La meilleure découverte du séjour… Yummy!

While the atmosphere is lovely and the service v good, the food is below par. The lamb chops are crunchy but have no meat and not tasty and the white baked fish was also a disappointment.

This is one of my go-to restaurants when I’m in Lisbon for work. While I always try something new, the mackerel tartar and the clams are delicious dishes that are usually on the menu. Fish and meats are always cooked well and have great flavors. The menu changes all the time but you can’t go wrong. House red wine is good and I think the prices are reasonable. For one person, try two dishes and wine which comes to roughly 30 euros. It definitely gets crowded so get there early if possible and bring cash as they do not take credit cards. Service is excellent and they always translate the daily menu to English.

Pros: 1. Excellent food & service 2. Everyone knows English Cons: 1. Its a taberna, so waiting time is min 1hr. 2. Do not have high chairs for babies, no food for babies. 3. Pricey 4. Cash only Overall: Recommended

Great restaurant! A bit more pricy than the typical Portugese restaurant but 1. Still cheap compared to simular restaurants 2. In a touristic area and therefor reasonably priced and VERYTASTY! Recommended.

Small, romantic restaurant with ambience. The staff are exceptionally kind. The food is creative, varied, fresh, and delightful. You’ll need a reservation or call ahead.

This place made me very happy. I had to wait about 20 minutes but in the sunshine that wasn’t an issue. The service was perfect, and I was so thankful for the way the waiter explained everything in such detail in English — as a solo diner it really made me feel welcome and relaxed. The food was delicious and simple but in a clever, scrumptious way. I almost felt transported to another world I was so relaxed and satisfied. Definitely worth a visit — intimate, relaxed, and just lovely.

Now I know everyone on Unilocal loves this place, and has given it 4 – 5 stars. That is the reason It was on the top of my list of places to visit. So I went here with really high expectations. We went around 7:00pm so the place was really empty, which was good, because judging from the reviews it tends to get really crowded. So upon entering we were greeted and given a seat, and they explained how they don’t have a set menu and it keeps changing every night. So they brought a huge black board and explained each and every dish on it. Since they have small servings similar to a tapas. We were recommended to order three dishes at least. But judging from the menu a lot of the items were being repeated. They mainly had white fish, cooked in different ways, some veggies and prawns. Which we later were told were finished. The prawns that is. Which was a little disappointing, because we were expecting really creative seafood dishes which would blow our mind. So a lil frustrated with the limited options, we went with the Mackerel, fried Cod(Portuguese special) and a mix veggie dish that came highly recommended. Five minutes later our server came back and informed us that the Mackerel had finished too so we had to pick again… a little annoyed we picked another white fish. And hoped for the best. Ten minutes later our food arrived. The veggies were the only thing that was really nice. The fried fish was more batter less fish and the other one was hardly a sliver. All in all It was a disappointing experience. Not one we were expecting considering we got there early. We were still hungry, so we asked our server what she would recommend for dessert, she said hands down their ‘chocolate cake’. And boy she wasn’t wrong. It was amazing! A pity it was the tiniest chocolate cake I’ve ever eaten but nonetheless the best thing about our meal. So I know everyone else has had a better experience at this place than me. Sadly this was not the 5 star place I was expecting it to be. The three stars it has gotten are definitely for the service and the tiny slice of heaven they call a chocolate cake.

What a great find! Thanks Unilocalers! You definitely got it right this time! We came in for lunch and had the curry fish. Absolutely amazing flavors! Took me an hour to eat it tho because there were a ton of little fish bones to carefully take out. The waitress is super nice and speaks great English. She said they have more options for dinner. Wish I could go back again for dinner. This was one of the highlights of my Lisbon trip.

