Why doesn’t this exist in America??? 20 Euros for my husband and I to each get a strong drink AND a huge buffet? This literally is «happy» hour annnnd We got our next drinks for 5 euros! The place doesn’t have a sign so just know its the second unit off the street corner. The décor was kitschy to say the least but reminded me of a church interior. They had great music playing all evening as well. The buffet had some great choices. I tried a few types of salads, a hot pilaf dish, roasted egg plant, pizza, bruschetta and even some seafood. We thought this was just an appetizer type place before we went but ended up quickly realizing that this was our main dinner. It was affordable and delicious! Also it’s a great way to get to know the city and see where the locals are :)

Ten dollars for a drink AND a buffet??? Five dollars for the second drink??? WHATISTHISPLACE??? WHYISN’T THIS A THINGEVERYWHERE??? The only con was, I ate so much that I couldn’t feel a buzz even after two drinks. Eclectic and quirky decorations. It’s a bit hard to notice with your eyes glued to the food though. Food itself was impressive for buffet food. Don’t come expecting a Vegas Bacchanal buffet. It’s more of a… good university dining hall. Come early to get it fresh. If you’re still skeptical, I researched about fifteen different sites and blogs, and this place is consistently rated as a top ten apertivo spot in Florence for quality and price.

Very eclectic atmosphere. 90% of the people there were coming just for the aperitivo, which looked pretty substantial. The place was virtually deserted at 10:30pm when aperitivo was over. The crowd is generally about college aged. Prices were pretty high for drinks, but maybe because of time we were there. It was a cool place to hang out, very relaxed.

There are controversial opinions about this place. I have my pros and cons. Yes, it’s one of the most rich aperitivo/dinner in town and the buffet is full of different choices for any kind of taste. The bar is nice, music most of the times is dance and there are sofas and high tables and several rooms where to enjoy your soirée, also big screens are available during games. Over cocktails it depends who you find at the bar and choose wisely, the menu is large but I’d stick with the classics if I were you. In the end you spend a lovely evening, you definitely get out stuffed and all that for 10 Euros, drink included. Only flaw, if you digest what you ate in the next 6 hours you’re pretty lucky.

The big thing this bar has going for it is the Aperitivo food and the selection that goes with it. Its a bar that is not far from San Marco and is always filled with hungry young people trying to maximize the dollar for food ratio. The quality of the food is pretty good and there is lots to choose from. Big heads up, if you go, go late, the really good stuff comes out later in the evening. On the down side the place is oddly decorated in a failed attempt to be, well-kitsch. It only comes across as odd and trying too hard to be hip. The wait staff is the sore point with me, they are also trying hard to be too hip for the real world and as a result are surly nearly to the point of rudeness and slow to get your dinks to you. Another tip, be sure to bring cash, although they normally take credit cards, during Aperitivo the CC machine always seem to be broken and contrary to Italian tax law, you never get a receipt, hmmmmm.

This place had a great ambience in the indoor seating, but the food was a bit too salty for my liking. I think it was a nice break for in between classes.

Kitsch used to be THE aperitivo bar in Florence when I studied abroad(this was the location at Piazza Beccaria) and then Kitsch 2 opened to great fanfare especially since it was a whole lot bigger than the first location. I remember kitsch having an abundant buffet and lots of really yummy options and veggies too, also affordable at 6 – 8 euros for the buffet and a drink. That being said I don’t really go to kitsch 2. The drinks are great and a good price but the problem for me is the food. There is a ton of food, don’t get me wrong and students still flock there but its the quality that has gone downhill. Lots of eggs with some sort of mayonnaise and yummy looking but not tasting food. They tend to repeat a lot of plates and the bread is always stale. A few of my friends have felt not so well after eating the buffet so now we just go there if we want a drink. That being said, I recommend trying it at least once just don’t expect great food.

I’m obsessed with aperitivo. This little joint was right across the street from where I was staying and I’m so happy we made it here. You would never expect this spot to be the size it is and yes there is going to be a wait so make sure you get there for kick off. For 8.50 euro you get a cocktail and then an unlimited buffet of the most amazing and freshest Italian food ever. Eggplant, mushrooms, spinach quiche, fresh mozz… I mean you name it they have it. Whether you want veg or meat you’re covered. Oh you want pasta? Don’t worry it comes in multiple forms. Do yourself a favor and keep ordering drinks. Hell go to the bar and just ask the bartender to whip you one up. We got basil and vodka. Life changing. So just keep drinking and keep eating. Make sure you come with an appetite because those Italian’s don’t mess around. And what’s a meal without gelato? Yup you get that too … on the house! This is just one reason to head back to Florence … STAT.
