Tre Scalini

So, it’s difficult to say the food is great but the service is rather snooty. I felt like I was eating in a tourist joint but it’s right on the Piazza and I ordered the Cacio e Pepe and it was awesome. Everything was delicious down to the Tartufo and the view. The problem was the waiter. He clearly didn’t like interacting with American tourist women. He was very rude and even pushed my Aunt while getting her plates. Now, it is in a touristic place and the waiter did advise me on etiquette which I was thankful but he didn’t extend the effort and grace toward me to my eating companions. I am sure they broke a few rules but this was one of the first times for them eating in a place outside of the States. They should extend an understanding or at least communicate when these unsaid rules are broken. That being said, I saw several other people who were by Italian standards obnoxious and they were treated quite fairly. So I’m guessing it’s a gamble whether or not you will be given respect. Needless to say the Tartufo was good not epic. I know several people rave about this place and I hope you have an awesome or more awesome experience than my relatives did. Try to speak some Italian and be patient and I am sure you will have much better service than we did.

Everyone recommended to try the tartufo here and so we did. The Tartufo is excellent and lives up to the hype. But the service was terrible. We were sat down outside by one of the handlers and then an argument erupted between him and the wait staff about us sitting there. While no one engaged us directly, it was not a comfortable experience having the staff point to you and your table and then argue angrily. This was not helped by the curt service provided by the waiter. It may have been an off day, but based on this experience, my advice would be to get the amazing dessert to go and avoid the service.

We chose this restaurant because of the prime table we were offered as the prices were similar to the other options in the piazza. But we were so glad we did! I ordered the ravioli and the wife had the mushroom risotto. Both were great and filled our American appetites, although the lasagna was exceptional. The red wine was reasonably priced and the location overlooking the four rivers fountain capped the fantastic meal and experience! You should choose this location for dinner in the piazza.

The food was excellent as was the service. The minestrone was very tasty, pizza was surprisingly light & flavorful, gnocchi was the best ever with a perfect rich & creamy sauce, tiramisu was amazing, very good experience.

The place was recommended by my resident host and so I was looking forward to some local expertise. Nice location over looking the busy market and square, good out-​door heating in the cool spring weather and friendly staff (My waiter was especially lovely and friendly) but that’s where it ends with the positives. The dessert was not to my liking (too much cream, and the cake itself, once located under the cream, was too heavy). This is a personal taste –give me the sweet, dried mango in the market across the square any day. However I wasn’t expecting the eye watering € 12 charge for it, nor the € 6 price of the so-​so small-​sized cappuccino. When I went upstairs to the bathroom there was a lady waiting, expecting a tip for handing me a towel I did not take. I do not recommend this place when in Rome.

The location could not be more perfect for an afternoon apperitivo. My drink of choice — Aperol spritz! Greeted by a wonderful maitre’d and a bowl of peanuts I couldn’t really ask for more. Yes you’ll pay a premium for the location, but when in Rome!

What you pay for is location. The food is ok, not great. The atmosphere is decent. But, the service was terrible. The waiter seemed unhappy the entire time and struggled with menial tasks like bringing Parmesan. The manager had to step in and help and was truly the only highlight of the meal. There are so many great traditional restaurants nearby and better value that I’d recommend going elsewhere. This is overrated and overpriced for what you get. If you want location with mediocre food and service at best, you will be satisfied.

Went there for an afternoon snack and coffee/​espresso with my husband while visiting Rome. Good food and the location was great for people watching at Piazza Navona!

Great café especially in the morning when the Piazza Novanna is quiet and the sun is shining. Enjoy a cappuccino and soak up the rays. They also have an English breakfast if you’re looking for eggs and bacon! Very friendly staff as well :) will come back here for many breakfasts. Truly picturesque.

We loved the cappuccino and the breakfast. It is a bit pricey and the servings are small. You pay for the view and the great tasting Rome coffee.

You will see more places selling gelato than Starbucks here in LA! I am not kidding you~
If you have craving for gelato, don’t worry, you won’t have problem finding them!
Love this shop at Piazza Navona. There are so many things to see in the piazza, the fountains, the local artist and street performers. Once you finish your gelato, few more steps, you can get another one! How convenience is that~

The spaghetti with clams was amazing. The eggplant parmigiana was not memorable. Loved sitting outside side on the patio and people watching.

