The food might not be as good as Pica Pica; but the ambiance of this place is a hell of a lot better. Ate here a couple of times with friends and every time was a blast. Come to think of it, some of the best nights I had in Amsterdam started out at Pata Negra(here or in Utrechtsestraat). Expect youre typical tapas menu with usual suspects, nothing surprises but you won’t be dissappointed either. Especially in the summer, the terrace is buzling and lively.

Now, I’m not exaggerating when I say that I’ve had the best Spanish tapas ever in this place — and I’ve been to Spain before! That aside, the atmosphere was warm and homely, the staff was smiley and amicable and the food was the cherry on top! Oh, and don’t make my mistake — if they ask you if you want dessert, SAYYES!

I don’t how is the deal with Pata Negra from utrechtstraat but I definitely can recommend this one for many reasons. Tram 9 will leave u in front of it, so pretty easy to find it even it’s not in the centrum area. Good food consisting in tapas, the sizes can vary but from two choices you can get full stomach. I had fish soup(very good, medium size) and shrimps with garlic(gambas ajillo) and they came sizzling, iuuum. Many of the tapas include garlic and that my friend it’s heaven for me. I tried from my bf sepia, lamb and they were very good. We plan to comeback for more, especially the octopus. The service: great. Friendly waiters and if you have any question you can address them in dutch, english and my fav/spanish. The food comes very fast, that was nice. On the dessert area I def recommend the chocolate tart, simple and tasty as it should be. Also the crème brule was very good but with a very strong taste of lemon. Their terrace is bathed in warm rays of sun(if it’s a sunny day ofc) and even though they seem to have plenty of tables wouldn’t hurt a previous reservation, better safe than sorry :) Wifi pass: patanegra2

Been here a couple of times before for dinner on a previous trip maybe 2 years ago and we enjoyed the experience very much then. Decided to revisit for dinner and we were not disappointed. We sat at the bar(at our own request) and were quickly served drinks by the friendly barman. The tapas menus is not enormous but there is plenty to keep you interested. Siting at the bar we could see many of the dishes being cooked and that whetted our appetite for a couple of things. We ordered a few items and were given some guidance on exactly what we were ordering to ensure we were happy with our selections. In the end we ordered Pulpo(Octopus) — we’d had it previously and it is excellent — some Gambas and chorizo that was fried, we added some grilled asparagus to get the«greens» count up a bit. It was all very tasty and served quickly — portion sizes are good certainly the 4 dishes we ate were plenty for us as our dinner. Only minor comment is that they do like using salt in their cooking so if you have an issue with that then ask them to take it easy. Overall grump free and a very pleasant experience. 5 stars!

A solid tapas menu that doesn’t break the bank. The AMBIANCE of this restaurant is very pleasant with its half-indoors/half-outdoors scheme. Under the awning is pleasant, although a wee bit leaky when it rains. Basic, rustic, but nice. The FOOD is the star of the show. Solidly developed and forward Spanish flavors… lots of garlic, paprika, etc. Calamari were well-cooked…not rubbery. Also loved the champinones al ajilo. SERVICE was friendly and pleasant when we had it, although a bit slow to get started and at times. Our waiter was solid, just a bit over-subscribed. VALUE, however, was pretty good. Something like 70 Euro for a dinner for 4 with more tapas than we could eat and a drink or two a person. Definitely a tasty and affordable option with plenty of locals and not many tourists.

Our best dinner in Amsterdam! The place was packed with locals, so we knew it was going to be good. Ask for the English menu, if needed. We showed a little patience and it paid off with fantastic service from our waiter. Enrico gave us such a great experience! We ordered several tapas dishes(which come in stages as they are ready) and he continued to suggest others as the night progressed. Our favorites: Bacon-wrapped Dates, Oysters, Bread with Little Steaks, Flan, and Mojitos(best ever!). Won’t try again: Pata Negra Bread(soggy), Ham Croquettes(just OK), Iberico Salad(Fresh, but plain, and too much oil). We also loved the texture of the potatoes, but the sauce was quite spicy. Next time I’d do them again, sans sauce because they were cooked perfectly. Check out the menu on their websites.(There’s a Pata Negra and a Pata Negra 2.) The written menu is available at: A web version with photos(although not exhaustive) is at: All in all, our thanks to the waitstaff and the kitchen for a memorable night!