Excellent Portuguese tapas found here! And people know about it, so be prepared to wait. Even though locals tend to eat dinner later, actually way later in the evening, it will still be difficult to grab a table here because the English speakers are queuing up for dinner during«regular dinner hours.» That being said, the food is worth the wait. As their menu is filled with delicious sounding tapas, we wanted to try every single one. Unfortunately about four of them will fill a party of two up pretty good. We ordered the mackerel tartare, the thinly sliced fried fish battered in rice flour with a side of hummus, scallops wrapped in bacon with wasabi mayo, oyster mushrooms with Portuguese sausage, and the chocolate mousse with grappa for dessert. Every dish was very good, albeit a little on the pricey side for Portugal. The bacon-wrapped scallops were unquestionably the best I’ve ever tasted… and you can rest assured that if bacon-wrapped scallops are on a menu I am going to have a difficult time not ordering them… so yeah… I’ve had a lot of bacon-wrapped scallops. Friendly and helpful service!

Fun spot for small plates. Kudos for the creativity but I found that most of the dishes sounded better on paper than they actually tasted. We had cool stuff like squid carbonara and mackerel tartare which were good but not exactly memorable. I liked that the waitress actually holds the huge chalkboard up while explaining the daily offerings.

What an amazing experience dining here was. The food, the service, the atmosphere– all top notch! As other reviews mention this is a very small and crowded restaurant and they do not take reservations, so it really is worth it to venture there earlier in the day to put your name down. My boyfriend and I decided to risk it and stop by around 9 and didn’t end up getting a table until 11. We didn’t mind and just went down the street for a couple glasses of wine, but if you’re not very flexible make sure to plan in advance. There are no menus and the dishes of the day are just written on a chalk board(a surprising amount considering how often they change up) You don’t have to worry about reading it though as your server will come by and explain each dish in detail to you. They recommend 3 dishes for 2 people but I’d say go for 4– not because 3 isn’t enough food, but because you’re going to want to try as much as possible! You may leave feeling a little overstuffed, but trust me it’s worth it! Our server was happy to walk me through the wines they offer as well and we opted for a slightly higher end but still reasonable bottle of red that was almost as delicious as the food. Since the dishes on offer change so often I’m not gonna bother explaining the quality of each dish, but to give an idea of what they had– we ordered between us: a ceviche of sorts with sweet potato chips, a suckling pig dish, tempura fried beans that were like fancy humongous fries, and roasted figs with goats cheese. All 4 were completely delicious(I did not try the suckling pig but my boyfriend spoke highly of it) and were about the size of a large tapas dish, or small entrée. I wouldn’t say they serve classic, traditional Portuguese food but a lot of the dishes were either more modern interpretations of classic dishes, or based on very Portuguese ingredients. So it hit the sweet spot of combining classic Portuguese cooking with more modern techniques and international ingredients and influence, something you do not get a lot of in Portugal! The atmosphere is so cozy there you completely forget about the outside world, and regardless of your taste in food, a dinner at Taberna da Rua das Flores is almost sure to please! I can’t even think of a complaint! As a bonus it was also by far the best service we got in Portugal. Tips: They only take cash! Do not come unprepared as the nearest atm is an uphill walk, and usually has a line. Oh and unlike almost all restaurants in Lisbon they do not charge for water, so you’ll leave unusually well hydrated!

This place does things right. They clearly are obsessive about the quality of their ingredients and they know how to put it all together. It is also not expensive, which together is why there is supposedly always a line after 6pm. We came at 10:30pm on a Saturday and we still had to wait about 40 minutes. The tomato and bail sauce that came with one of the white fishes(something like«Polvo»?) was amazing. The veal was great and the green sauce it came with was like a Mexican salsa. The clams were good but very simple. The chocolate cake was like a very thin brownie. The olive oil they serve with the bread is phenomenal.

This was our first stop after landing in Lisbon, and featured some bites I still reminisce about. DANGIT, WHERE’S THATTELEPORTERTOGETBACKTORUADASFLORES? Other reviews have discussed the waiting times common here. The wait might be well worth it, but another pro-tip: go at off times. Late lunch? Early dinner? You won’t have a queue. When we ate here there were 3 other tables occupied. Some delightful wine to start, as well as some teeny-tiny flavourful Portuguese olives, bread and olive oil. The staff speak English expertly, and talked us through the black board specials in detail. Things like stuffed zucchini flowers, pork belly deep fried with a concentrated orange sauce and fish cakes. We went for a fairly traditional Portuguese dish: a cold«salad» of flaked salt cod with pureed chickpeas and grated boiled egg. Sounds bizarre, tastes a delight. We also went for the«fish and chips: Portuguese style» which was perfectly presented and tempura-fried. White fish, rings of onion and even some fried cherry tomatoes… all resting atop potato chips(house made) with an exceptionally spicy sauce. A different riff on the same component parts I can get at my local chippy back in London. Perfect ambiance to while away some time with good friends, good wine, good food. Absolutely to be added to your list when you visit Lisbon. Unilocal note: no reservations here.

