After spending some days in Venice with a hotel along the canals– we knew a much needed rest from the hustle and bustle was needed. We took a cruise out of the Venice port and after returning checked into the Quid hotel a little further out and closer to the airport. Flight the next morning would be departing at 7AM so finding a water taxi and all the walking that early seemed a little inconvenient if we’d stay by the grand canal. Upon checking in that Friday morning, we took a bus to Venice to further explore(bus stop was like a 3 minute walk to the main road and 20 minutes from Venice) We also arranged for airport shuttle in the morning that would take us to the airport at 5AM(10 – 15 minute ride) Overall, it was super convenient. Nice rooms– all renovated and free wifi. A few issues noted– bathroom floods a little when showering. Not a huge deal since I usually put a smaller towel down anyway to soak it up, but there’s no way around it. My second gripe was the air– conditioning. The thermostat in the room would not work and it was hot. I tried calling the front desk but there was absolutely no way to communicate– and nothing indicating how to do so on the phone. I was already in pajamas and did not want to make my way all the way downstairs so I just opened the windows which helped but then again did not shelter us from the noise. The next day I brought it up to the front desk staff who told me the windows were open which is why the AC wouldn’t work. My room key was plugged in and my windows were closed before I decided to open them because it was so hot but whatever. It was a great option nonetheless to stay there since it all turned out to be so convenient.

Great hotel except for one thing: my bathroom flooded. After 5 minutes into my shower I noticed half the bathroom had flooded and had to stop midway through to clean it up before it got on the carpet outside the bathroom. The hotel has nice stand up showers with very high water pressure, but the water collects so quickly I had to turn the water down. They have a wonderful selection of food for room service and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. Room has a good size TV, but has only one English Channel(BBC World News). I stayed in this hotel to be closer to the airport so I wouldn’t have to ride the water bus in the morning from Venice island. They have a shuttle that will take you to and from the airport for € 6 with a scheduled time. Most of the staff are great, there was just one or two that didn’t seem as friendly as the others. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at this hotel and would definitely recommend it.

Ok, so my review is going to sound critical, but I really tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt. I can only compare it to previous hotel experiences of the same type or in the same area. First impressions is that this place is gorgeous. It’s brand new, and the modern architecture reflects that. Paneled glass, stacked stone, faux wood accents all remind me of familiar designs back home in the states. Getting into the room was tricky at first. The door has one of those buzzing electronic locking system known as «normally closed» or NC that uses some type of RFID card. All the other hotels that use card systems, the scanner is on the door. Upon first looking at the door, there is only the handle and a manual lock. The scanner is on the wall next to the door. Tap your card on it and it unlocks the door. But do it quickly because it only does it for ¼ of a second. Once you hear the door buzz, just push the door open, no need to turn the handle. The lock on the inside is confusing also. Try to turn the lock, and it just keeps spinning and spinning. i never knew which way or position meant it was locked. The cards were deactivated for our entire group before we checked out(the next day) and 15 rooms had to bring their cards down to the front desk to reactivate. The room itself was gorgeous. Had a safe, king bed with left and right side tables with outlets and reading lights, sofa, empty fridge with clear glass door(like a wine chiller), and long desk with another outlet. Now on to the bathroom… looks great at first but then you notice a few odd things. There is a downward facing«rain» shower head which feels great. Also there is a handheld shower wand with acceptable reach. BUT, the shower drain is all the way on the other side of the shower by the entrance. It doesn’t seem like a big deal at first until you take a shower. Now I’m not a big person, 5′ 6″ 170 lbs and its not I flail my arms all over the place, but every time I took a shower, the main bathroom area flooded. It might have had something to do with the hotel not putting in a shower door! I don’t know if its because I was spoiled with having an enclosed shower area, but it seemed like they didn’t finish making the shower! Water leaked out past the 4 inch shower step and made a complete mess on the floor. I had to mop it up with the bath towels several times. Also, the bathroom door completely obstructs the butt washer(I don’t know the actual name, but it’s not a bidet) and also gets in the way of the toilet. Why they couldn’t install the door a different way or put in a sliding door baffles me. Check out my pics to see how stupid it looks. There is a small nub on the floor that stops the door from hitting the butt washer and breaking it into little pieces, adding to the wet mess already on the floor. Be careful not to stub your toe on the nub. It just sticks out. They could have used a door stopper that fits by the hinges, but they want to make your experience as painful as possible. Thermostat — forget about it. It doesn’t work. At least ours didn’t. Just open the windows. Breakfast was mediocre. They have free continental breakfast with the usual pastries, scrambled eggs, small wieners, bacon, cereal, juice, coffee machine, yogurt, etc. the bacon looked uncooked and more like lightly seared ham and was very salty. I tried to get some water to transfer to my water bottle for the day for use while walking around the city, but the staff got mad and said if I wanted to do that they would charge me.(Thats right, for water!) I haven’t heard of that before, but wasn’t surprised since the city charges to use their bathrooms too. I can’t believe people just don’t void and defecate all over since its free. But that’s another story. We also had dinner here, pasta was good, but the pork was dry, and the veal was salty. I’ve come to the conclusion that Italians just can’t cook meat. The two times I’ve ordered filet mignon from different restaurants, I’ve asked for medium well and well done. Both times I had to send it back because I got them rare. It’s like they cook it till it looks nice on the outside and that’s it. Looks great at first but then you cut into it and the blood leaks out and creates a small pool of blood on the plate. Obviously they don’t know anything other than rare. Now I’m going to veer off topic for a sec, but I must warn to not order anything that’s beef, chicken, or pork. Also, you would think Italian s can make some great pizza since every other store is a pizzeria. But most are plain and non original! I miss pepperoni. They have no clue what pepperoni is other than a pepper, and they stick spicy salami on a marguerita pizza and call it a day. It’s not the same, don’t fall for it! I’m gonna stop for now as I could go on and on. Final conclusions of the hotel. It’s great looking, staff is rude, they can’t cook, thermostat doesn’t work, bathroom is horribly designed.

We really enjoyed staying in Best Western Quid hotel. Because of the expensive hotels in Venice we booked this hotel in Mestre but you can take a bus which is close to the hotel and in 20 Min you are in Venice. The airport transfer was great didn’t have to wait for a taxi. The breakfast was amazing, great money saver. Very modern, sharp looking. Best WiFi I had during our European trip.
