I’m not too keen on Sandymount Green. It’s not terribly well maintained(all the park benches are caked in bird poo, for example) and the small size means there’s lots of traffic noise. As city parks/green areas go, this is not one of the better ones– unless you’re a fan of watching nannies running after toddlers wandering towards the road.

It is tiny like the others have said but it suits my frugal living quite well. Make a sandwich, buy a paper. Pick a non windy, non rainy day and viola you have a lovely place to chill out for a few hours. I admit that finding the right conditions can be difficult but that’s just the joys of an Irish summer. It is always bustling which gives it a nice atmosphere plus the strand is just a stones throw away and it’s surrounded by local eateries.

A great amenity for the locals and one we enjoy regularly but for me this place comes into its own but once a year… and put it in your calendar of you can… Stephens day(the one after Christmas day for you non orish lot) The wren boys sing and dance, the pubs are open for a few hours, people come from miles around, a truly lovely way to start the day and one I intend to enjoy for many years to come!

Sandymount Green is a pleasant but tiny triangular park in the centre of Sandymount Village. Flanked by Mario’s Italian Restaurant, Sandymount House, Butlers Pantry bakery and Borza’s takeaway on one side, and Browne’s café-restaurant on another, the Green is the social heart of the village. Couples old and young perch on the benches around the park’s perimeter, young lads play frisbee or football, wee ones tare around on bikes and trikes, and the childminders and leisurely yummy mummies of D4 line up the buggies for a gossip over their lattes. There’s occasionally a few bums around too to balance the affluence. The park is always well maintained, the grass freshly cut and plants and flowers well tended to, and at Christmas, a giant tree of Grafton Street proportions is erected in the centre of the Green.

Trust Sandymount to have as English an affectation as a triangular green. Southsiders. West brits the lot of them. In fairness, the green in Sandymount was probably lovely back when Sandymount was a sleepy village south of Dublin town; now that the city has spread far beyond Sandymount and there’s busy traffic running along all of the green’s three sides, it’s not quite so lovely. I remember back in the day, a friend of mine lived nearby and we went on the knack in Sandymount Green. We were only 15 or 16 and we were there for an hour or two, yet no-one called the Gardaí on us. So, if that sounds like the type of thing that you might enjoy, pick up 6 cans of Turbo-G and head on down to the ‘mount.

Sandymount Green is a cute, triangular-shaped park in the middle of Sandymount village. It is a bit of a thoroughfare for the locals and despite its smallness, it always seems to be full of people, playing mini soccer games or taking a stroll. Bit of a hang out zone for the mothers’ clubs and kindy gatherings.