Pretty average food, nice waiters. Kind of overpriced for the food — this is Italy so obviously all the food is better than that of its Italian American counterparts but there are better restaurants to spend your time with I think.

My first visit was in the early 80s, and then again in 1998. It was a wow back then. Service, food, and ambiance. We loved the deserts and were treated well. Upon returning in 2007 we were not impressed, service, food, it was the quintessential tourist trap. We came back in 2012, but just got gelato. That was good. Go around the corner, to the small out of the way ristoranti, you will be rewarded.

I wish I could give this place negative stars. Undoubtedly the worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. In fact, I will call the experience offensive. When we sat we knew we were getting ourselves into a tourist trap; however, we were blissfully unaware of what exactly was in store. The waiter was rude, pestered us when we did not immediately order, and complained that he gave the wifi before we got our food. They even turned off the wifi for the majority of time we sat there. While the little food we ordered, bruschetta with mozzarella, was adequate, the 7 euro coffee was atrocious. When we asked for one to be remade as none of us were able to drink it, the waiter fought with us and complained it was coming out of his pocket. We told the manager our grievances, and he offered to make another. At that point the waiter returned to complain to us more that we went to the manager (in hopes that he would help), leaving us so offended that we asked to leave immediately.
There are so many amazing restaurants in Rome, don’t even waste a minute in this sad excuse for an Italian eatery.

This place is one of those tourist traps where there’s guy who tries to get u to eat there. I ate there because I wandered off and lost my way somewhere where I had to get it together. Their café con panna sucked and they charged me 6 euro for that. Their pizza wasn’t that great either… I’ve had better in Chicago.
If u want a place to chill out and have money to waste, by all means go here, but have drinks and eat somewhere else :)
So yea food and coffee sucked, but the waiter was nice.

Right in the heart of the Piazza Navona is this cute café, Tre Scalini. We enjoyed some breakfast here before heading out to the Vatican for a tour. You sit outside on their patio right in front of the famous Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi and listen to beautiful Italian music. Fantastic!

Came here to try the tartufo (truffle ice cream ball). The tartufo is admittedly very good, however at 10 euro it is horribly over priced. Also the service and attitude we experienced from our server was poor. We asked for change when paying our bill and our server flat out told us they did not have change! My friend began arguing with him in Italian and he finally came back with our change. Due to the location on Piazza Navona this is a prime spot for gouging tourists and based on our experience they definitely try to take advantage of you. I heard that you can order the tartufo to go for half price so I would definitely recommend this option and just find a nice spot to enjoy out on Piazza Navona.

Someone recommended me to come here to get the Tartufo… what is it? why? gelato? Not sure… well I decided to go. It’s right in the square of Piazza Navona so might as well make a stop for this item. Ask to go to the bar which is basically just the gelato stand… in the middle you’ll see some brown balls that says tartufo. Ask for one and pick a gelato topping of your choice. I had the black cherry. It was a good dessert, and I would recommend getting one to share.

We had gelato and tartufo. Be sure to place your order at the counter and then give your ticket to the man behind the counter.

Le vin blanc au verre n’est pas très bon (on né le choisi pas) par contre le tartuffo est très bon.

Normalerweise lasse ich mich nicht von diesen Marktschreiern in ein Restaurant ziehen, aber mit 10 Stunden Rom auf dem Tacho litt meine Gegenwehr und ich landete im Tre Scalini an der Piazza Navona.
Touristennepp für den Touristendepp, also in diesem Fall meine Frau und mich. Wir saßen nett am Platz, aßen Bruschetta (naja) Saltimboca (sehr gut) und Tartufo (sehr gut) und zahlten anschließend den Touristenpreis von 100EUR
Das essen war ok, aber einfach viel zu teuer. Wenn es sich nicht vermeiden lässt bekommt man hier nettes Ambiente, gutes Essen aber Preise jenseits von Gut und Böse.

