Do not hesitate. Eat here!!! Then like us dislike anyone who rated less than 5 stars. From start to finish every dish was immeasurably impressive. The pizza, gnocchi, risotto and chocolate tiramisu were all top notch. The staff was both friendly and funny, it gave a very welcomed at home type feel. The casual ambiance and off the beaten tourist path adds to its perfection. Enjoy this gem!

The food was average and the house wine(though inexpensive) was not good. The wine was freezing cold and tasted a bit carbonated. Strange. 7 € for 0.5 liters is a good price if all you care about is having some alcohol. We ordered the 15 € pre fixe meal and pasta with bacon/chilis and liver with spinach. The pasta was nothing special. The noodles were penne. The sauce was tomato, but not spicy although I clearly saw the chili oil. There was maybe 5 pieces of small bacon it it. The liver was very tough and the spinach was not recognizable. It looked like moss and what I imagine moss to taste like. We also ordered the margherita pizza and it was missing basil. I think they put basil spices on it but it disappeared into the cheese. You can’t taste any of the basil flavor either. The crust was tasty; thin but chewy with crispy edges. The service was good. The servers were friendly and the place was brightly lit and had a good vibe.

A quaint pizza parlour tucked away in the ghetto area of Venice. Food is cooked right in front of you — we had the best pizza we have had in Venice!

Great place to get a very good meal and get away from the hustle and bustle of Venice tourist areas. The pizza was delicious, very simple with very good quality ingredients. The spaghetti bolognese was fabulous too. Inexpensive, simple and not crowded.

THANKYOU Unilocal! My boyfriend and I were yearning for a GOOD pizza out of the tourist spots and this was PERFECT. Local, cosy, just the right amount of grub(expect a LOCAL pizzeria, not a posh one). And the pizzas. Oh my the pizzas. Great selection of relatively simple pizzas with 1 or 2 extra ingredients — I went for ricotta and spinach and the toppings were generous without being overpowering. And you know what else was nice? I didn’t feel utterly stuffed afterwards. Let’s also give kudos to the staff. Helpful and always smiling — that as well was a nice change from the tourist places.

Good pizza in a neighborhood environment. And the owner Joseph couldn’t be any friendlier!

We went there twice. The first time, we dined here, and it was a mistake: service is not super friendly, and waiters make you feel unwelcome, «eat and leave» style. Not worth a € 2 per head cover charge. But the second time, we took 2 pizzas to go, and it was clearly the right move. Pizzas here are average-priced(€ 8 – 12), made to order with good ingredients(the pizza maker is super nice and you can see him make the pizzas in the middle of the restaurant) and delicious at the end. So take your pizzas with you and find a quiet spot near the canal — that’s the best way to enjoy Al Faro!

Not very impressed by this place. Chose it based on the Unilocal reviews, and I was disappointed. We ordered a pizza and a salad to share amongst two people. The pizza was dry and nothing to write home about. They did certainly have a large menu with lots of choices but I guess I must have chosen the wrong things. The salad was even more unremarkable. It was just some plain iceberg lettuce that wasn’t very fresh around the edges. Topped with a small amount of avocado tomato and cheese. There is a 2 euro per person cover charge which seems to be the norm here but I was not impressed at all with the service either. No one was very friendly. I would most definitely not return.

Best no frills meal in Venice. It’s on a side street with many locals eating. The waiters have a great sense of humor and the food was delicious. To top it all off there was an Italian man playing music as we are. This is the real Venetian experience. Will definitely recommend and return.

Had some pizza and wine here. Even though the pizza guy was on break it was still pretty tasty.

A wonderful restaurant away from all the touristy areas! There’s a lot of outdoor seating, and the server had a sense of humor. The menu is very extensive and well-priced, but if you really want to maximize your money and have a big appetite, I definitely suggest the 10 or 15euro 3-course menu. Each one has about five options for the 3-courses. You start with a pasta, then a variety of options for the second, and end with a vegetable side. The first pasta dish is substantial enough alone to fill you up so the portions are large! I had the bacon gnocchi(with an alarmingly bright yellow sauce, but really good nonetheless), fried calamari with some vegetables(no sauce to accompany it except lemon juice — kind of used to having some sort of dip, but hey, it’s healthier right?), and the mixed salad(standard and plain, but by this point we appreciated the light and healthy end to the meal). Service was pretty good too. When in Venice, you should also try the Spritz! They serve it here with prosecco, and it was bubbly and refreshing!

