Specialties
The Gutter Bookshop is an independent bookshop situated in the Old City part of Dublin’s popular Temple Bar area. We sell all kinds of books, including some great children’s books, as well as gifts and stationery. We aim to provide you with something a little bit different than you’ll find in the big chain bookshops so do please pop in to us and say hello!
History
Established in 2009.
The Gutter Bookshop was opened in October 2009 by Bob Johnston. Having worked for bookshops for over 30 years, Bob decided to put his money where his mouth was an open an independent bookshop in the heart of Dublin during one of the worst recessions in Irish history. 4 years on and the bookshop continues to grow and grow, and Bob swears it’s the best thing he ever did!

Business Owner
Bob Johnston set-up the independent Gutter Bookshop in 2009. Previously he worked as a book buyer and store manager for Hughes & Hughes bookshops in Dublin and over the past 23 years as a bookseller he has worked for various independents, Waterstone’s, Ottakar’s, Dillons and Blackwells. He is a regular book reviewer for ‘We Love this Book’ and ‘Inis’ magazines, as well as TV3’s Ireland AM Bookclub slot. When he’s not selling books to people he can usually be found reading books, talking about books or attempting to smuggle more books onto his already over-flowing bookcases.
