The corner of K Rd and Ponsonby Rd almost felt like a clash between cultures before the addition of Brazilian Bar, Ipanema. Perfectly placed between the posh and grungy, this dirty little club bring the two streets together as much as it brings Brazil and New Zealand together. It has the shabby appearance of K Rd with the prices of Ponsonby. Doors on saw horses as tables could be eccentrically funky but it just isn’t executed well enough, especially in conjunction with the rest of the bar. A few bright colours and flags, but not loud and garish enough. Hopefully it promise of great future music events will help it evolve. A club where you can dress up and continue into Ponsonby, or dress casualy and stroll into K Rd.

Groovy and tropical vibing this Bar and Restaurant is a definite must if you’re in the hip neighbourhood of Ponsonby. Get your hips swaying with the catchy bossa nova tunes as your bar men shake up a Caipirinha or Caipiroska cocktail for you. You can’t go wrong with a Brazilian national beverage made by Brazilians in their own bar can you. The service is fantastic, you can stand around the bar or sit on high stools looking out on a bustling city street and people watch as you imagine being in Rio De Janeiro. This Fabulous spot has taken over what used to be a New Orleans inspired and themed Bar and Restaurant and are doing wonderfully well. Ipanema also have a restaurant to one side of the bar with a great spread of Brazilian cuisine– I recommend trying the Feijoada Chic, which is a true authentic Brazilian stew, only for the pork lovers though. If your keen to get your groove happening on the dance floor, live music often happens in the dance lounge opposite the bar after nine or ten pm on Fridays and Saturdays. So check it out, you won’t be disappointed!
