We went here on Friday, 13th May. They live upto there snob value and speak easy vibes. We tried the Buffalo trace sour and Rangoon cocktails. Haven’t tested a better version of a whisky sour before or a more potent drink then Rangoon. We had to wait for 15mins as we didn’t have a reservation. However, the hostess was very accommodating and helped us with a seat at bar(and a table later). Music is good, at optimum volume to enjoy it and still have a conversation. Don’t think you can find a better place then this to have a cocktail or a night out. Speakeasy fellows

Well, what a disappointment! Can I give ZERO stars? First of all: I live in the land of the speakeasy culture revival. San Francisco re-invented the speakeasy vibe for all I know. The anonymity, the coolness, the feeling of belonging and shared kind of illicit desire for the drink. This place in Rome had only 1⁄16 of the recipe and completely loses what little it has managed to claim. Okay; great décor. But that’s it. I hate a «too cool for school» attitude when all I want is a good cocktail and a chill and accepting vibe. This place takes pretentious to a whole new level. And it makes one feel like one has to jump thru hoops like a border collie! All to just get a drink AND spend that hard won dough(never mind that you flew across a continent and the goddamn Atlantic) to get a nice buzz-on. Witness: First: make a reservation. Second: take an online quiz to get a password. Third: stand in line until they open. Fourth: maybe in the rain(thanks for that… you know I am f – king outside… and it’s raining) Fifth: prepare for your rezzie to be disregarded because you«made it late»…as in two days prior. Seriously??? Sixth(I am not exaggerating): want a comfortable chair? Forget it. I actually got sat on a stool like I was a manicurist. Hubby got the barber chair. Cool… can I do your feet? Seventh: fill out a questionnaire and produce I.D. Eighth(seriously, again… NO exaggeration): pay a € 5 «membership fee»… OMG…and I NEVER write«OMG»…screw you all. I am a cloud of smoke out of this place. I hope this is not the NEW way to drink or hang out in Rome. This is the shit I ran away from In Los Angeles. No one wants to feel shat upon. How do you say«Lame» in Italian??? Skip this place and go somewhere… anywhere else to drink.

We went at 23:30 and we nocked in the door, we gave the answer and the doorman opened the door to tell us the bar was full and we could not go in without reservation, no body was waiting in the door but I asked him to write down our names and he said it was not needed. He suggested to wait 20min in a bar nearby(olive and oleo). After 30 min we were back and there was a queue … Now the doorman said: 1, 2, 3, 4 … You have four groups before you! You need to wait 45min to 1h. What??? When I asked him about the 20 min … he started to be rude and we start to be bad treaded. I can not say how the place is inside because the doorman did not gave the opportunity! I would not recommend this place just because this person(Antonio).

This place is like finding Aladins lamp(shhhhhh). They have specialty drinks from the best places on earth but be sure to bring cash(€). It’s best to make Rez but if it’s the shoulder season you should be fine. Know your booze, to get in you have to answer a random question, might be best for bartenders on holiday.

The Jerry Thomas Speakeasy is dedicated to the artisan preparation of alcoholic cocktails. This is a serious business done with professional courtesy. If you manage to get in, do it as your won’t be disappointed. A classy throwback to a bygone era revived with loving care. Speakeasy’s are fun and this is no exception. Enjoy.

We did not have reservations but the guys were very nice by letting us in. The place is cozy, cool, intimate and fun. The service is mind blowing and the drinks are even better. We also were given some free pizza bites and a delicious cookie.

We were staying one street over in a apartment and tried to go here twice. Both times no one answered when we rang the bell. I think if you are staying in a hotel and have a concierge that can book you a table, that’s great, but if you try to get in on your own good luck.

Simply lovely. Antonio takes great pride in his establishment, and every detail is thoughtful. Cocktail menu: Wow, from champagne to house absinthe to a Mint Julep that needed a lesson plan — just an incredible menu, generally, a well stocked bar, and solid mixology. The atmosphere transports you to another time/era, with plush velvet, dim lighting, candles, and a very small, intimate setting. There is something to see everywhere you look, but at the same time, it really brings you close to those you came with. Make reservations for a table, go in small groups, be respectful of speakeasy etiquette and be taken away to another era.

