This Carrefour is an «express» branch, meaning it’s smaller and doesn’t carry novelty items; they don’t have a wall dedicated to cereal but in its place has two shelves of «Special K.» Near the front of the store, there’s a gorgeous spread of fresh fish and seafood organized over a slope of ice. Unfortunately, this is the only brightly lit part of the supermarket; the rest looks pretty bleak and cramped. Sometimes there’s a line to go down the cosmetics aisle just to make it to the pasta. Being in Italy, there are plenty of aimless shoppers blocking the paths to exactly what you’re looking for. The alcohol section, which has a small selection of wine, flanks a glass counter crowded with all kinds of formaggio(which I appreciate). There’s a butcher who cuts meat(as butchers do) and a pre-packaged meats corner. At the very back, they have a counter of fresh bread. In the middle of the entire space, there’s a cook who makes«to go» meals right then and there that can be conveniently taken away in disposable tupperware. Sometimes the food looks delicious and other times boring. It’s nice to know that you can grab something prepared for a meal or snack. I live on the same street so it makes my grocery shopping very easy… except I dread walking in here. The staff is very approachable and helpful in pointing you in the right direction or answering questions about the products. One woman, though, sits at the cash register with permanently furrowed eyebrows serves a cold dish of attitude to almost everyone checking out. Sure, Italy isn’t known for its customer service… but it’s something else when my shopping experience becomes unpleasant and outright uncomfortable. For that reason, I only come here for the sake that it’s close.

Great store with fresh produce, meat, cheese, prepared foods, and cold cuts in addition to regular groceries. For a long train trip to Palermo, Sicily we scored salami, buffalo mozzarella, bread, biscotti, 2 kinds of artichokes, cooked beets and pears. We returned on our way back through Rome — great store, especially this branch. We went into another one and it was much smaller with a lot less items.
