This place was super cool! Great beer selection, really cool vibe ! Definitely the coolest bar we went to in Rome! May go back tonight :) Only place we found with ipa’s. Their sour beers are delicious too! I left my jacket there by mistake and they were kind enough to hold it for me until I came back. Love this bar!

At some point or another we have all envisioned the perfect place for beer. Some people may envision a posh, large, modern, high-tech beer emporium with a tap list of 100 beers and a bottle list of 2,000 bottles. Would you imagine a hole-in-the-wall with only 10 taps and only a handful of tables? You should. Ma Che is the opposite of what one may envision as the world’s best craft beer bar. Does it have 50 taps? No. Does it have 2,000 bottles in the cellar? No. Does it have a $ 5 million keg cooling unit with variable temperatures? No. Does it have a celebrity chef? No. Does it have rare beer sitting all over the shelves for you to ogle at but can’t afford? No. What it does have is character, impeccable service, perfectly poured beers in correct glassware, a lively and personable atmosphere geared towards interacting with strangers. The tap list here is small, but it is well curated. The keg sizes are frequently half kegs, sixtels, and key kegs. This means the keg turnaround is ferociously fast, i.e. the beer is fresh and doesn’t sit around. One recurring static tap is frequently Birrificio Italian Tipopils, a world class session beer. The rotating taps include small breweries Ma Che has personal connections with: mostly Italian, but some American, Danish, Norwegian, British as well. Many beers on tap are made exclusively for Ma Che. The bottle list shared with Bir&Fud is extensive covering retired Belgian lambic to discontinued Italian rarities. There are beers here you cannot find anywhere else in the world. Ma Che is really a small, close-knit group of friends. a hidden gem that people have made their home. This place has personality and a connection. It was my beer embassy in Italy. I made so many new friends and tried many exotic beers, some that I didn’t even order! They just kept appearing. Ma Che completed a beer journey of a lifetime and I hope to return as soon as I possibly can. It is to this date, after 650+ craft beer-centric places visited and reviewed, my #1 spot on earth.

Beer beer beer. Awesome little beer bar with an amazing selection. Doesn’t look like much, just a hole in the wall and a little hard to find. But well worth the search

Absolutely the best beer bar I’ve visited yet. It’s a tiny location with about 10 bar stools inside, but there are so many tap handles that you won’t care if your feet hurt after a few beer samples. The selection is ever-changing and the beer is fairly inexpensive, so get a glass and try ‘em all. Just take a pic of the beers and post them here so I can always know what’s good! There’s free wifi and American sports on the TV, for those of you who are visiting. Plus, down the street is a delicious restaurant with the best calzones I’ve had. They’re very generous with their aperitifs as well…

TL;DR: Chalkboard with ~15 beers on them. All from tab. 4 € for small ones, 6 € for large ones. Smoking outdoors. Music indoors. Toilet in the basement. Well… basically I loved my «Brew Dock» in Dublin. The year I lived there I went to this pub several times a week. Not only for the people(even though they were great) but also for the beer variety. When I moved back to Austria, that was one of the first things I missed. I was on a 4 day Rome vacation with a friend and we stumbled upon this place. And what can I say — perfect. The guys and girls behind the bar were friendly, we had all different kinds of beers to drink and hang out all night. It is a quiet bar, more for drinking & talking than for drinking & partying. But that is what I like… so, go there if you are in Rome.

Excellent craft beer on tap. Be warned it gets insanely busy later in at night and can be very difficult to reach the bar but it’s worth it. Staff are happy to help you make a decision and there’s another(small) area at the back where you can sit down and watch the soccer.

