It was my first game of golf in 2015… I knew I was going to be rusty… Im usually not very good… I packed a lot of spare balls! The reason I like to reintroduce myself to golf via Stepaside most years is that it is a very forgiving course! Its one of the longer courses out there with a good number of par 4’s and a few 5’s… The fairways are long and wide and although the greens are a bit unkept at times its a super course considering how cheap it is! And cause its public no membership required just rock up on the morning and hope the rest of Dublin doesn’t have the same golfing ambitions as you that morning!

I agree with David D.‘s review — this 9 hole public course is a reasonably priced little gem. You get a nice view of the Dublin mountains while playing and the holes are a decent challenge but not horrible(especially now that they have shortened the 9th — no need to ring the bell anymore!) — though anyone playing with a hook is going to need to aim right to avoid the out of bounds on the left a few times. The only slightly annoying bit is the transition from the 3rd green to the 4th tee — if you don’t know the course it is quite difficult to find. Thankfully there was a queue on the 1st tee(which you walk by on the way) to direct us the first time around.

This is a little hidden gem in Dublin. If you are just a fledgling golfer who is thinking about giving the sport a bit more time and effort but never had the chance to play on a real course because you can pay the huge membership fees that most courses demand… this is the place to go! Stepaside is a 9-hole public golf course that has reasonable green fees and gives the golfer a good challenge. It is located across the road from the more popular Stepaside pitch and put/driving range which is also public. You can play here for 12e(9 holes) or 17e(18holes — 2×9-holes!!!) its a little bit more expensive at the weekend. It is a very good looking course and provides a healthy challenge to the golfer. Although it seems a bit expensive its probably a better course to play on than Leopardstown Golf Course which fails to challenge very much of the golfer.
