Spin Roller Disco

I won 2 tickets to attend tonight Roller Disco party. Isn’t it awesome? Indeed ! One thing. I have tried roller skating once, I was 5 years old. What happened? I was on my ass the entire time. Ok, doesn’t sound so good you’re thinking. I would agree. But let’s think positive for a second. I am all grown up now. My coordination is way better after 24 years then when I was a kid, right? Ehm, yeah sure. Let’s see what happens. You never know. Maybe I will be rocking the roller dance floor and will become the new roller sensation in town: D Haha what a joke ! Sorry, I meant… Yeaaah sure xD

The next day…
I fell on my 2 bum times. I fell on my everything once. I have a scratch on my left elbow. We were given wrist protection but we can also ask for elblow and knee protection, even a helmet. Next time I will be wiser.
It was loads of fun, really. My feet are a bit sore the next day but it was worth it. There were some girls from the roller derby. They were really good ! A good few other people fell on their bum as well. I was not the worst: D I was holding my dates’ hand the entire time. It made me feel confident. And when he stopped to congratulat me, guess what? I made us both fall xD
Great experience, I think I could do it again !

Wow! It’s like a blast from a past I’ve never been to!
I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I picked up a great grab one deal for a 3hr session at Spin. I was not disappointed. Upon arrival, there were a much larger than expected number of children and we were slightly concerned it’d be like an ice-​rink at Christmas with children falling and almost having their fingers sliced off. However once we got in, we were very pleasantly surprised.
We went to exchange our shoes for skates and we were surprised they had my husbands size, as he generally cannot find shoes to fit, let alone rental skates. The staff were quick and efficient, however not exactly as warm and friendly as I would expect. Then again, if I had to deal with that many kids every day, I don’t think I would be much better. :)
The skate area is generous. The music was general chart music, completely aimed toward the massive number of tweens in attendance. We quickly picked up how to skate having had the pleasure of doing so in our younger years. This place is fun. It’s pretty much how I pictured roller discos from when my parents were teens. Just skating around and laughing at your other half wobble across the floor was worth it.
There is a generous sized café attached, I do wish they had a better selection. Prices are what you would expect at an event like this. Not horrific at 2e a bottle of Fanta. Would love to see more than pizza available for a snack also.
I will absolutely be back here, however on an evening with less children and more 80s. This place is an excellent venue for an unusual date, or a night out with a difference with friends. Great fun.

im a 34 year old woman and some of the staff members in here talked to me like i was an 8 year old who just skipped school, cursed at her granny and stole from the local shop. their attitude towards the customer was awful.
and i experienced this both on the door and on the track. i am far from a good skater, in fact im a complete beginner like a lot of people who visit here but i also pay in just like everyone else. i do not appreciate staff skating up behind me while i was trying to learn and asking me to either skate of to the side or leave the track so as not to get in the way of the real skaters.
the idea of this place and the set up of it are brilliant. the vast selection of roller skate sizes, the varied new and old music, wide skating track, old school disco lights and pretty big café all lend themselves for this place to be a brilliant hang out spot for kids and adults alike.
but the staff completely ruined it for me, not just once but twice. you’d be hard pressed to convince me to go back here a third time.

I use to skate every saturday from the age of 7 to 11 in the Top Hat in Dun Laoghaire. I loved it so much. My skating experience since the age off 11 had been very limited up until the last year and a half. I mostly just did a bit of street skating.
Im not sure how long Spin has been open but I think it is about 2 years. There is also a venue in Blanchardstown. I have only skated here about ¾ times. It is open Wednesday to Sunday. I have been on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Fridays onwards is pretty much full of kids/​teens. Wednesday and Thursday has a mixed crowd with mostly adults. € 15 in but with concession its € 10. Free WiFi and canteen there also. Skate rental included in entrance fee. You can use your own skates if you want.
Dublin Roller Girls also use this venue to train from time to time — showing off their skills whizzing by us mere wannabes!
80’s night on Wednesday = score! Three hours of roller skating and listening to 80’s music. After 2hr 45mins I fade! Be warned it is very cold in this place — Im always cold but lots of people have commented on this.
Great fun option other then going to the pub. I leave very happy but cold and hungry.
