Great egg and cheese sandwich on a bagel. Regular American coffee as well if you’ve had enough espresso and cappuccino! Nice staff, bakery items looked good but didn’t try.

Great place for breakfast! I stayed in a hostel nearby and they did not offer breakfast, so I tried this place based on the reviews. Great breakfast choices, especially for Americans who want our bagel and cream cheese. I got the bagel and cream cheese with fresh fruit, which was delish! The interior is adorable and modern. Menu is in english, as well! Also, the Internet is fast here. My WiFi at my hostel is extremely slow so I will probably be back to do work. Will come again. Thanks Mama!

My first experience with mamas wasn’t the best. The blueberry muffin was super dry. Now I have a new found love. The everything bagel with butter and strawberry jam sings to my heart. And something new at the bakery… home make twix bars AMAZING

Great place to get work done or have a coffee with a friend. They do have free wifi and they only serve American coffee. I had a slice of their Oreo cake which was stellar.

Great Bagels. Went here 3 times for a bagel and cup of coffee. Coffee was American style just like home. Place is probably owned by Americans. Great choice of cream cheeses and bagels were only 1 euro.

First of all it’s a great idea, there wasn’t such a place in Florence and I feel that just this deserves a good score. Food is very nice, maybe it’s not the same bagel that you can get in the US but to my experience it’s a very close match. Being an intercontinental traveller I can say that compared to other foreign cusines/food served in Italy, Mama’s Bakery get’s very close to the«real deal». Only note of demerit is prices, they are quite high for what it’s served, after all Italy is a bread and pastry country, so competition is there. It’s fine to pay a premium for new ideas and food, but maybe they overdid it a little. Still it’s a grat place to go to!

Was so nice and fun to get a delicious bagel and drip coffee! Nice atmosphere that you could bring your laptop to study. Very nice staff as well. I’m sure I will be back many times

I see others have given this place 4 stars only because there is no WiFi. Well, they’ve changed that! So five stars from me If you’re American and live in Florence and have had it up to your eyeballs with brioche and cappuccio, get yourself to Mama’s. I admit to not having had anything other than bagels here so I cannot speak to the other baked goods. I still need to make a trip for lunch. Note that they do take cards but with a 5 € minimum.

Mama’s is your all-American traditional bakery where they have all goods such as muffins, cupcakes, sandwiches, bagels and coffee. I’ve had their black coffee twice and it’s just what I expected(plus if you are a student studying at the Accent center in Santo Spirito, they have some days where they give free coffee!). I’ve had a chocolate cupcake with cream cheese frosting and a red velvet cupcake here and they both were good, but not amazing; a regular sized cupcake is 2.5 euro and a mini cupcake(yes, VERY mini) is 0.80 euro. I would probably come back to try their sandwiches and bagels if I want my American fix for lunch, but it’s so hard to even crave those items when there are so many traditional and delicious Italian food places around that offer bigger portions for either the same or cheaper price as a sandwich or bagel here. However, compared to other American bakeries in Florence, Mama’s is definitely up there. They have little chips to snack on and plenty of seating here! It’s also easy to miss; the first time I came here I walked right past it and didn’t even notice. Kinda cool that the owner is from California also and relates well to the students who are studying abroad in Florence.

As a student studying in Florence this is the perfect place to go when you’re looking for a taste of American breakfast/bunch. The bagels are only 1 euro and their cream cheese is great. It has a lot of seating but forewarning there’s no wifi. I’d definitely recommend this place you can’t really go wrong ordering wise, it’s all delicious!

I am so in love with this place. If they had Wifi I swear I’d be here all day. Best place to come in Florence for bagels and american style baked goods. They often have special types of quiches and savory casserole dishes. But their cupcakes are awesome and I love the brownies too. The coffee(american style) is OK too, although I prefer something a bit stronger … Besides the food, why I keep coming back is because the bakery is big and spacious, lots of seating and an outdoor seating area. Big windows, always a table available, even during rush lunch hour. Like I said IF they had WiFi I would come more often ;) HINTHINT M Bakery! I’m not holding my breath though … it’s been more than three years and still no wifi. I love this chill place and the staff is always friendly accommodating. Gotta come here for breakfast or a late afternoon sweet snack!