Das allerbeste Tartufo in Rom! Nicht nur weil es auf Schirmen und Schildern vor dem Laden steht! Die Kalorienbombe ist wahnsinnig schokoladig und Sie werden einige Schokostücke darin finden! Doch der Höhepunkt ist natürlich die legendäre Kirsche in der Mitte! Sollten Sie auf der Navona sein, dürfen sie die relativ teure (5 €) schokoladige, leckere Kalorienbombe auf keinen Fall verpassen!
Achtung: Nur was für wirkliche Schokoladen Fans, sollten Sie dunklere Schokolade nicht bevorzugen verpasst Ihr Gaumen nichts!

Natürlich wurde auch das Tre Scalini beim Vorbei gehen reichlich angepriesen,. Da der Kellner so nett Deutsch sprach fiel die Wahl auch nicht schwer auf der Terasse Platz zu nehmen.

Das Risotto war sehr schmackhaft und auch durch den Raddicio kaum bitter.
Zum Hauptgang gab es gedünstete Dorade im Kartoffelmantel für 25EUR

Die Dorade war frisch, saftig und sehr gut gewürzt, dennoch finde ich sie etwas überteuert.Da man aber sehr schönen Blick auf den Piazza Navona hat, bezahlt man den Atmospähre doch gerne mit :-).
Zum Dessert gab es den berühmten Tartufo für 10 EUR (Take away nur 5 Euro)

Genau wie die beiden ersten Gänge war das Dessert sehr wohlschmeckend. Das Essen war hausgemacht und nicht mit Pulver angerührt.Das ist natürlich für den Preis schon zu erwarten. Also wirklich sehr Lobenswert.
Etwas schade fand ich das Unser Tisch mit einem Bein auf einem Gullideckel Stand. Also wippte er immer kurz, wenn ein Kellner vorbeihuschte und drauftrat.“scusi — scusi «hörte man dennoch kurz :-) Ich fand es dennch mehr amüsant als nervend. Vor allem als ich sah wie der Tisch positioniert war. Einfach ein Korken drunter geklemmt. ?!

Der Abend war dennoch sehr gelungen, da sich mit Speisen und Service sehr Mühe geben wurde. Ich war auch noch in zwei anderen Restaurants am Piazza Navona. Da scheint das *Tre Scalini eher eines von den besseren zu sein & auf jeden Fall eine Empfehlung wert.

F[censuré]age de gueule intégral. Payer 10EUR pour une –petite– boule de glacé «tartufata» que de devant, avec un vague chou de crème dessus et un cigare maison, ça n’est pas normal. Même dans les lieux les plus touristiques que j’ai visités, c’est moins cher, comme les terrasses d’Avignon à côté du Palais des Papes en plein festival.
D’accord, c’est une adresse historique, mais l’amie qui nous y a emmené et qui connaît cette adresse depuis des décennies (cela faisait 6 ans qu’elle n’y avait plus remis les pieds) a été estomaquée par ce que c’est devenu.
Service pédant, issu de tous les pays sauf d’Italie (se faire comprendre en italien n’est donc pas si facile dans ce cas), tasses de café-​capuccino correctes mais sans être entousiasmantes.
Le comble: les toilettes! Deux malheureuses toilettes auxquelles on y accède en montant à l’étage. On passé par des salles défraichies, mal entretenues et … les toilettes né fermaient même pas! Agacement de tous les touristes qui avaient consommé leur tartufo super cher et qui devaient s’agripper à la porte en faisant leurs commissions pour éviter de les faire en public. Pas de papier, toilettes inondées, et le personnel né réagit pas pour les nettoyer pendant près d’une heure que nous sommes restés dans le lieu.
Réponse du manager: «on nous a volé le cadenas aujourd’hui». Vu les marques sur la porte au niveau de l’ex-cadenas, ça faisait plus longtemps que la journée.
Aller voir ailleurs, cette institution de la vie romaine n’est plus. Paix à son âme! (sinon, la piazza navone est toujours aussi belle et sympathique).

Das Tre Scalini ist nicht irgendeine Eisausgabestelle in Rom, es ist eine Eisapotheke in aller bester Lage.
Weiter behauptet das Tre Scalini zwar nicht, das Speiseeis erfunden zu haben, so jedoch wird für sich beansprucht Schöpfer des Tartufo zu sein.
Wer also seinen müden Körper mit Eis im Tre Scalini sitzend kurieren möchte, muss sich darüber klar sein, dass ein Kurtaxen-​Aufschlag auf alle Preise von 100% fällig wird.
Kostet ein take-​away-​Tartufo nur 5, — EUR, so sind für die sitzende Einnahme 10.- EUR zu zahlen.

