One of the best Italian restaurants I’ve eaten at, and not surprising that it has good spaghetti bolognese. Amazing wine list — again not surprising given location near Tuscany. Cavernous sub-terranean interior — v. charming. A bit tricky to get too, and you will have to ignore the somewhat kitschy music including covers of 70’s and 80’s pop.

Oh solo mio… I really want to give this place a higher rating because it’s a truly magical location in the heart of a magnificent town. To get here you go through a dark back alley, down a precarious flight of stairs and deep into a six century old wine cellar packed to the gills with near-ancient artifacts, dusty wine bottles and classic fine dining contraband. The location is so Italian, so perfectly authentic that we couldn’t wait for what would come on the table. Overall, we were slightly disappointed. The food was decent — some nice salads, parma ham, a tasty steak, etc. So it wasn’t awful, but I think we were expecting a bit more from one of the top rated restaurants in Italia’s food Mecca. In general, however, the cozy atmosphere, attentive staff and tasty, affordable wine made the night a win, even if we were left less than impressed by the food.

Had a fine meal of salmon anti pasta, followed by a couple of pasta dishes, including a green pasta lasagna(local cuisine), followed by lamb chops. This 600 year old restaurant is in a cellar filled with wine. We found ourselves there on a rainy Sunday night when many of the local restaurants are closed. It was recommended by our hotel. I’ll say it was fine but not memorable. We had had a great meal at di Ceasare the night before an this one just didn’t match up. Nothing wrong with the meal so I won’t say it was not good, just that it wasn’t as good as many other places in Bologna.