INCONTOURNABLE!

This was actually my most disappointing meal in Lisbon. Was great having a waitress speaking perfect English, and the main of Veal Ribs was quite nice, but the overall experience was outshone by all the other restaurants I visited in Lisbon(none of which were on Unilocal, sadly, and I’m not even sure some of them had names around Alfama!), and none of them cost half as much. Not helped by the restaurant being busy and being made to stand outside in the heat rather than being able to stand inside(where there was clearly room at the back where one guy was sitting around on cushions getting drunk) or leave my name to come back a short while later got me off to a bad start, and the waitress was stand-offish the rest of the meal. The bread, olive and oil was good, but an exorbitant(for Portugal) € 3 per person and the entrée quite disappointing. Given that together they managed to cost more than my Veal Ribs, I’d’ve walked out a lot happier if I’d just purchased two sets of Veal Ribs. Anyway, between all those and a beer, I know I went over the € 11 – 20 range, so I’m surprised to see this place sitting in the €€ category. Maybe prices have been going up recently with the place such a success.

Amazing Our favorite meal in Lisbon. We arrived around. 20 min after they opened and the place was already packed. We literally grabbed the last open table that could seat the 3 of us. We decided to share 3 – 4 things The clams with chorizo, the ceviche(house speciality) a pork dish and mushrooms . Everything was amazing the favorite of the table were the claims. Though at least 3 were unopened the broth was flavorful and full of nice sized bites of peppers, onions and chorizo. We all agreed that the plates, wine selection and service made this place a five star experience . Pro tip — come as soon as they open or drop your name and linger around outside until they are ready to seat you . Order the clams

Thanks Unilocal for making sure we have a killer meal even overseas! This place is a find! Tiny but powerful-it makes you feel like you are in Europe. We got there about 30 minutes before it closed and had to wait about 10 minutes. They have bread, olives, and their olive oil that they sell at the table. It was a tasty starter. The menu is on a chalkboard that they bring over and explain. Our waitress and it seemed like all the waitresses spoke great English. It’s a small plate restaurant and they suggested about 3 – 4 plates. We started with the mackerel ceviche. So good! Total Asian spin-but so good with the seaweed. We had a tomato and mozzarella salad with pine nuts. It was good but it was totally shown up by the veal ribs. Veal ribs you say? Yes. Say yes. Say yes in Portugese. Buy them out. They were crispy and juicy and came with peppercorns. I was in heaven. They are cash only. Which we learned halfway through the meal. So we almost didn’t get dessert which would have been a grievous mistake. It looked so plain but my oh my! It was not in my mouth. Dense, fudgey, and with cinnamon. I guess we’ll wash dishes if we can’t pay. Then the biggest surprise!!! We were under budget with our meal! We even had 3 glasses of wine. Honestly their food is so good I feel like we go the meal for free with their prices. That or I have magic powers.

Wow! This place was pretty impressive, definitely my top eating spot in Lisbon! We got there at around 19.15 on a Tuesday night and put our name in the book for a 45 – 60 min wait. We strolled down the hill to the Time Out Mercado da Ribiera and grabbed a beer from the do-it-yourself tap. By the time we got back we had burned off enough hill climbing calories to feel guilt free ordering to our hearts content. :) And we did! Everything is served tapas style and our waiter recommended we order around 5 dishes. The place is tiny and seating is very limited but the wait is soooo worth it. How I wish we had discovered this place in our first night! Food was delicious, the presentation was beautiful, the service flawless.