Had a delicious dinner there tonight. We started with a spritz and then some house red. Both very good options. My primi was penne arribiatta. It was a great starter. A right sized portion of penne with a great spicy tomato sauce. Not overpowering with just the right amount of heat. Highly recommended! We all had Pizza’s as our main dish and each was very good thin crust pizza with a great tomato sauce base and plenty of toppings. The service was very good and friendly.

AMAZING!!! We came here last night after we we got back from the airport based on the amazing reviews. We took the 5.2 vaporetto which brought us a couple of minutes away from this place. Even though it was late, the owner greeted us quickly and have us a table. My husband had the eggplant and pork pizza which he was delighted with(and wasn’t sure it would taste good when he ordered it) and I had the Fresca Pizza(which is basically tomato sauce, basil, mozarella cheese and fresh tomatoes) which was AMAZING! We had the house red wine which was chilled, delicious and inexpensive. To top it all off, we had the Nutella Pie(it had another name but that is what it looked like) which was INCREDIBLE. All for less than 25 euros(we had an entire liter of their house red wine, mind you). Please do not hesitate to come here. You will not be disappointed!!! We liked it so much, we came back today after we had a horrible experience at another restaurant next to the canal and loved this place all over again!

They’re definitely above average in terms of the pizzas, and not so much about the pasta dishes. My husband had the set menu with the pasta dish(and roast beef) — the pasta was below average although the beef was heaps better than the pasta. My pizza was great though, costs less than 10 Euros and filling.

Al Faro is a simple and honest Pizzeria/Restaurant inside the borders of the Jewish Ghetto in Cannaregio. We so enjoyed going here that we went back the next night, and our daughter was very disappointed when we didn’t return for a 3rd night!(hey, you have to mix it up right?) In fact, we came up with our own silly slogan for them: «Once you eat at Al Faro, you’ll be coming back tomorrow!» The food is reasonably priced for Venice and the service friendly and efficient even when they fill up. The menu is varied with something for everyone and the wait staff is happy to help with suggestions. The house wine is cheap and cheerful, the cocktails well mixed, and all the dishes we tried were flavorful and filling. It’s especially good for families because its casual, and each night we went each waiter would take time to talk to our daughter and make her smile whenever they came to the table. Concerning the interior style, it’s pizzeria up front, and restaurant in back. Both rooms are brightly lit though, so if you’re looking for a romantic vibe for a big date, or you have sensitive eyes in general, this could be an issue for you. All in all I would definitely recommend you try them out after a nice long day of touring Venice!

Just located south of the Jewish ghetto. Awesome environment with great outdoor seating. Great deal on house wine — 10 € for 1L. As far as the food, they have an extensive menu in addition to pizza. Their pizza is good, not the best I had. Toppings were fresh, and service was prompt. I got the one with prosciutto and rucola on too and was very satisfied. Prices are very reasonable. If you’re looking for pizza and want to get away from the tourist invasion near Piazza San Marco this is definitely a good spot.

After a long day lost in the streets of Venice, finding this gem was just what we needed! Great service, cozy atmosphere and a super affordable and delicious tasting menu– cheaper than most single entrees! Even the house wine was fabulous– we would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Venice!

Definitely above average. Probably one of the better pizzerias I’ve gone to in Italy. Probably some of the best service I’ve ever gotten here so far

Fantastic food for an incredible price in Venice. A little off the beaten path in the original Ghetto neighborhood of Venice. Extremely wonderful service. Went with my family for Christmas Eve dinner. My little sister spoke Italian and bantered with the wait staff, but we would have gotten by fine with our English. Best fresh bread I’ve had in any restaurant.
