Super cute café around the corner from the Air BnB we were staying at. The café sits across two floors with seating for around 30 or so. We were seated upstairs and after a steep climb up the stairs we found a really lovely area bathed in natural light from the multiple windows. Tons of respect for the staff who bring drinks up the steep staircase; food comes through a dumb waiter. The menu is short but varied enough for whatever you might be in the mood for. Their burger was highlighted as a standout and a couple of my friends ended up getting it(they said it was excellent) but I wanted some fries so opted for the«lighter» option of the grilled spicy chicken sandwich. The bread was crunchy and fresh and held up to the chicken, onion chutney and the melted Dutch cheese. Totally perfect for Sunday brunch. The fries came freshly fried with my preferred crunchy to soft ratio(more soft potato than crunch). Went well with the slightly sweet mayo but they also had Tabasco and ketchup which was my definite go-to. I washed it all down with a very refreshing mint tea. We were a group of 6 who got things ranging from burgers and sandwiches and eggs… everyone was super happy with their choices! We were eyeing other tables and their dishes while making our decision, everything looked really great! Definitely more of a local place, based on the clientele. Fresh ingredients, really solid dishes varying from healthy(salads and soups) to hearty. If I lived in Amsterdam I could definitely see myself spending weekends here catching up with friends!

Wow! Just wow. The place is neat, stylish and cosy, with a terrace over the canal, and a room upstairs to enjoy the sight. And the food! I took scrambled eggs with bacon and cheese, and it was delicious. The bacon was perfect crispy, and the egg was cooked exactly the way it should. My girlfriend took the Van Leeuwen burger and she let me finish it: turns out it’s the best burger i had in a long time. Juicy, tasty, it was so good i think we’ll come back in the evening so i can have a full burger just for myself. The fries where good too. I really recommend the place.

Didn’t have any of the food, so I’m really only reviewing their service, location, and drinks. The location was nice. Stopped by at the end of the day to have some drinks and enjoy the outdoor seating by the canal. The drinks were good and strong, and the atmosphere and staff were very chill. One thing to watch out for is the outdoor urinal that is nearby. Super convenient for the gents, and a bit off-putting for folks who don’t realize it’s there until it is in use!

Endroit décontracté. En soirée très fréquenté par les habitués. Menu simple mais délicieux, soupe-salades-sandwiches avec très bon café et la bière. Parfait pour déjeuner. Service très sympathique.

Cool vibe, great location, quick and friendly service, and a lovely terrace by the canal(though sadly not in the sun in the evening). Food is affordable and a good price to quality ratio, although I am giving it four stars because it wasn’t particularly noteworthy — just nice, simple fare. They also have a decent wine and beer selection and a very laid-back atmosphere that I really appreciated! Great place to wind down after work.

I stayed in the neighborhood for 4 days for vacation on air b&b and this place was my favorite to frequent. Great place for a view and a drink. If weather is nice then take your drink outside to have a nice view of the canal and the prices are very reasonable. The true reason for 5 stars is the breakfast/brunch food. Absolutely delicious.

It is my fav small bar in Amsterdam, it is right on the canal, nice vibe. Cute bartenders. Especially on Sunday nights they have live Jazz. It can get super busy, so come early!!!

Café van Leeuwen is a cool pub at de Keizersgracht! When the sun is shining, everybody want to get a great spot at the terrace next to the beautiful canal! Inside it is cozy and most of the times pretty crowded. They have different kind of beers(lovely white beers as well) and very trendy wine cooling system to keep the wines as a good as possible for their clients. Their bitterballen and other snacks are pretty good too! One tip: do you want to organize a big party? You can rent out the 2nd floor where you have your own bar and bartender!

I have to be honest, I haven’t eaten here. But if I’m in the mood for a beer after work and I want to steer clear of Rembrandtplein, this is a really incredible spot. They have a prime location for afternoon beer in the sun, with outdoor seating that is perfect for unwinding The staff are friendly, and beers are just 2.50, an awesome price in comparison to all the overpriced and touristy options just 2 blocks away. I think my record was 4 sightings in a 5 day work week. I love this place.

Super cute café-like pub. Upon first arriving here, I was little confused whether this was a café or a pub, but liked how they had the bar set up with a bunch of beers on tap, but also had coffee cups and glasses all over. Made it feel pretty cozy and quaint. My friend and I sat upstairs right by the window, so it was really good for people watching and we had a good time amusing ourselves by locking eyes with strangers and making them feel awkward. Service was attentive, but also hands off enough where we felt like they weren’t rushing us along. We definitely spent a good two hours just sipping beers here.

I came out to Café Van Leeuwen for a Unilocal community event. I thought it was a nice and relaxing pub to chill out for a drink. I definitely plan on coming back here with some friends. It’s small but has a cozy feel to it. The atmosphere was warm and the customer service was friendly. The pub has another level upstairs as well. The upper level is ideal for big groups or private parties. Café Van Leeuwen is right on the corner of Keizersgracht, which has a great mixture between the locals and travelers that stop through here for a warm and friendly drink.