A truly phenomenal restaurant! You rock Babara! This is my favorite place in Lisboa and I found it by chance thanks to Unilocal!I was looking for seafood, looked it up. And came across this little gem. Came here around 4:30 pm. It’s in between late lunch and dinner. In between the lines out the door-oh so crazy time. So in between, there was no one in the place when I first arrived. But within twenty minutes, this place filled up. And was packed for the day! Ahh. Staffs — everyone is oh so nice, friendly and speak perfect english! Not that english speaking should be your prirority when exploring a foreign land but it helps immensely. And they are all so nice with amazing recommendations. Menu– each waiter bright this giant chalk board with the menu of the day. Each waiter know what’s in each dishes. They will explain it all. The chalk board isn’t that tiny either. It’s as big as me if not bigger. They have about 15 – 20 items on there. I think I tried at least 90% of the menu. And I still didn’t get enough! Drinks — wine wine and more wine. I love homemade wine. I often ask for house wine to get a taste of local wine. We had a good 2 – 3 bottles of their house red. It was nice, spicy and rich. Perfect to pair with all of their food. And also perfect for winter. yummmm! Now lets talk food. This is Portugal. They are more diverse than most places. No really! Think of all your favorite dishes from around the world, and add little tasty magical touches on it. And viola! They had about 20 items on the menu on my first visit here. I had 18! They are tapas style and most are small portion. Except the steak! That was big! Best — they have a poke/sashimi style dish with amazing fish, seaweeds and dried shrimps on it. It tasted wayyyyyyy better than it sounds. So refreshing, tasty and amazing. Steak frites — this was super rich and super taste. Steak is so lean and prepared right. Phở ca– this was my favorite. So good, I had it twice in one night. Think your regular phở but small. Add seafood, tomates and few portugese spices. Wow! It is amazing. So fresh, to tasty. So beyond great. Just a perfect amount of noodles and seafood. I also had a few meat, chicken piri piri, seafood dishes I can’t recall. But all were so wonderfully amazing. Paired it all with their homemade red wine! Ahhhh it was magic. So magical, I even had a dessert to prolong this amazing dining experience. Such a beautiful setting, beautiful food and great service! Ahhhh! It’s a must!!! A total must. Perfect combination of cute and deliciousness combined in a small and unassuming place. Definitely my favorite place in Lisboa!!! Definitely! Now all I need is another perfect meal here.

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I am a repeat eater. If I love it, I’ll be back. Sometimes in the same day. Sometimes in the same 2 – 3 days. As for this place? This place is incredible. So good we went back TWICE! We went right at the start of our trip for dinner and then on our last day, we went again for lunch. Had we been around for dinner, I would have gone back. Yes. It was that good. The service here is incredible. Even when they have a liiiiiiiiiiine out the door, they are kind and sweet and will bring you wine. Uhm. YES. AMAZING. And we waited 1.5 hours for dinner but it was so worth it! So yes, this means they don’t take reservations but it’s worth the wait– so don’t get impatient and wait it out! The menu changes almost daily depending on what they get at the market and all of it is good. ALLOFIT. I know, there’s a lot of caps in this reviews and lots of !!! but the whole experience of eating here was incredible. For dinner, we had the clams with bits of fatty bacon in a delicious broth. Their version of fish and chips and a side of vegetables. And dessert was their famous cheese, honey and almonds. All of this was incredible. I can’t repeat that enough! For lunch a few days later, we got the squid ink pasta with clams and the salmon which was perfectly pink in the center! Again. it was incredible. A bit of a tip, if you go early enough, like. 6.30 to 7PM, it’s pretty chill and you don’t need to wait. If you want dinner from 8 to 10PM, well, get ready to chill and take in the surrounds because everyone in Lisbon wants to eat here. OR you could do the lunch thing, again with a different daily lunch menu and no wait at all. Oh! And the bread, olives and oil. You get it immediately when you sit down– if you don’t touch it, you won’t be charged. So it’s up to you if you want it or not! I can’t say enough good things but I’ll leave you with this, this place was one of my Lisbon highlights and I’ll be back!
