Cute (size and atmosphere) authentic fado spot in Lisbon! They don’t serve anything besides small apps/​drinks so grab dinner elsewhere and come back for the amazing fado! We had three different singers who were entertaining and passionate. it was hard to leave. The tiny space gets really crowded but it definitely adds to the homey ambience.

Very local spot. We watched a grandfather sing to his grand daughter of maybe 7 yrs old.
Fado is the best part of Portuguese culture. Be respectful! Order food and drinks while the lights are on and be quite when the lights are off and the Fado performance is going.
Price is low.
Eat dinner somewhere else.
But Fado atmosphere is the best. We went to another place and Tasco do Chico is the best!

So much fun! Great authentic atmosphere, live singing, felt like we were in an old movie. Got the Sangria and Flaming Sausage, olives and bread, it was a great snack to much on while drinking and enjoying the live singing+ guitar. Highly recommend for an easy but fun night!

The beer is cold, the wine is good and the atmosphere is really nice. The fado presentation was really good!
The downsides are the cigarette smoke, the uncomfortable benches and the food that is not that good. The highlights were the chorizo and cheese.

Love, love LOVE this little Fado bar. Went here twice while in Lisbon and both nights they were fully booked but the two of us managed to squeeze in. Even though I didn’t know what they were singing about it just such a soulful place! Good mix of locals and like minded tourists and massive glasses of house wine for € 3, who can complain! Great location too!

Le fado, j’ai jamais trop accroché. Du coup, quand ma mère a insisté pour une soirée fado, j’étais moyennement emballée. Hé bé.
Nous sommes venus la veille pour réserver, et le lendemain on est revenus à 20h pétantes. Sans réservation c’est assez risqué vu que le lieu est une toute petite salle (une première salle avec des petites tables de chaque côté, collées les unes aux autres, une deuxième semblant de salle face au bar et puis les toilettes au fond). Ca se remplit extrêmement vite. Le temps que les chanteurs se préparent, on commence à boire (sangria !) et à tapear (fromages portugais, chorizo flambé, croquettes).
Les deux serveuses sont très sympathiques et serviables, elles courent partout pour servir tout le monde rapidement afin que le spectacle commence à l’heure.
Déjà repéré la veille, un papy avec une canne et l’air pas commode du tout est planté sur le banc à côté de la porte et fume comme une cheminée. On se dit que ça doit être un habitué. Ou un genre de videur…
Quelle né fut pas notre surprise quand après le premier chanteur, Papy se lève pour le rejoindre, et pousse la chansonnette. Diosssss. Cette émotion. Les larmes étaient toutes proches à notre tablée :le fado c’est beau, mais Papy a rendu ça magnifique ! (on soupçonne le Papy d’être le grand-​père du premier chanteur).
Wouaouh. Au fil de la soirée, les chanteuses et chanteurs pro et amateurs se succèdent (aux styles différents mais tous très bons) avec quelques interludes pour ceux qui veulent fumer ou reprendre à boire et manger. Une fois que vous en avez marre d’être émus, vous pouvez continuer à faire la fête dans d’autres bars de la rue, vive le Bairro Alto.
Superbe soirée, merci maman, c’était top. Très émouvant.

Tasca do Chico is a MUST DO when in Lisbon. My friends and I wandered here after dinner on a Monday night; it was standing room only, but luckily some people left and we were able to grab a seat. I sat next to a local gentleman and he shared with us stories and talked about life in Lisbon.
Fado music is powerful and beautiful and although the singers are ‘amateurs’ they are really QUITE good. Sets are usually 2 or 3 songs, and the lights go off, and everyone stays quiet listening in awe of the fado. After a set, the lights come back on, and its time to order more cocktails or wine, and take a bathroom break (or leave the bar completely).
A glass of wine set me back approx 3 euros. It’s a little hard to get the servers attention, you might have to go to the bar to order drinks.