Wir sitzen hier häufig bei einem Tartufo oder Espresso und beobachten das lebhafte Treiben auf der schönen Piazza Navona. Abends spielen oft Straßenmusikanten vor der Eisbar. So konnte ich ein Trio dazu überreden, ein Stück zu unserem Hochzeitstag zu spielen. Das Preisniveau ist angesichts der Qualität und der fantastischen Atmosphäre absolut gerechtfertigt. Einer unserer Lieblingsplätze.

Von Eisdielen, oder besser, Gelaterias, in Rom zu berichten ist ungefähr, wie über Parillas in Buenos Aires oder Pommesbuden in Belgien zu schreiben. Es gibt sie an jeder Ecke, jede hat ihre Stammkundschaft die beteuert, ihre Gelati seien nun aber wirklich die besten und so ganz und gar nicht mit der Konkurrenz zu vergleichen. Und tatsächlich: fast alle sind sie gut, und jede Gelateria hat ihre Spezialitäten. Trotzdem gibts natürlich Qualitätsunterschiede. Gilotti beim Pantheon etwa bietet ausgezeichnete Glacé, wers noch ein bisschen exklusiver haben will, geht zu Tre Scalini auf der wunderschönen Piazza Navona. Vor allem das hausgemachte Tartufo, ein Kalorientraum aus dunkler Schokolade, Vanille, Kakao und Kirsche, ist hier legendär. Die exklusive Lage und die wirklich exzellenten Tartufi haben zwar ihren stolzen, um nicht zu sagen, unverschämten Preis, aber wenn man dann auf der Piazza sitzt, dem Treiben zusieht und dabei diese Spezialität geniesst, hat das schon seine Berechtigung. Man sollte bei einem Rom-​Besuch aber unbedingt so viele Gelaterie wie möglich ausprobieren, ja eigentlich sollte man sich während des Aufenthalts überhaupt ausschliesslich von Eis ernähren. Wie wärs zum Beispiel mit einer Eis-​Diät?

Le Tre scalinni est une institution à Rome, d’abord pour sa situation dans la ville en pleine place Navone. S’y rendre, c’est regarder la foule de badauds qui photographient frénétiquement la fontaine du Bernin, c’est regarder les vendeurs de bibelots ou objets contrefaits, c’est entendre des musiciens improvisant un bel canto de pacotille ou jouant non sans talent les grands succès de jazz. Mais au delà de l’intérêt sociologique certain, aller chez Tre scalinni c’est d’abord et avant tout, goûter au tartufo (crème glacée au chocolat avec des copeaux de chocolat noir), vraiment sublime malgré son prix quelque peu onéreux (8 EUR). Amateurs de glaces n’hésitez pas, avant d’aller chez Giolitti passer chez Tre Scalinni en fin de journée pour récupérer de vos pérégrinations.

Une très vieille adresse hyper touristique, certes, mais on y déguste un somptueux Tartufo al ciocolatto, le même depuis 1946.

Pour le café
Le Guide Vert le recommandant vivement pour son café italien, nous y fimes un petit tour… service impeccable, terrasse très agréable sur cette magnifique place romaine mais le café reste en-​dessous de la réputation que lui a batie le Michelin ! Très très fort en fait, comme on né les aime pas nous… tout est affaire de goût !

Bien situé mais un peu cher
Je suis allée goûté la spécialité de ce glacier — restaurant superbement situé sur cette magnifique place: 8 euros le tartuffo (spécialité maison au chocolat noir). Le restaurant avait l’air très bon et plus abordable.

Très bon
Enorme enseigne situé au coeur de piazza Navona qui fait restaurant, mais que j’ai testé au niveau de ses glaces. Le choix est important, varié, c’est pas donné, mais c’est super bon.

Il faut aimer la glacé
Ici si vous né venez que pour les glaces vous serez satisfaits. Mais si vous voulez passer un moment agréable et vous faire servir correctement, passez votre chemin. Choisir entre gourmandise et envie de respect.
