A lovely city centre pub.
I found the Barman (Ronan I think) to be most friendly. Nice pints in nice surroundings

Your quintessential old Dublin man’s pub. Nice bar men, good atmosphere with a fair aul dollop of the craic added in — it’s a great spot really.
Beer prices seem about average and it’s got a bitta room in there if you’ve got a few people in tow. I’d say it probably wouldn’t be a place for sit down comfy drinking if you’re there over a busy weekend night, but should be just the spot for during the week.
Banter with the bar men definitely brought the visit up a notch — I can’t really see how anyone wouldn’t enjoy a nice pint in here.

Great bar which is never too packed or too empty! Reasonable range of beers with decent prices considering the location. Great mix of young and old too and the music is decent!

Bars in town can be tricky. Varying from complete dump to «not tonight mate». But amongst all those there are several that have a great balance.
This is one.
Was here recently for the Ireland game, good atmosphere and nice crowd. Barman are fast and polite, there is a welcome «no kids» policy too.
Nothing fancy, just ticks all the boxes for a pub and that’s perfectly fine with me.

The bartender — owner let us in, probably past closing. Great company, great recommendations for foodie spots around town. Overall beautiful bar with great history. And great choice in microbrew drafts. Great Dublin experience. Highly recommend.

I have the good fortune of visiting Ireland on a pretty regular basis and I always find myself in the Swan. The Guinness is excellent, the staff are awesome, the locals quintessential, and surroundings historic (ask the owner, he may just show you the bullet holes).
Take the time to walk the few blocks off Grafton St or Stephens Green and come in for a pint. You won’t regret it.

A lovely spacious old world pub.
The bar area has a long counter top and lots of bright light coming in from the high windows. Mix of locals and tourists when I was there last, a 6ft plus German group of men to be exact and one was dressed as a leprechaun.
The lounge area is very cosy with a TV to watch the sports etc.
Very friendly bartender and the usual stuff on tap.

As of yesterday the (29^th Feb) the Swan is where my girlfriend proposed to me. She had a t-​shirt with «Will you marry me?» under her jumper which she opened up as we were sitting down. (I kid you not)
Of course because she is amazing I said «Yes!».
I had recently created a pub crawl list for Unilocal and was looking for one more bar to put in a bit of a gap in the list. So after some food we went for a couple of drinks little did I know what was in store for me.

The Swan is ideally located and has a very friendly vibe from it. There are pubs on this street that don’t really feel that welcoming, but the Swan is great. It’s also not full of kids and has a couple of tv’s for sport which although there are easily avoided.
The decoration is nice, dark wood panelling and tables etc. Also the bar staff are great and will come out to take your orders, which I think is a great touch!
«The Swan» will now be the pub we go to for our engagement anniversary drinks. But only once every 4 years!

Popped in here for a bowl of soup — yes they still serve soup in the summer.
It was one of the best soups I have ever bread. I was offered brown or white bread so I gritted my teeth and said brown. None of your supermarket rubbish bread here it was wonderful good, thick and very tasty — low GI apparently. Soup still € 4.

Yes you have the locals but they were lovely and very friendly.
Would I go again — yes.

I went to college practically across the road from The Swan (Media Arts class of ’09 foreva’!), but all the way through college, I never actually entered this particular as I found the place mildly terrifying. You always see really gruff locals smoking their fags outside, and I didn’t imagine that they would extend a welcome to a freewheeling long-​haired urbanite, the likes of myself. Although there were also usually a few suits to be seen outside as well, so I reasoned that it couldn’t be that bad.
Anyway, what with one thing or the other, I never crossed the threshold of The Swan through the entirety of my undergraduate degree.
The first time that I actually entered The Swan was for the afters of our final screening (tears), and the lecturers and students all decamped there after we had consumed all the free wine in college. And The Swan was pure brill-​o.
This positive experience may be coloured by the fact that all the lecturers were really drunk and began to bitch about each other (to our delight), or the fact that I was really drunk and made some ill-​advised attempts to press the flesh of the television producers present, alienating everybody in the process what with my slurred ramblings and all, thereby ensuring that i will never ever be offered a job in RTÉ. Ah well.
The Swan is really nice inside though, really long bar and quite narrow all the way around, so that it feels nice and cosy. You wouldn’t want to go to The Swan for a mad one or anything, but I daresay it would be very pleasant for afternoon/​early evening pints.

Your local in the heart of the city centre, the Swan is a very special pub. Drop in any afternoon and you’ll find 4ft grannys nursing pints of Guinness, while the odd toddler runs around underneath the tables.
Excellent Guinness, I might add, it goes especially well with the € 4 house soup. Not sure if they serve soup during the summer, or indeed, if it’s still € 4 but that’s my excuse to drop in.
Oh, and it’s got a bust of the owner in the corner. Easily the greatest feature in a pub ever. Ever.

This L-​shaped old man’s bar is a wonderful little jewel in the middle of Dublin. The pints are cheap, cheaper than other pubs in the nearby vicinity.
It’s quiet generally and the clientele is older and mostly male. You might get a wee look when you come in but settle down with your pint and your mates at the back of the pub — just drink and watch the random sport silently playing on the TV.
Food served during the day.
No specific smoking area. Toilets in reasonable (ish!) condition.
