Trinita del Monte was the worst restaurant experience of my time in Rome. In summary the food was very mediocre and the service was terrible. There are many better options to get better food and service at a lower price. First the service was terrible. I went with my family and they took over one hour to bring out one course when the restaurant was almost empty. They completely forgot my brother’s meal and when we mentioned it, they said, «tell me what he ordered and we can bring it out in two minutes.» Why did it take so long to bring our food in the first place? After we waited forever for the food, when it finally came, it was average at best. I took the waiter’s recommendation and ordered the risotto under the«chef’s special» pasta section and it was very basic and lacked flavor. I had better pasta at a tourist trap restaurant near the Vatican for way less $ for lunch. The pesto salad was also very basic, iceberg lettuce with a little chopped tomato and a teaspoon of pesto sauce. My sister’s seafood dish was pretty good, but at least half the meals were terrible given the price. The most memorable moment(and the reason for the review) was when we noticed they were cheating us on the bill. We ate after a long day walking and were probably a little dehydrated. They brought us bottled still water and we ended up going through at least 4 bottles during the meal. When they brought the second bottle, my brother noticed the bottle was wet on the outside as the waiter brought it to the table. Just out of curiosity, he tore a corner of the label and then noticed that the third and fourth bottle was the same bottle that had been refilled with water. I don’t mind tap water, so we didn’t say anything(we had never specified that we wanted mineral water). When the bill came, we saw they charged us for every bottle of «mineral water» even though they were refilling it with tap water. When confronted, they promised they hadn’t refilled the bottle and refused to remove the charge for the extra water. There are so many great options in Rome. Don’t make he mistake of going here even though the location is convenient and the waiters speak good English.

The seafood tagliolini(e frutti de mare) was the best! It’s been more than two years already(2014) and I still dream of that dish… Our server was quite hospitable and fluent in English. The restaurant’s ambience was very nice, too. A must try when in Rome!

Stumbled upon this place at the top of the Spanish steps… be sure to find your way there when you are in Roma! The service was friendly, the wine very good, and the food fantastic! Plus, sitting outside afforded you a great view of the church and all the people heading to and from the Spanish steps. Highly recommend!
