My friends and I found this place when we were studying in Florence and decided to give it a try in an attempt to have a meal similar to those back home. Unfortunately, it didn’t really satisfy our nostalgia. Most of the items on the menu were simple breakfast items and the others weren’t really typical diner food. You really could tell this was a diner in Italy. I would avoid it unless you’re terribly homesick.

This place is really only worth it if you are having a serious craving for a big american style breakfast. If you are only in Florence for a short time, don’t bother. However, this place saved me when I wanted to indulge in some American food, even if it wasn’t the best, while studying abroad. A great place to recover after a night out in the city. They also have really great milk shakes. The waits can be long on Saturday mornings. The ambiance is really fun.

I like a lot the atmosphere absolutely 100% American — maybe a bit more colored than actual diner in the US though, which are more sober and black and white as far as i remember but who cares? It is a very fun place to eat. But the food did not convince me fully, I have to say(whereas I was craving for a burger that night! so i should have been very easy to convince, piece of cake). The burger was really not great: the bun was totally soaked with the water coming out of the meat which made me suspect that the meat was not of great quality… But even if it was, it was not nice to eat at to eat this bun absolutely full of water… and in the end i even did not eat it. The rib were apparently not great either, not tender at all… But fries were good! Overall, i was left a bit unsatisfied(despite the nice fries). But i might come back to test the brunch!

I’d consider this place an American three and a European five. It’s hard enough getting an «American Breakfast» on this side of the pond, so if you have an appetite in the morning and want more than a piece of f****** bread with some cheese like everywhere else, go to the diner. The steak and eggs is the best. Steak was tender and delicious… Just a heads up, though. When they say hash browns, it aint hash browns.

Old school diner in Florence that any American will go gaga for. What’s really interesting is that it’s meant to be greasy spoon type food, but the ingredients are so fresh it’s just way to good to be actually labeled greasy spoon. Must go.

What an interesting find, this American style diner is very cool and has literally the best burger I have had in Florence as of yet. This is a fun interior design with really good dance music. The owner is great to students especially the American students of which there are so many in Florence, as he offered us a loyalty card there is even more reason to come back. The tables are very fun with the largest size being a four person table. As i said before all the different burgers were really well done and the French fries are slightly fat and crunchy which I think is perfect. Thanks for a great burger!

Debating to give it 4 or 5 stars. After eating Italian food for a week straight, this restaurant was a very warm and welcoming change from pizza and pasta. Breakfast served all day. Pancakes, eggs, omelets, filtered American coffee, French fries, great burgers. Food was very good. Service was ok.

Seriously, do not bother. AVOID. Knowing that Italians really don’t do significant breakfast — you might get a pastry and a coffee, but that’s about it — and super hungry on our first morning in Florence, we tried The Diner. We should really, really have known better. First, it was completely empty at 10am, which is generally enough of an indication that you should bail out, but we stuck through, thinking that a hearty«American style» breakfast could fortify us for the day. My boyfriend ordered the eggs benedict, and I had a blueberry pancake stack. My boyfriend described it as the worst breakfast he’s ever had. The hollandaise sauce was lumpy and tasted wrong. Served with limp lettuce and a slice of tomato as a «salad». The hash browns were, as other reviewers have mentioned, not hash browns but weird fried balls of batter, and disgusting. The pancakes were better. Served with maple syrup and a «stick of fruit» which turns out to be two chicks of pineapple and a strawberry on a skewer. They were super super sweet, but had plenty of blueberries inside and were much more palatable than the eggs. The décor is super tacky and weird, bright pink walls and a mish mash of Beatles posters and gone with the wind paraphernalia. And super loud crap 80s music. And Nora Jones. Why do so many crappy restaurants love Nora Jones so much? Oh and the wifi doesn’t really work, and requires you to link to your Facebook and like them. Anyway, because we are wimps, we left without complaining, and I wish we had said something.

Terrific way to satisfy your craving for a simple American coffee and hearty omelette! The 3 egg omelette’s are huge and the hashbrowns are perfectly prepared to satisfy your daily crunch needs! Cappuccinos are also larger than your usual Florence serving. Enjoyed a taste of home and then went back to our holiday

«Best Brunch in Florence» Title says it all, in my opinion best american experience in Florence, nothing like the US but hey, you are in Italy!

Every time I come to the Diner, I left full as an egg. I prefer come here for brunch, or American breakfast, and fill me with eggs benedict, hollandaise sauce, English muffins and Canadian bacon. Yes, without shame. Nothing more beautiful then round off with banana split or another lovely powerful sweet. Nice place, colorful, american and 50ies friendly. You will find a bit of everything on the menu: jacket potatoes, bagels, burgers, fried chicken, wrap … and drink from the classic coffee and milkshake to fruit and vegetables centrifuges. The first time you do a check in with Unilocal is provided to you a free coffee.

Exactly as the other reviews stated, when you can’t «stand» another tiny coffee and croissant for breakfast, this place is for you! Full 8 oz coffee with free refills, bacon, eggs, pancakes, free wifi, etc. English. Hash browns are clumps of fried dough but they were crunchy and tasted the same in ketchup. Cheap when compared to what you would pay for the same amount of food and coffee in a café.

Two words… STAYAWAY! This place is a dump! The food is inedible and it feels dirty and grimy inside it was just a bad experience! Their idea of «hash browns» is fried dough(there is no dough in hash browns!!!) we came here for breakfast because we couldn’t find a place to eat breakfast in Florence, apparently Italians don’t do breakfast, so we thought an «American Diner» would be the perfect place… it wasn’t. As an American I have to say food like this is insulting to my nationality, anyway this place is just bad do yourselves a favor make peace with the fact that Italians eat croissants and coffee for breakfast and don’t try anything out of the ordinary(like eggs). When in Rome and all that!

After you stuffed your face with enough pasta, panini, and wine, head over to The Diner for some American food. It would be my go to spot when staying here a few years ago when my friends and I were craving some American food. The place expanded and now has a lot more seating. I ordered a hamburger and fries and it hit the spot. Highly recommend the burgers when you are really craving one. The decoration is very cute and is on point as to what an American diner truly looks like!

I love this place! It is the true home away from home! But the breakfast is excellent! Fresh and delicious! The waitress makes you feel welcome and is incredibly sweet! Speaks english like a pro! So if your from the states I highly recommend this place for a strong breakfast, esp if your hiking this beautiful town.

This place is around the corner from our apartment, Craving and American-style breakfast. It was very good we ordered eggs, omelettes, pancakes. The hashbrowns were quite unusual and very good. Café Americano free on Wednesdays with your meal. Waitress from Canada was very pleasant. A eclectic mix from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. They did not want to leave anyone out.

I have been craving not only American food, but an American dining experience. I was so excited to find this place, right in the heart of Florence. The Diner takes good old fashioned ‘Murican eats and makes them BETTER, plus they have a fair amount of vegetarian food. I ordered a veggie omelet, chocolate shake(died), and a smoothie for my daughter which was also good(She kept stealing my fries, so I was forced to retaliate). I happily recommend the Diner if you want an eclectic atmosphere with lots of ‘60s sounds and friendly service.

Yes, we fell into the temptation… banana pancakes were screaming my name. We had done so well to avoid American temptations, but after 3 months in Italy, we caved and wanted some flour patty goodness. Yes, all Americans when we visited, but sometimes you just need a taste then back to the Italian dishes. If you just need a taste of «home» this should do it for you. All we’ve had is the breakfast but it was very good and lots of food.
