Health Matters

Health matters provides very average customer service and is over priced relative to its competitors. It’s loyalty card provides them an excuse to advertise via email, with almost zero rewards!

Great staff. Not the easiest shop to browse around as it is so tiny — this would be an issue if the staff weren’t so helpful.
For such a small space they have a great selection and do some very good specials. You might presume due to the location on Grafton Street that the prices would be higher then other health stores but this doesn’t seem to be the case

These guys have a great loyalty programme. If you shop in here regularly, get a card and you’ll earn points to get money off future purchases.

This is a really little store that you could easily walk past on Grafton Street, but it’s packed full of Healthy Treats and supplements. The staff are really lovely, they are really knowledgeable and able to help you with anything you are looking for. They also run a loyalty card, so that you can collect stamps to get a discount on your next purchase.
Its funny — its the little things that make all the difference, especially in this compact shop. Looking for anything unusual in the «health food section» this is your place to go! :)

Very good selection of natural products. No dyes, perfumes or sulfates. Or animal testing.
Have a lot of nutritional supplements. Cary protein bars and some food products. Gluten-​free, wheat free…
Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. Not the cheapest place in town but good quality.

Went to Health Matters in pursuit of some cheap nutritional yeast, and got it for 3.59, which costs about a euro less than other health food stores in Dublin, so in terms of price it ticks the box for me — well at least in relation to the price of nutritional yeast.
The only problem with Health Matters is that it is a bit poky, and the shelves have way to much stock on them. I felt myself squinting up to the higher shelves at points, and it gets a little tiresome having to constantly apologise for being in the path of another patron.
The only food product that seems to be within ones eye line is island of «good» treats, like raw vegan bars and Green and Blacks chocolate. I actually ended up picking up an expensive brand of yogurt flavoured peanuts before asking the shop assistant at the till, did they have any yeast in stock? Cue a quick trip down the back of the shop, and boom, I’d found my yeast.
Why I was unable to locate it myself having spent a good ten minutes doing loops of the shop floor indicates that they need to de-​clutter a little.
Staff seemed nice, and from what I could overhear, they appeared to know their stuff. However like most health food stores, bargains are few and far between, with much of the product being unjustifiably overpriced.

i’ve decided to up them by a star because the staff are knowledgeable, friendly and quite helpful (which surprises me that Bridget R. had a very different experience). especially when you’re faced with 4 kinds of aloe vera juice, you have a giant [[???]] floating above your head and your face has that lost puppy look on it. they also get the extra star for being much cheaper than [that other place on great st. george’s street] with better lighting and better organization. also, their bach flower essences are over a euro cheaper than anywhere else in town that i’ve found.

There’s no shortage of health food and natural supplement shops in this city, and I’ll be looking to those before revisiting Health Matters.
On a hunt for L-​Glucosamine (or something like it) I dropped in here on a weekday morning looking for a small bottle of the stuff. Puzzling over the shelves for a minute, I asked a saleswoman for help… and have regretted it ever since. Brusque and condescending, she rolled out a long list of why my choice was wrong, asking me sharply what *was* I thinking and clearly whoever suggested it to me was uneducated in supplements (I wasn’t winning any points, either).
I was shocked to be spoken to this way in a shop, and numbly accepted whatever bottle of stuff she gave me instead (it’s been put in the hall closet should I ever need… what IS that stuff, anyway?). € 12 lighter and feeling quite harangued
I walked out of the shop, vowing never to return.
Worked out well so far.

Health Matters do focus more on supplements and snacks, than real healthy food, but that means I don’t have to go into one of the more dodgy bodybuilding shops to get my protein shakes and bars. In true Grafton-​Street– style everything is just a wee bit overpriced, but in fairness to them they do stock some of the nicest ‘healthy’ snacks and they are conveniently located right in the middle of everything. You can also get Dr. Hauschka and Burt’s Bees creams and lotions here as well as makeup. All in all, they do have a good selection and the staff are some of the nicest girls you’ll meet– helpful and smiley.

Health Matters is a well-​stocked health food shop on Grafton Street. THe emphasis here is on supplements and alternative herbal medicines rather than healthy food, though they do stock a selection of cereal bars, flapjacks and those yummy Scottish oaty biscuits withthe fruit bits that I was addicted to in college.
If you are into body building and need a helping hand in the form of protein supplements or the likes then this is the place for you, as there is shelf loads of plastic jars with pictures of flexing muscly men on the front. Scary stuff!
Not the best health food shop in town, but a convenient one.

This rather small health food star is one of at least three within a one-​minute walk, indicating just how much us Irish have embraced the health food craze of recent years. The staff are well helpful, and genuinely know their stuff. Unlike other such stores, they are either really well trained or genuine adherents. Either way, it makes it far easier to go in a bit uncertain about what exactly it is that you are looking for and ask, as opposed to the blind guessing you’re expected to do in other places. On the down side, it is quite small and doesn’t have an awful lot of stock, which is a bit annoying.
