When in Kyoto, do as the locals do. I came here and met up with my colleague who lives in the city. We wanted to go to a really local spot, and here is where we were brought. I’m not sure I would have found this place on my own. It was a lovely little converted house into a restaurant. Really happy and lively place. We ordered the Obanzai, which acording to the Internet is «a traditional style of Japanese cuisine native to Kyoto. In order for food to be considered obanzai, at least half of its ingredients must be produced or processed in Kyoto. Ingredients in obanzai cooking must also be in season. Obanzai cooking heavily relies on vegetables and seafood, prepared simply.» And that’s exactly what it was, a mix of veggies and meats and seafood to try a little bit of everything. I din’t love everything but I loved trying everything, especially something so local to Kyoto. Who knew there was a characteristic of food like this? Not I, but happy I got to try it. Staff was friendly although they didn’t speak a lot of English and the price was solid. A sport worth going to for sure if you are in Kyoto.