What a small but terrific little beer bar. Paulo was super informed, and eagerly let me try some of the unique beers they have on tap. We hit it in the early afternoon, and were the only ones in there. Again, it gets busy at night, but if you want to sample some of the best Italian craft beers, make this your go to destination, then hit bir fud for dinner and continue your beer drinking

The name means something along the lines of ‘what the hell are you doing here?’, which is just awesome. Although I was trying to stick to Italian beers, the ones they had were not my favourite styles so I went for rocket fuel from a Danish brewery called Beer Here. It turned out to be the best beer I had all trip so I certainly didn’t regret plumping for such a lovely IPA. This is a beer and calcio bar so I imagine the small space is packed when those football fellows take an afternoon off from their sexual proclivities to kick around the old pigskin. There was sports news on while we were there.

Fantastic watering hole. Very small space but people spill out onto the streets. Great beer selection. I am an IPA fan so I was surprised that they had more than one IPA. I highly recommend this place.

This is an amazing place in the Trastevere neighborhood of Rome. It’s in a back alley, but wasn’t difficult to find. We tried to go here twice — the 1st time, it was too crowded and people were spilling out in to the alley, so we stopped at another bar instead. The second time, we got there early enough that it wasn’t very busy yet, and we sat at one of the high tables in the small back room. The staff is VERY friendly, and of course knowledgeable. They offer free wifi, which is always a plus. They had a great selection of beers — even Green Flash, which made me giggle. I was more excited to try some local Italian craft beers and enjoyed a couple of pretty decent IPA’s. Prices were reasonable. They were apparently voted one of the best beer bars in the World, which is pretty amazing! The bathrooms are frightening, but that goes without saying in Italy! It’s a small space, so be prepare to stand in a crowd or hang out in the alley.

Fantastic bar in the Trastavere area of Rome. I went here 3 times when I was in Rome, and each time had a great time. The owner, I think Fabian(or was it Tony?) was very nice! I came to find out his brother lives in Torrance, which is where I grew up! Being an American, you come here for the Cantillon, right? I also happened to be here on Zwanze Day, which was handled smoothly. Their taps are great and showcased a good variety of styles. Would I come here again? I wish I could be here all the freaking time!

MaChe(what we call it for short) has great beer selection that’s always rotating week-by-week. Small and cozy place for a high-volume chat with a friend, or for your loud group. The name of the place is an English equivalent to, «What the hell did you come here for?»… so how could I expect star treatment, hah! It’s a nice asset to the Trastevere scene and there are always people. Small beer goes for € 4, medium € 6.

If you love craft beer then you must hit this place when in Rome. We had several of the Brewfist as they were our favorite. You could find a number of US style IPAs in bottles like Stone and Sierra Nevada, but staying local is what it was about for us and we were not let down. Service was good and friendly(when is it not in Italy!), location was really cool for just hanging out to have a beer… and recommend walking to the place after seeing some of the sights on the other side of the river, or strolling down the river from the Vatican to here.

This is my local whenever I’m in Rome. Which is as often as possible. A great selection of craft brews from all over the place, and a friendly and accommodating staff. It can get pretty college-y on weekend nights, but during the afternoon and evening it’s a chill, friendly place to drink, read, talk, and watch football. When I die, I DO want to be fermented.

If I lived in Rome, specifically Trastevere, I’d be a regular at this bar. My husband and I enjoyed a couple nights here. This place is owned by the same people who own Bir & Fud across the street. Unlike Bir & Fud which serves only Italian craft beer, this place serves craft beers from all over Europe. The bar has maybe six stools inside, with very little standing space. Most people take their glasses and hang out in the street. Reasonably priced, nice bartenders, and a chill crowd. I’d definitely recommend this place to beer fans.

Another great artisan beer bar in Trastevere(along with Bir & Fud right across the way). They serve only craft beer — no food, coffee or tea. Personally I’m not a huge beer freak but my partner is, and he was very pleased with this place. Nice, intimate atmosphere.

A bit of a dive but if you’re a beer aficionado, this is considered one of the best craft beer pubs around if not the only one. The Ama Brun-A(Lover Beer), brewed in Marentino, Italy(Piedmont region) is especially delicious.
