This Fish and Chip shop was featured at 3rd place among best of the best f&c shops around town. The food is great and the crust is crunchy(which is sometimes a big deal to find), aioli sauce is just amazing. Chips some times not that perfect, but not bad either. Also, the fish burger is super awesome deal with that cost. It is very big, very tasty and juicy. The only drawback, there is no Credit option when you are paying with credit card.

I never really got the point of «high end» fish and chips shops. At the end of the day, you are still selling potatos and fish wrapped in flour and egg. Is it really worth paying extra? The Fish & Chip shop made the metro magazine best of list — which serves as a bit of a warning as what to expect, style over substance. They charge quite a bit for what they sell, although the chicken burger is actually suprisingly good value, with a giant breast fillet as the centrepiece. Unfortunately, by the time you are halfway through the bun is soggy and falling to pieces so it’s best just to give up and rip into the chicken. Everything is ‘good,’ but doesn’t really reach the heights the prices command. I’d recommend going to fat boy thai if you are in the area.

I’m a bit conflicted on this place. On the one hand, the whole ‘fancy’ fish & chips thing irks me in a way that I can’t really describe without going into a long speel about cultural misappropriation and capitalist hegemony, only some of which I actually understand. As for the place itself: still conflicted. The food is good for a fish and chip place, but the prices are too high to call yourself fish and chips. And the food is good, but it’s not super good. So hmm. But then just as I’m about to dismiss the place as translocated Mission Bay scum, they do something like a box of salt & pepper squid for $ 5, which is an excellent deal for a well cooked fishy snack. So I don’t know. I just don’t know.

Don’t believe the hype, yo. This place ain’t nothing special. What it is, is one of those uppity fish and chip shops that saw the value in branding themselves in a kind of ‘upmarket’ way and never really learned the lessons that every good fish and chip shop has to learn. Namely how to cook nice chips. There’s no two ways about it. The chips at this joint just aren’t up to scratch. Overpriced and under-salted. Was very disappointed upon my first visit, as they were ‘my local’ and it made me sad as all hell that ‘my local’ sucked so bad.

If you’ve got fish ‘n’ chips on the brain but don’t want to bring a soggy bag of oil and batter home from your local chippie, head to the Fish & Chip Shop in Sandringham. Serving up really good fish ‘n’ chips is their business — from sourcing delectable fresh fish straight from the market each day to thickly chopping up agria potatoes for their chips, the guys at this shop really know their stuff. As far as this sort of food goes, expect to pay a little bit more for what you’re getting, but also expect to see a really good quality product. Burgers range from $ 7.90 for a hamburger to $ 10 for a scotch fillet burger — much more expensive than your average chippie but totally worth it. Chips are cheap — $ 3 for a small scoop and $ 4.50 for more. Also, I’m allergic to vinegar, so I can’t have tartare sauce. When I told the owner that I couldn’t have tartare, he made up for it by giving me extra fish in the burger. Extra fish! Ka pai, Fish & Chip Shop.