This place got lots of good reviews so we decided to check it out. VERY hard to find! In an alley and have to ring a buzzer, say password or have a reservation. We got in, this place is TINY. Not much place to sit. They asked us to pay 5 euros each just to be there and fill out some paper with our personal info such as drivers license, country etc. This was sketchy to us, we advised we would only be there one time but they insisted. We left, didn’t want to give out our info or pay a cover charge. CASHONLY — so make sure you bring enough for cover charge and drinks, we didn’t. We won’t be back, very shady.

I had been in Rome before but this was my boyfriends first time there. Whilst planning our trip I wanted to visit places that were a bit different from the usual tourist traps. Don’t get me wrong I love sitting in a piazza, with a glass of red wine in my hand watching the world go by but I decided I fancied some cocktails and thanks to Unilocal I found this gem! Down a cobbled alley there is a door that looks very unassuming with just a number and name on the buzzer. Press the buzzer and the peep hole slides across where you are peered at by the doorman and asked a password(and if you have a reservation). Thanks to google we got the password question right but as we didn’t have a reservation we had to wait a few minutes for a table. The wait was definitely worth it. Inside was a small dark room with couches round the walls where people were chatting a drinking away. There was a very well stocked bar and an amazing cocktail menu. The place definitely takes you back to a speakeasy of the 20’s and the staff were helpful and were able to recommend cocktails depending on what spirits you liked. I can’t think of anything bad to say about this place and it’s definitely a hidden gem. A tip is to take some form of ID as they require it for licensing and probably to make a reservation.

If you manage to get in, you’re in for a treat! The cocktails are other-worldly and the atmosphere is so unique, as if you’ve dropped into another era for the evening. Highly recommend trying it out!

I live in New York, was a New York bartender at a cocktail specialty shop, and was trained by the New York Bartender School. I would highly recommend any visiting American(or any Italian who can read this, haha) to hit this amazing speakeasy(globally ranked in top 10). As your número uno drink, try the Improved Aviation … and be ready to be blown away. This place fuses classic style with a modern twist, which you’ll taste. If you’ve ever meet the owner, Antonio, this guy looks like a bartender you might find in an Italian picture book from the 1800’s. On your second drink, I highly recommend the Vecchio-stile — it’s panella and bitters infused and probably the 2nd best cocktail in the house. Amen to this Italian cocktail specialty spot. This will be the spot I take my next Italian date(some day again soon I hope).

Great place off the beaten path in Rome. It is an old style speakeasy that you must know the password to get in. I was visiting with a large group and a few of us went to scout it out our first night in town while the rest of the group recovered at our hotel. Our hotel concierge called ahead and set it up. Guy at the door was very welcoming and the waitress gave great service and spoke English well. The jazz and blues playing was very chill and the craft drinks were amazing. Also sampled a Rum that I hadn’t had before called Dictador because they were out if Zacapa. It was great! We came back the second night with our large party and they were very accommodating.

What a blast! We’ve been mourning the loss of the Hemingway Bar in Paris, and the Jerry Thomas Project was a terrific substitute. These guys know their stuff. I recommend doing some homework on your classic cocktails, and use the opportunity to get rarely made libations. I actually had an authentic blue blazer! We also did some«verticals» running through variations on old fashioneds. In speakeasy fashion, it’s small, crowded, and smoky. But the staff is knowledgeable, the bartenders able, and the drinks are superb.

It’s extremely difficult to get a good cocktail in rome. Now the search is over. Although I was disappointed they couldn’t make me a gimlet I live close by so I’m sure I’ll be back. Also, surprisingly the staff was really nice and helpful!!! Also uncommon in rome!

We heard about this place our last night in Rome, and it was the perfect ending to our 2-week vacation. We got there at 1am and left at 4:30am. Cocktails were excellent. It’s a speak-easy so you’ll need a reservation, password, or referral — plan accordingly. We will be back next time we are in Rome.
