Paula’s Authentic Bavarian Cuisine

Paula’s is a quiet authentic Bavarian establishment hidden away in the heart of Ara Damansara, which was quite tricky for some of us to get there if not for our friend who lived in the area dishing out directions to the latecomers in between bites of food. We had the entire back of the restaurant to ourselves, owing the quietness to a Thursday night. A few other patrons sitting out front were mostly enjoying their draft beers.
We were extremely hungry by the time we got to Paula’s, so our table ended up with tasty, tasty baby ribs, two sausage platters, a giant plate of pork knuckles, potatoes in all possible cooking manner, with assortments of beer and a single glass of orange juice.
The ribs and sausage platter came first, we knew because we could smell it before it even left the kitchen door. The baby ribs (RM88.00) meat was delectably soft as the skin was crunchy, let’s just say our friend Jarrod had some scandalizing groans of appreciation as he ate them. I was of two minds about the sausage platter (RM86.00) I loved that it had variety (about 5 different types) but I did not love all the variety served. It’s safe to say our table had different favorites so this dish is probably best shared anyway. The pork knuckles (RM150 promo + beers + 2 side dishes) was the highlight, I think, a generous portion of sweet, melting meat with crispy skin. The complimenting sauce went very well with the knuckles. But my personal favorite for the night was perhaps the pan fried potatoes, generously sprinkled with chives and bacon bits. It was spudtacular. We had one, then ordered another plate, it was that good.
The orange juice though, was not nice. It felt fizzy and tasted out of place, like there was a dispute in my mouth. Pass the orange juice and straight to the draft, I’d say.