Estive recentemente na Tasca do Chico e foi uma experiência muito interessante. A tasca é pequena mas muito castiça o que faz que fique cheia depressa. Mas quando digo cheia é mesmo «sardinha em lata», obrigando-​nos a partilhar mesas de 4 com seis pessoas, servirmos de costas dos bancos das pessoas das mesas de trás, etc… Tudo isto tem o seu lado muito positivo que é o de aproximar as pessoas, convivendo-​se uns com os outros independentemente da lingua que se fale.
A comida é boa, embora a minha experiência tenha sido à base dos petiscos. O caldo verde estava óptimo, o chouriço assado também, assim como o queijo seco que, eventualmente poderia ser um pouco maior ;)
O fado é «vadio» e parece-​me que aqui canta-​se por prazer e com alma e não pela fama ou para se tentar chegar a ela.
O atendimento é simpático e o ambiente é muito agradável. Da próxima vez vou tentar chagar mais cedo ;)

Make a reservation for a good seat for the wonderful fado. Affordable wine, beer, and sangria. Musicians and singers are top notch. Tapas is local. Great experience.

Perfect place to have a drink while hearing gorgeous fado. The little tasca was packed when we went there! Tourists as well as Portuguese enjoy this place.

Bar à tapas très sympa. Ouvert tard le soir. Bar fumeur… Prix très raisonnables. Service attentionné qui cherche a nous comprendre.

L’endroit parfait pour venir découvrir le fado et boire un verre en toute tranquilité. Les prix y sont abordables et le personnel agréable. Une petite faim? Dégustez un chorizo flambé avec du gromage typique !

Tasca do Chico has free fado on Mondays and Wednesdays. You may think that free fado might not be very good fado, but this is by far my favourite venue. It has cheap food and drinks and spectacular, authentic singers. Many of them are elderly and sing in warbling tones that are incomparable to anything I’ve heard elsewhere. This is the sort of place I recommend to all my friends seeking a cozy, authentic fado experience. Get there early (before 10) or make a reservation in order to guarantee a seat as it tends to be packed!

I wouldn’t visit Lisboa without stopping by Tasca do Chico! First of all, I love this block of Barrio Alta, lined with all kinds of bars and clubs, including lots of dance clubs. So many Europeans from all over party in this district on the weekends (any time of year, not just summer). But to be clear, Tasca do Chico is the real deal — a cozy, fun place to hang out with a real fado scene. Not like the tourist-​only fado venues. You’ll find plenty of locals here, singing along with the revered standards. The place is packed, so you’ll likely have to wait to get a table, unless you arrive early.
I remember the beer and sangria being reasonably priced and the food being pretty good. Only had a couple of dishes and can’t remember what we ate, but it was somewhere between good and amazing. I prefer a couple of the Fado clubs in Alfama, Mesa de Frades in particular. However, this is a great place to stop by for one drink or to spend the full evening. It has a very comfortable and inviting vibe.

If you’re staying in Bairro Alto or Chiado, this is the place to go check out fado music. Sure, there are lots of fado spots in the Alfama neighborhood across town (including the second Tasca do Chico outpost), but this one is authentic, cozy, and totally worth spending an evening getting your fill of saudade (the Portuguese word for a yearning nostalgia and longing). A Tasca do Chico has free fado vadio (amateur, but in name only — some of the singers were incredible) on Monday and Wednesday nights. Arrive early (around 8pm) to snag a seat in this teeny-​tiny tavern and enjoy a beverage or two before the performers start around 9pm. A highlight of our time in Lisbon!

I visited Tasca do Chico after asking for a recommendation for a place to see fado in Lisboa here on Unilocal.I received some recommendations and had to select. Tasca do Chico, as it turned out, was right around the corner from where we were staying.
The place is small and packed, but is very friendly and full of vibrant talk, fun and interesting people as locals and tourists gather around the singers to hear the great and unique music of Lisboa.
The prices of a beer aren’t bad at all. I think half a litre costed me three euros, and that is a small token to pay to listen to good music. I would definitely come again.

É um dos meus locais preferidos para passar, pedir uma bebida, e continuar a caminhada pelo Bairro Alto. A noite de Lisboa inclui, indiscutivelmente, este estabelecimento. Das vezes que o encontro, está sempre cheio, a abarrotar de pessoas. Mas o serviço, habituado à agitação nocturna, é célere e simpático. Aqui, costumo optar pela sangria, disponível por um preço simpático. É bastante boa e uma óptima forma de começar a noite. Melhor, só os amendoins a acompanhar a dita cuja. A verdade é que também já procurei este lugar para ver jogos da selecção portuguesa. É interessante encontrar adeptos de países diferentes, num multiculturalismo acessível que torna o match sempre mais interessante. Turista ou não, a Tasca do Chico é para todos.

