Description

Specialties

Aoibheann McNamara’s Ard Bia at Nimmo’s has gone from strength to strength since winning Food & Wine magazine’s Best regional restaurant award a few years ago. Georgina Campbell says ‘MacNamara’s enthusiasm, energy and commitment to quality are evident throughout the operation’. And it shows. The eclectic arty dining room overlooking the Corrib in historic Spanish Arch is renowned for its to-die-for delicious food that uses the best of local sourced and seasonal produce. The mezze plate, Rib-eye steak with roast shallot potato cake and Crozier Blue sauce and chickpea pancake with spinach and feta are our favourites. Aoibheann has also opened up a local gallery upstairs with some fabulous artwork to browse and chat about over coffee.

History

Established in 2000.

Ard Bia started as a small coffee shop in Galway city in 2000, and moved a couple of years later upstairs from the famous Neactains pub. It is there that Ard Bia grew in popularity, established itself as one of the best restaurant in the West of Ireland and championed artisan and local food.

Ard Bia finally moved 7 years ago to its current location byt the Corrib river. Nimmo’s building has provided the perfect backdrop for Ard Bia distinctive identity.

Business Owner

Everyone is «Darling Sweetie, Honey «to Aoibheann

Originally from Donegal she has been a part of the Galway landscape for a good few years now.

As well as being a successful business woman she is also heavily involved supporting the more experimental art scene in Galway.

Ard Bia has always drawn the more left of centre to it, both in its original incarnation on Cross St, the gallery that was on the Westside, and now in its more permanent location in Nimmos Pier.

Its hard to get her to sit down but raspberry cupcakes will help…
