This is a pleasant modern/dining take on Mexican in Kuala Lumpur’s K Avenue mall. The dining area is nicely decorated with a modern theme and Latin music plays. The food and drinks are well done for the most part. I recommend the classic margarita for a drink. For dinner, we tried the carne asada platter. Although not presented in a traditional style, the meat was cooked and spiced well. The rice and beans were a bit plain. However, the green enchilada sauce was superb. This makes me think the enchilada entrée would be worth trying. In addition, we tried the chips with salsa and chili con carne. I don’t recommend the salsa, as it wasn’t spiced well and came off a bit bland. The chili had a very meaty flavor, so try it if that’s what you’re going for. Nevertheless, the chips themselves were excellent — very thin, light, and crispy. The tougher part appears to be finding the best sauce for them. Overall, this is a quality restaurant worth trying if you’re in the mood for Mexican. On a side note, this restaurant is combined with a dim sum restaurant that has more of an American diner look. Based on our observations, you can sit on either side and order either kind of food.

I absolutely love love love the fish taco. I would come back just for that alone– ask for less sauce as they can sometimes be a bit heavy handed on the slaw. The jalapeño poppers were too salty for my liking but overall great Mexican/tex-mex food. Ambiance was warm and inviting and totally unpretentious. This place serves alcoholic beverages and is pork free.

As the name suggests, Fresca offers authentic Mexican fare and Tex-Mex cuisine. Spacious, unfussy and far from snotty, the restaurant is outffited with rustic bricks and wooden furniture. Standout staples include the comforting quesadillas, fajitas and burritos all served in tapas-style share plates. Make sure to try their Margaritas, served frozen or on the rocks. We especially love the ‘Electric Blue Margarita’ which uses Tequila Reserva 1800 Anejo.

Fresca took a few tries but has won me over in the end. It’s concept of Mexican food in the same spot as a dim sum restaurant was hard to understand, but when I thought about it harder… I love tacos AND dumplings! So why not?! I’m haven’t tried the dim sum yet because I have my favorite places already. Mexican on the other hand, is hard to come by in KL these days and good Mexican food is almost impossible to find. This place is not the traditional Mexican I am used to in the USA but their contemporary take on it is delicious. I really like all of their tacos. The chicken taco is a bit special. It is drizzled in a nice white sauce that requires a fork but is worth it. The prawn taco is also notable. It is a bit on the saucy side, but I think it is done well and I get them every time I go. Mad props to the guy who had the cahones to do dim sum and Mexican in the same place. It reminds me of some of the fusion concepts I have run across back home in NYC.
