Recomendamos fortemente!

Reading a few detailed bad reviews on Unilocal such as Josh T’s almost made me scared that this meal would disappoint. However it was truly nothing short of perfect. There was not a single dish that fell short from exquisite. Be sure to make reservations ahead of time! II Pirata is such a wonderful gem that’s off the main road of Vernazza and is in fact one of my top best meals in Italy! We had the seafood platter, spaghetti with seafood, lasagna bolognese, eggplant parm, mushroom risotto, and their 3 most popular desserts which were the cannoli ricotta, panna cotta with fruits, and tiramisu. Everything was fantastic and I think we were lucky we did an absolute great job on picking all the right dishes. Each four people in my group had different order on what was their favorite dishes, so if you come with four people I would only highly recommending getting exactly what we ordered! The eggplant parm and lasagna is totally different from what we usually get in NYC… The lasagna looks sloppy and flat but the sauce and lasagne pasta itself just melts in your mouth and tasted superb! As well as the eggplant parm; it was not breaded at all like NYC’s version which truly let the eggplant taste shine. I’m not even a fan of ricotta cheese, but it was not a strong ricotta taste in the lasagna or cannoli, which was the best cannoli I’ve ever had in my life by the way! I over heard the owner saying he selectively picks his own ricotta all the time around Italy which is not easy. I cannot hence how much we enjoyed our meal and that it was absolutely one of the best Italian food ever!

The charming Sicilian brothers, Gianluca and Massimo, serve the most amazing pastries and espresso at their café/bar, Il Pirata delle Cinque Terre! Il Pirata delle Cinque Terre is located uphill from the train station, next to the Piazza Fontana Vecchia and post office. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served at the café. During our visit we ordered espressos and the best cannoli I have ever had! The cannoli are handmade to order and are filled with the lightest and creamiest ricotta cheese. I would recommend sharing a cannoli between two people since this pastry is so massive.(You can always order seconds or try another pastry if one isn’t enough for two people!) TIP: cash only!!! Prices are extremely reasonable and free WIFI is available if you want to catch up on your emails. Will definitely return to Il Pirata delle Cinque Terre next time we visit Vernazza.

Best pesto gnocchi I’ve had in my life. Originally I dropped by here on my first day but they were not serving lunch anymore and dinner was cancelled for that night so I came back the next day for lunch and I’m so glad I did. There was no wait and the food came out quick. I’m pretty sure I inhaled the gnocchi after I had my first bite because before I knew it, my plate was empty. Now, I hope to find gnocchi that is just as good this back home.

Massimo is fantastic! He is very warm and welcoming to his guests. We stopped here on three out of three days in Vernazza. Twice for breakfast and once for dinner. Best food we are in all of Cinque Terra. The croissant with ricotta filling was my favorite but the ricotta cannolli is quite good also. Dinner is also quite good, I ordered the gnocchi pesto and my wife the Lasagna bolognese– both of which Wed recommend. The owner wants to give his diners the real Italian experience and seems well travelled himself. He educates as well as entertains. Would be a shame not to stop by this place. Free Wi-Fi too.

Place sells out fast and it’s because of their delicious dishes and great service. One REALLY important tip: go as soon as you can and make a reservation. Don’t wait for dinner time, do it ASAP. Also go there for breakfast, you will not regret it.

I was expecting a little more love from this place after reading all the glowing reviews. We went in for breakfast and picked up a menu only for the owner to come out and say«That’s dinner, we don’t do breakfast menus in Italy! You’re in Italy we eat our food!» Okay I get it, he’s a pirate, but if you don’t have breakfast menus then perhaps don’t leave the menus in plain view during breakfast hours next to the register. Anyway. Had a cream croissant which was nice but we had just had a pastry binge at an awesome place down the road so probably weren’t as enthusiastic about it as we should have been. Tried to pick up the wifi and were told it wouldn’t work if it wasn’t showing up on the phone and it is an Apple problem? This is the third place in Italy we went where free wifi was promised and an excuse given when it wouldn’t deliver. I’m not a tech addict but would have liked to have it if it was available. Little disappointed but would have given it a second chance it we had stayed closer by.

They only take cash. May be accepting credit cards in 2016. They have free wifi! Came here early in the day and ordered the panna cotta. It was the most beautiful panna cotta I’ve ever had and it tasted equally delicious. The owner was so friendly and funny. I felt so welcomed and really wanted to spend more time talking to him. We were joking with each other by the time I finished my dessert snack. Later that day, I went to the laundry mat next door to the restaurant and met the coolest people ever from Hawaii. There was a long wait to use the washers and dryers. Luckily, While my clothes were in the dryer, my new Hawaiian friends invited me to eat dinner with them next door. They ate at this restaurant daily during their visit in Vernazza and did the same thing during their last trip here 5 years ago. They loved it so much, they came back! We ordered the seafood appetizer and an eggplant salad. Not being a huge fan of eggplant, I thought it was ok. My friends loved it. The seafood appetizer was very good. It was large enough for 4 people and it was a good mix of squid, clams, mussels, prawns, and squid. I ordered the lasagna and it was the best lasagna I’ve had in all of cinque terre.(I ate it in every village). My friends ordered the pesto gnocchi, seafood spaghetti, and another eggplant dish. They loved it all. I tried the pesto gnocchi and kind of regretted not getting it or the pesto lasagna. The pesto was flavorful but not too rich. For dessert, I ordered the strawberry and chocolate panna cotta. They also offered a caramel panna cotta. I love it, of course! My friends ordered a cannoli. The filling was light and so good. I usually dislike the fillings here in America because they leave an oily feeling in my mouth, but this was almost like whipped cream but better. At the end of our meal, the owner recommended a soda for us to try. It was drinkable but tastes a little like cough syrup. It was fun to try though. I highly recommend this place. This night was my favorite night of my vacation. Met some amazing people, are some delicious food, and got clean clothes! Win!

