Expensive to buy from(would be tempted to go online). Slightly snobbish when all you want is a(very expensive) strap for your watch. Still a Grafton St insitution ya-de-ya etc…

Friendly And helpful. The watch selection seems better outside. The jewellery selection is good but the cases and displays are overwhelming with all their stock. The customer service I received was exceptional, they helped fox my watch, gratis! I was so impressed with the service I ended up buying a few pieces there later. They created a customer for life.

A posh up-market jewellery store. I was in the humour for a nice watch and ended up making the purchase at Weir and Sons. The store itself is quite large, with a very impressive selection and helpful staff. Things have been moved about recently, as the store itself has been given an internal face-lift — but it’s still as nice as ever. Tip: While it may seem like a given, I’ve found it helpful to shop around at the prices first. I was able to negotiate a good price on my watch because I knew all the competitor prices in the area. At the time of my purchase Fields was giving me the best price(22% off the ticket price). Weir and Sons offered to beat that(eventually.) My experience: I was looking for a nice watch. I had a decent idea what I wanted. Something that auto-winded, with a perpetual calendar that be functional until at least 2100(long after I’m deceased and buried.) Finally, I wanted the watch to be entirely mechanical, including the alarm. It was quite a search. My last stop was Weir and Sons, where I was assisted by two staff members. I’m certain they do work off some sort of commission, as there was a gentlemanly discussion as to whose name was going to go on the sales ticket. They were helpful in the selection process and unlike Fields, knew how to operate the watch itself(demonstrate the mechanical alarm and so forth.) Even though it was near closing time, I was not rushed whatsoever. I found this to be very appropriate, as I was indeed a customer with cash to spend. This was quite a contrast from Fields two nights prior, where I was nearly rushed out the door even though I was ready to buy the watch — I just wanted to hear the alarm first. I found the service to be better here. Even if they had simply chosen to match the best price I found, rather than beat it — I still would of chosen Weir and Sons. I felt that the on-location smith, who adjusted the watch band and so forth, would give me a better sense of comfort should I need the watch serviced.

Weirs has to be one of the most established jewelers in Dublin. At the storefront you can see a lot of the prestige jewelry and watches which are supplied by very recognisable brands. However I’ve found myself using Weirs less for buying jewelry and more for the other related services that they offers. They have an excellent repair and cleaning section which I’ve used personally and in a corporate setting. They also have a large giftware section which might give you ideas of what to get friends and family for those significant events. They have quite an array of things like frames, toothboxes and other gift items. I have also bought jewelry there and have found that the established nature of this jeweler means that they have an idea of what the customer wants, even if you’re not so sure yourself. I remember once giving a description of the kind of silver chain I wanted which had to have been very unclear and yet they managed to find something very like it behind the counter.

This wonderful shop is very well stocked with many international brands and a large variety of new and antique silver giftware, however this shop is most popular for its watches, luggaege and jewellery. I purchased a few personal silver items actually hallmarked and made by Weir & Sons in Dublin. Good value for the money spent. Very personable and ethical sales staff. A real good shopping experience. This shop has everything, good staff, good atmosphere and is extremely large. It is worth a visit!
