This Dun Laoghaire store would be the site of my biweekly book buying. I’ve found the staff pride themselves on knowledge of the store and the books. Very helpful indeed. The last six visits have been quick and efficient due to the always available attendant who will look after all your needs. What’s nice about this store is stumbling across a chair or a bunch of chairs,(comfy blue ones) sporadically placed about the store. Not to mention the availability of a free seat in the café located on the top floor. I recommend a relatively fresh dessert while you dive head first into your brand new paperback. Alas, and of course with every review their traditionally would be an ‘alas’, careful not to knock down the little old ladies between the tight-ish book shelves around the sides. But that’s it! Brink your kids, bring your money! Invest in a book, or a series at Hughes & Hughes.

A newer development in Dun Laoghaire, i was sceptical that the town needed another large book store, considering that Dubray, Eason, and the wise Owl had pretty much got the market cornered in the locality. Though this store has if anything captured nearly all the customers in the town through its attractive location and bright interior. Dubray and Eason both suffer from their dank and unappealing interiors while Hughes and Hughes boasts everything from«Hughes» windows(spell check can be funny sometimes!) to comfy seats, and space to walk around and view the books on offer without having to squeeze past the other customers. I have found it funny that they have had an «Irish Times Now On Sale Here» sign on the door of the store for the last year, it must bring in a lot of customers… Also they have the bonus of a Coffee shop on the upper floor, which can only be accessed through the shop. Win win situation really.

There is a very small Hughes and Hughes Booksellers in Nutgrove Shopping Centre. It is the very same as all the other Hughes and Hughes around the city but this one has no comfy chairs, and it is too small for lounging and relaxing, but as it is so small and out of the city centre they usually have some really good deals and offers on so well worth a look if you are in Nutgrove!

Just your normal big book superstore filled with bestsellers neatly(shudder) categorized. Then you go upstairs and find a café, an improvement but it’ll take more than that to impress the likes of me. So you turn to your left and find a philosophy section, so what? Every decent shop has one of these. What’s that? A CHAIR! Not only that but a comfy chair. I could stay here for hours!
