Conad City

They have a special green refrigerator display case just for vegetarian foods. If you’re in a pinch for a quick meal, you can choose between two types of vegetarian sandwiches for about 5 Euro each. They also have mock meats like veggie burgers and veggie ravioli in this case.
Cold ~250 ml soft drinks are about 1 Euro or less (0,89 E for a Coca Cola light).
My favorite: their extensive collection of store-​brand chocolate bars for only 1 E each. They have white chocolate, dark (72%), extra dark, and more!
The service is quick as there were 4 lines open when I went. They take credit cards, which is a plus.

Quick and efficient little grocer — stopped in for some water (only 0.22 € a bottle wow), salumi, bread and fruit for a quick snack on our hike to Piazzale Michelangelo and it all came out to about 7 €. There was also a big section of cured meats you could purchase by weight which was very tempting. They even had biodegradable bags which really impressed me since I’ve never seen any stores in the u.s. carrying those.

The reason I’m giving this place four stars is because of their prices. I just came back with a huge bag full of stuff (produce, cheese, soda, and candy — I’m on vacation, okay?), and it was 12 euros. Other than that, they would get a three.
The store is small and cramped, though I haven’t been able to find one that is not in Florence. For anyone who hasn’t grocery shopped in Italy before, you have to weigh all of your produce on your own and place a sticker on it before you check out. (You would think this expedites the check out process, but I’m not sure there is a word for «expedite» in Italian.) There are only three here, and they are always crowded and difficult to get to. I wouldn’t come here for my produce if it wasn’t right below my apartment.
They have a large wine selection, but the selections for most other things are small. They have maybe 20 kinds of cheese (almost all Italian — I feel lucky that I found an Emmental). Even with the large wine selection, almost all are Italian. I wanted a Sauvignon Blanc and was forced to purchase it from a more expensive enoteca. But most of the time, these will do just fine.
They never have enough check outs open, so always leave about 10 minutes to wait in line. As far as I can tell, bags are free (I’ve never seen a charge on my receipt) and the staff is usually pretty friendly.
Not a bad place for its size and location, but I think the Carrefour Express a couple minutes down the street is a better option!

Not as busy as Coop supermarket. Has a lot of good stuff to make meals at home. A good option instead of shelling out money eating out 3x a day in Florence. They have a wide selection of cheeses and prociuttos and gelato. YUM! lots of good stuff without breaking your budget.

I don’t usually review supermarkets because i do not know what to say, I remember wondering what i could say about my paris supermarket. But this (great) one is worth a review, especially in the landscape of Florence city center supermarkets that are so, so, scarce: my dear Conad deserves a few words for its good service; without it, i would be lost.
The choice of products is great: i do not know for all countries, but coming from France, Conard has all you would need (except for a very sad experience with baking powder that gave birth to a highly weird and awful cake). It has all the sections you can expect and even a delicatessen one where you can for instance buy a roast chicken (the lazy people like me favorite). it also has a fair choice of frozen products (again lazy people paradise). What is good also is that Conad has its own low price brand so it can help you save money.
The supermarket is quite big but not huge: i would say that its size is highly sufficient though. And do not fear, no matter how busy it looks at 7pm, the cashiers are very efficient. have faith: it will not take you more than 5 minute waiting.

Basically one of the markets with the best range of choices in Firenze. The deli section is top class, as is the fresh fish selection. Rather crowded during lunch and dinner time, so you might need some patience while visiting during those hours. Get a Conad card for discounts.

Ah finally, a big grocery store that didn’t have just potato chips and fizzy water. I really liked the deli section because the meats and cheeses looked really fresh. We ordered some burrata and prosicutto. We also got olives and several dry snacks. Fruits and vegetables looked decent but not the best I’ve seen. Make sure to label what you pick up because they don’t memorize the prices there. I felt bad seeing the cashier run to the produce section and get the price labels for us. Womp.

After walking about 15 minutes away from the square, then we were able to stumble upon a good grocery store. We actually past several small markets, but they were not worth stopping into, so instead we skip them. So we finally came across a market that was really worth stopping in to shop. I loved the deli in this market, it really made me miss having a real deli in the market. Their deli was very impressive, it had everything you could imagine to eat. Unfortunately the markets in Amsterdam don’t have a real deli, but I am sure at some point they will get to that at some point. I was also happy to see that they catered to people with Celiac. In the back you will find a small Gluten free section.
