious!!! Give this place a chance and you will love it like i did.

Pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. I came here after a long day in Old San Juan looking for something different to eat. There were a few people in the restaurant, but otherwise, it was quite empty. While looking through the menu, I noticed that the prices are very expensive. Also, it’s interesting to note that Mandarin House had a bunch of very authentic Chinese dishes. There were even frog legs on the menu, something that you don’t see very often. After a long time deliberating, I finally decided on the cheapest option, the $ 11 house special fried rice. It comes with ham, chasu pork, bean sprouts, green onions, and egg. I was blown away by how good the fried rice was. It was incredibly authentic and was super flavorful. The plating of the fried rice was also very nice. The portions are slightly smaller than your average Chinese restaurant, but it was still very satisfying. Overall, you’d be surprised at how authentic and tasty the Chinese food at Mandarin House is. If you are willing to spend some serious $, then I’d highly recommend this place. If not, their fried rice is still delicious and definitely worth trying. The service was great – I think the server was shocked to see someone completely devour a plate of the fried rice in less than 5 minutes. I definitely recommend Mandarin House if you’re looking for somewhere unique to eat in Condado.
