I’ve been in a at least three times now and on all occasion the guy behind the counter was so friendly and nice. Wishing me a nice day. I got the California roll each time, four pieces with all the trimmings for 3.95EUR. It’s good value and a tasty snack that I feel is a bit better than getting a sandwich. I am a fan and I will be back

Last time I checked, Sushi King manages to shell out some pretty good sushi at a reasonable price. Unlike the other reviewers, I was satisfied with the portion, but then again, I usually don’t go for sushi when I’m really hungry. I grab my tuna maki rolls when I want something fresh and healthy to nibble on for dinner and for me, Sushi King on Camden street is a nice brake from all the chippers around. Not a place for dining in but fine for take-away.

Sushi King is a great little place. I know, I know it is a chain store but they’re an Irish chain, and they’re an Irish chain with only three links in it. So, they’re not really a scary corporation by any stretch of the imagination. Add to this that they won a Bridgestone award last year for their food and that an average(read: small) bento box comes in around € 4, with huge and seemingly random reductions(at the discretion of the staff, perhaps) in place after 5pm, and this doesn’t seem such a bad option for lunch. The staff are very nice here too, they recognised me even though I’d only been in twice, and they are keen to explain and to recommend things from the menu, including tasty daily specials like Thai curry. So three stars for a fun and pretentious alternative to the sandwich, two removed because although Sushi is good, the portions ain’t as filling as I’d like.

The Sushi King chain just opened a store on Camden Street and they were giving out flyers with a shark cartoon and text that read«Don’t be scared! It’s not all fish!» I got a good chuckle out of that; it definitely goes to show you sushi’s pretty new here in Ireland and people aren’t totally prepared to eat loads of raw fish. Luckily, Sushi King offers chicken sushi. That probably makes a lot of people feel safe and secure, but I think it sounds gross and stupid. If you’re going to eat chicken, eat chicken! Don’t fork over too much money to eat«sushi» that… isn’t. I’ve been stuffing myself silly with sushi for 10 years and have been dying for some but have been turned off by the high prices here in Dublin. So I was excited for the 30% off they offered on the flyer under the shark. I got the Fish Fetish platter, which consisted of 6 nigiri, and 4 maki. I thought the nigiri was excellent. The fish was very fresh and delicious. I thought the rolls were a little less exciting; the rice to filling ratio was off, and I felt a little gypped. They were still tasty though. The whole platter was 9.20 before the discount, but I wasn’t full afterwards. It just wasn’t enough food, simple as that. For that kind of money I could have stuffed myself silly twice over.

A fantastic little take away, this place uses fresh ingredients to prepare sushi, hot and cold Japanese dishes from Monday to Friday each week. as everything is made that morning in the premises, the sushi is only available from 11am. Perfect for lunchtimes and for a quick snack or an evening treat on the way home, this cheap, cheerful and delicious little place is worth a visit.