Paragem obrigatório para um copo quando se anda de romaria em romaria pelo Bairro Alto.
Seja para local de encontro, reunião ou de simples passagem, é difícil estar lá um bocadinho à porta e não ver uma cara conhecida.
Por ter tanta procura torna-​se complicado ter um lugar sentado ou simplesmente pedir uma bebida em noites de muita afluência (quinta a sábado).
Mesmo com essas razões não conseguimos ficar longe.
Chouriço assado, imperial e vinho tinto são excelentes, o fado está sempre lá, espalhado pelo ambiente e afixado nas paredes.

Esta tasca é, quase sempre, um dos meus pontos de paragem nas minhas fugas ao Bairro Alto. O ambiente é simpático e a imperial relativamente é barata. As referências ao fado estão espalhadas por toda a parte, através de fotografias dos menos conhecidos aos mais consagrados fadistas. Na verdade já todos passaram por aqui. Esta é uma verdadeira referência do fado. É, por isso, natural encontrar por lá muitos turistas que aproveitam para visitar este espaço.
Na verdade ainda só tive a oportunidade de ouvir fado por lá uma vez. Foi ao final de tarde de uma Segunda-​feira. A tasca ainda estava vazia mas, mal começou a cantoria, encheu num instante!
Por norma é ao fim-​de-​semana que por aqui passo. Não há fado, mas a casa está igualmente cheia. Aproveito, sempre que possível, para me sentar e por a conversa em dia com os amigos que me acompanham e depois… a noite ganha sempre já outro rumo.

A tasca do Chico é um dos «bares» mais conhecidos no bairro alto por ser principalmente uma casa de fado. A tasca do Chico é na rua diário de notícias, no Bairro alto. É uma autêntica tasca onde podemos comer petiscos, bifanas, caldo verde… A comida é muito boa e gosto especialmente da parte em que somos nós que assamos o nosso chouriço numa loiça de barro na nossa própria mesa. Mas a tasca não é só conhecida por o seu atendimento e os seus petiscos, mas principalmente como uma casa de fado, canta a mãe, canta a avó, canta a filha e a neta, seja quem for pode participar nestas noites, onde se baixam as luzes, e silêncio que se vai cantar o fado. Porque o fado não se interrompe, os clientes ficam para ver o final daquela noite portuguesa. É uma casa cheia, adoro ouvir cantar o fado na tasca do Chico, imaginem o cenário de estar em pleno bairro alto, perto das 2h da manhã, e ouvir o verdadeiro fado. Daquelas pessoas nascidas e criadas no bairro, que têm amor á camisola e cantam o fado «vádio» de maneira tão divinal que nos aperta o coração.

Não há amigo internacional que tenha que não leve aqui. Para mim é paragem obrigatória. Sair de Lisboa sem ter ouvido Fado Vadio e sentir a voz arrepiante dos fadistas tocar o nosso íntimo será sempre uma experiência incompleta. Às segundas e quartas por lá toca-​se o fadinho.
A decoração foca-​se nas personalidades famosas que por lá já passaram e nos fadistas nacionais mais antigos e contemporâneos. Óptimo para mostrar como se faz uma chouriça assada e petiscar até mais não poder. Já assisti a vários jogos por lá e é um bom sítio para gritar com fervor seja qual for a cor da camisola que enverga.

O nome indica realmente o que é: uma verdadeira tasca! Aqui sento-​me com amigos num banco corrido de madeira e pedimos um jarro de barro de vinho e um chouriço ou morcela assados, por vezes também um queio e umas azeitonas. O fado é normalmente escutado nesta tasca ainda que aos dias do fim de semana seja frequentada por um publico diferente e a musica ambienta acaba também por se adaptar. Mas a minha preferência vai sem dúvida para as noites de segunda e quarta-​feira, os dias em que podemos ouvir fado vadio. Mas atenção que convem ir cedo se quisermos sentar, senão lugar em pé mais ou menos apertado acaba por haver sempre.
