I went here recently to get my eyesight form for my driving license. All was fine til I went out to the driving licence centre, having waited a couple of weeks for an appt, where I was told the form was incorrectly filled out. I had to leave, get a new form and reapply for another appt which was also weeks away. When I left I called the optician to tell them and the woman who answered the phone was beyond rude. I know the issue wasn’t her fault per se but when you work in a customer facing job you sometimes have to apologise for things that aren’t your fault. She was really dismissive of me and eventually I told her that I would have appreciated an apology as it was a big inconvenience having taken time off work to go to which she replied«I’ll let the optician know.» Oh. Right. I’ll never go back here!

I noticed a deterioration with my left eye — eek, panic stations! So I booked into Mairead O’Leary Optician, the nearest to where I lived. Convenience all the way with this decision. The nice lady on the phone asked if I was covered by PRSI. I’d no idea, so she offered to check for me before my appointment. It turns out I was covered, nice one. Mairead did the test and assured me my eye was fine. The vision had deteriorated but only a little. Glasses would not be needed quite yet. She also thoroughly checked out the health of both my eyes and all was fine there too. I left happy with my appointment. To agree with Eamonn, friendly and professional.

Mairead did a fantastic eye test for my 10 year old son, yesterday. He to go back again for a second test because he was tired when he did the first test. It was a really thorough examination which he needed because he had been complaining about not being able to see the blackboard in school. I would recommend Mairead strongly.

I’ve been around the block when it comes to opticians but a few years back I decided to stick to this one… and I think I know the moment I made that decision: WIthout my glasses I can barely see, so picking new glasses always means squinting at the mirror trying to guess from the blurry shapes which frames looked the best. That is until the wonderful Mary offered to put contacts in for me while I picked them out(yes I haven’t got contacts… can’t quite bring myself to put something in my eye!) Suddenly it was all so much easier! Of course they also have the technical expertise and look after your optical health very well. They lose a star for their frame selection. The shop isn’t that big so this has to be limited. They usually have quite a nice array of designer frames which reflect what’s in fashion, but sometimes you want something different at it’s not there. They also usually do a deal on a second pair so they manage to be competitive with the bigger chains. If you want a good service where your eyes are looked after rather than a large conveyor belt opticians experiences this is a good place to go.