Ah, I really want to give this place five stars, but I can’t for one big reason that I’ll mention soon. First of all, I love this place. It reminds me of home. Sometimes I really want just a huge cup of regular, American coffee with a kickass bagel and cream cheese. This is the place to come. I always get the everything bagel because, let’s be real, it’s the best kind of bagel. Somehow they manage to toast the bagel to wear it’s super crunchy but there are no char marks anywhere. It’s perfectly crispy and I love that they slather it in delicious cream cheese that isn’t so heavy that it tastes gross to eat gobs of it. I always get the jalapeño cream cheese and it is absolutely mouthwatering. I crave it all the time. The coffee is great too, especially if you get it fresh, when the pot is refilled. And I definitely think the pricing is fair. The one big downside: I am so unimpressed by their baked goods. I got a muffin that was just«eh.» My roommate got a cupcake and said it wasn’t anything great and she also once got a cinnamon roll that was hard and crunchy, not soft and warm. While I think they have their bagels and bagel sandwiches down(some of the best I’ve had; better than Noah’s in America), the treats leave something to be desired. Also, there is no wifi which sucks but is also understandable. It’s a really busy place so if students were there doing homework for hours it would be an inconvenience to other customers. But at the same time, it’s advertised as being an America café, and in American cafes usually students flock there to do homework. The last time I was there my friend and I felt pressured to leave because other people were standing around wanting a table. So I guess the other downside is that it’s small and kind of off-the-beaten-path. But, a tip, is to go early. We went once at about 10:30 and it was dead. It’s around noon when it gets packed. So all in all, I love Mama’s Bakery. I just wish they could accommodate more people and students who want a place to study as well as stepping up their baked goods game.

Italy is known for its endless options of delicious croissants, pastries and cappuccinos. However, when you are traveling for long periods of time, sometimes all you really want is a good old-fashioned American bagel with cream cheese to remind you of home. Mama’s Bakery has American style bagels and coffee that is prepared fresh. The owner is always incredibly friendly and willing to chat about his experiences coming from California to Florence, Italy. The bakery also has board games and is a great place to relieve stress and relax in a foreign country. If you are in Florence and missing home, this is a great place to visit.

A wonderful bakery right around the corner from my apartment! Mama’s is settled in an awesome location in Florence, far enough from the Duomo to feel off the beaten path, but close enough to the Arno and San Sprinto to be easy to find. Mama’s bagels and drip coffee are a God send for Americans studying in Europe!

I am a fan of mama’s bakery and I often head there to meet with friends for lunch since it has opened. They serve a variety of American & Italian treats such as a variety of bagels with flavored cream-cheese, quiche, a club sandwich to die for — hellooo crispy bacon!, seasonal soups & salads, paninos, and really fabulous desserts. My favorites happen to be the lemon bar, cheesecake and cinnamon rolls. Coffee is fantastic(I do wish they had an iced-coffee version for the summer) and is like a true caffe americano. The ambiance is quite nice and it’s the perfect place to meet a friend or take a break from roaming the city with a book. It can be pricey but I justify it by the fact that what they sell, unlike other places that sell American food, is actually really good. Plus they have avocado in some of their sandwiches which makes them winners in my book!

It’s easy to get lost trying to find Mama’s Bakery(ask me, I got lost nearly every time I went, and I lived there!), but once you find it you’re glad you toughed it out. It’s hard to make out from the street, right until you’re standing in front of it. This was one of my go-to places for those moments when I just really, REALLY wanted a bagel sandwich or a cupcake. Or a cookie. *ahem* I went here with my girlfriends for bagels and coffee, so I have many fond memories here. A good amount of the word-of-mouth advertising is directed towards the expat community and study abroad schools, so if you’re looking for a place that feels a bit more like home then look no further. Love the coffee and tea refills too =)
