Nandos

With my student days behind me I can’t verify this to be 100% true, but back in my day this Nandos would offer a student special in the hours between their busy lunch and dinner time rush, $ 6 for a burger and fries — sale of the century. I remember trying Nandos chicken and fries for the first time. I remember thinking to myself that this was the first time in a while that I had tried something different. The marinade they use on their chicken and the seasoning they use on their fries made it difficult for me to put Nandos into any of my pre-​existing restaurant categories. It is really quite delicious, especially if you love chilli. With I think 4 different levels of chilli strength, you can decide for yourself how brave you are.

I LOVE chicken, ergo, I LOVE Nando’s! Nando’s is a chain perfectly pitched in between a fast food franchise and an actual restaurant — quick service, unfussy and unpretentious, cheap for the amount you get; and the food just puts a massive smile on my dial everytime! It’s all about Portugese flame-​grilled chicken, so usually the missus and I simply roll up our sleeves, order a whole chicken and go hard. Fifteen minutes later and it’s gone! Eating experiences are seldom more joyful. There’s a whole spectrum of hotness they offer — I usually go for the mild flavour, but if I’m cold I go the whole hog! The other thing everyone loves is the Periperi chips which are incredibly tasty.
The Queen Street branch is my favourite — such a great location and it’s perfectly sized to take a decent bunch of your mates, but everywhere has the same menu. Takapuna and Wairau Park are my other regulars where they offer a «chick and flick» deal with with discounted movie tickets at the local cinema.

Everyone loves Nando’s! The perfect hangover cure in my opinion. With so many options to choose from and as indecisive as I am it is always a unique form of torture heading to Nando’s. I usually end up getting the supremo chicken breast burger which has the most delicious marinated juicy chicken breast with salad and sauces of your choice.
They are well known for their delicious Peri Peri sauce and you can choose if you want lemon and herb, mild, hot or extra hot.
At a reasonable cheap price for the high quality of the food Nando’s is always sure to please.

Ahhhh Nandos… Whenever I’m in need of some comfort food on a cold winters day I always think of the peri peri fries at Nandos. It warms you from the inside. I’ve been to this particular Nandos a number of times for group lunches and I have to say I think they have some of the best service that I’ve had at any Nandos here. I used to go up to the counter with a long list of meal orders with different variations and they were always very patient with me and would offer to read out the order afterwards to make sure they got it right. The only thing that lets it down a little is that it can get quite busy and they don’t always have time to clean the tables.