If you are not looking for authentic regional cuisine then this should be your go to place in Vernazza. While it doesn’t serve the regional specialties this place is truly delightful. It’s set back above the train station and the tables overlook the parking lot rather than the sea, but this place puts together some delicious Italian food. It’s run by Sicilians and the food reflects that: don’t miss out on the Italian Ice or the Canoilis. If you’re looking for breakfast this is also a great option. We ate here several times while in the Cinque Terre and were not disappointed. The risotto was decadent and the past was fresh. The sauces were vibrant and flavorful across the board. The delightful owner is friendly and talkative. He adds to the overall experience.

Unfortunately this is not a good choice. It’s good but too expensive for what it is, the waitress was extremely rude and the chef kinda forces us to choose what he want to cook.

I am still trying to figure out how this place got such good reviews. It looks difficult to find a descent place in Vernazza, but that’s not a reason. I don’t know where to start: the owner charges you more if you drink but don’t eat, his waitresses don’t say a word neither hello goodbye or anything even when you talk to her, the bolognese lasagna that he forces you to order is unique: the only lasagna 0,5 cm high, 2 € for tap water bottle dressed as a mineral water bottle. If you want a nice place to eat, look in Corniglia that seems less touristy.

A nice hideout with a friendly atmosphere. Not forgetting the best lasagne that’s the star of the restaurant. Owner is very friendly and have a weird sense of Italian humor :) If you are visiting Cinque Terre region, you have to pop by over here!

No exaggerations here, best food I had in Italy! We ended up ordering an extra entrée, dessert, two appetizers and seriously thought about re-ordering all of our food for a second round. Highly recommend the eggplant parmesan and anchovy appetizer. The owner was really nice, he loves to entertain the guests so get ready for some cheesy jokes to come your way. I didn’t appreciate the comment about him having 1 wife for summer and 1 wife for winter(who are respectively blonde and brunette) but I guess that’s his humor. Anyway, if you are in Vernaza, YOUMUSTEATHERE.

Amazing homemade pastries that are nothing short of delicious. The brothers owning the shop are wonderful and very passionate about Italian breakfast(no eggs!!). Overall the coffee was yummy, the food was the best breakfast we’ve had in Italy and the service is the cherry on top! Can’t wait to come back to try more of their amazing food!

I can understand why so many people who stop by in Vernazza end up in Il Pirata for breakfast. I’ll admit that I’ve read some pretty bad reviews about the owners and how they brag about their food and think they are all that and I was pretty adamant about not supporting them. However before our hike, they were just so conveniently located right across the street from where we stayed so my boyfriend dragged me in. The owner immediately greeted us, told us about his pastries and gave us wonderful suggestions. We ended up getting the croissant with fruit, croissant with cream, cappuccinos and a blood orange juice(after seeing several others popping in just for it — it must be good right?). Well the blood orange juice was freshly squeezed and soooo amazing! Everything we ordered was very, very good! The cappuccinos were probably the best I’ve had in Italy. The pastries were definitely good but croissants from Paris have a very special place in my heart so I can’t say that I loved his croissants, just that they were better than any croissant from America. The owner also took the time to walk to each table to talk to everybody to make them feel welcomed to his shop. He is very prideful about his food so I can see why other patrons may think him as snotty, but relax and joke around with him and you’ll see his charm.

You’ll have a hard time finding an «American» breakfast in cinque terre but il Pirata is probably the best bites you’ll find before noon. Talk to the friendly owner and he will kindly just start bringing you everything he thinks you should try. And trust me, you won’t be disappointed. The pastries and bruschetta will melt in your mouth. Wash it down with an americano. Just kick back and relax and enjoy the FREEWIFI. A fantastic place to sit and explore your next stops on Unilocal

Great restaurant in Vernazza! Came here twice. Once for breakfast and once for dinner. Service is amazing and the owner if very friendly to everybody. Remember it’s the opposite direction of going into the main strip of vernazza when getting off at the train station. They have extraordinary pastries and it was the best cappuccino I had my whole time in Italy. For Dinner, I had the pesto lasagna spaghetti and a house white wine. Contrary to the stacked lasagna– the lasagna is flat but I liked it very much! The pesto sauce is amazing and lasagna cooked perfectly. reservations recommended.

The food is amazing plus they have FREEWIFI. The owners are twin brothers who speak great English and are passionate about their cooking. One of the brothers loves to make desserts and pastries — I’ve honestly never met someone so passionate about his trade. We had: STARTER: the Pirate’s mixed seafood ENTREES: 1) Tortellini with ham 2) risotto with mushrooms DESSERTS: 1) Fantasy fruit with vanilla ice cream 2) cannoli with caramel Everything was delicious. They only take cash. They have bad jokes but they remember their repeat tourists very well.
