Great selection of cool looking bikes, awesome looking store, top notch accessories and friendly and very knowledgeable staff.
I actually only came here to buy a lock, but ended up browsing the store for a good 15 minutes. Probably the first place I’ll look when it’s time to buy a new bike.

Ive been going here for decades now and the guys are great, really nice and friendly to deal with. Ive been going so long I get little discounts here and there. They reward customer loyalty. They do a great job at servicing bikes and dont charge ridiculous rates. You can tell theyre doing something right if they can afford to double the size of their shop and the amount of staff they have. I always feel welcome here and get a good deal on either new or 2^nd hand bikes.

I’ve been coming here for my bikes and repairs for 20 years. Great service — fast, honest. Will find a second hand bike to fit your budget and have wonderful range of new bikes. I’ve turned up at 6.30pm with an urgent puncture or broken chain and they always take care of me

Have bought 2 bikes here and have had them serviced regularly. great service, nice bunch of lads and my bike is always ready when they say it will be. Reasonably priced and great advice on what to get depending on usage. not just out for a quick buck.

had used Penny farthing for years, bought many bikes from them. Have stopped using them now, as they seem to be rip off merchants. Brought in my bike to have a new inner tube put in as i had a puncture (and cant do it myself), they replaced it, but by the time i got home (10 minutes later) it was flat. I knew i had not gone over any glass. called my male friend to have a look, and the inner tube they had put in was for a much bigger wheel, they had folded it over and pumped it up!
when i brought it back they denied it, saying that could not be possible, but my friend who is a genius at these things assures me it was. They charged me again for the inner tube. Now go elsewhere for all servicing, and when i need another bike i will pay more and go somewhere else. Staff are rude!

Five star service from Peny Farthing on my high nelly which now cycles liek a dream about town. Lovely staff and reasonably priced service and bikes. Would definitely recommend!

I get my bike serviced here a lot because that’s where I bought it and it’s local but I’ve decided not to go in there anymore. The guys in there are not friendly at all, they leave you waiting for the bike and don’t chat to you at all, despite the fact I’ve been walking in there with a smile on my face for over a year & a half now. They sold me lights that were faulty and when I went back 3 days later to explain they were broken I was asked «what do you want me to do about it?» They gave me replacement lights but you could tell they were not happy about it, telling me that someone was messing with the lights and that’s why they broke. I either had them on my bike when i was cycling or in my bag — nobody was messing with them!
Zero customer service skills, other than that they have good accesories at a decent enough price but won’t be going back there again due to the poor customer service. I unserstand that you are busy dealing with someone else but a simple nod to say «I’ll be with you in a moment» — even to acknowledge your presence instead of leaving you standing waiting like a plank wondering if they do see you there with a big bike in front of them!

I bought my bicycle here last summer. A good friend of mine recommended them. The price was reasonable so I was kitted out with lovely bike & lots of accessories & paid outright (no bike to work scheme). They didn’t have a helmet that fit so even though I’d paid for it I said I’d come by again for it when it arrives in stock. So far so good.
On the way out and happy with my shiny new bike, like a 9 year old boy on Christmas Day — I noticed the middle aged lady who worked there actually berate a similar aged customer, an Indian fellow who was looking to get his bike back from puncture repair. «Are you like this at home with your wife?» «Your not in India now love» The lady bellowed across the full store to the fellow who had very little English. It was an ugly scene & I felt really bad for the guy. It didn’t bode well for customer service…
I popped back a couple of times over the next couple of months whenever I was in the area (I live across the city) with my receipt & credit note to see if the helmets were in yet. Each time I spoke to the same tall guy with glasses who sold me the bike & many accessories in the first instance — whose manner now that he had my money had changed from knowledgeable but taciturn & helpful to a very aggressive & arrogant manner. Each time he ruffled my feathers more in his attitude. I was told «next week — next week» the helmet would arrive. He’s like a plumber or an electrician or car mechanic who instead of trying to be helpful to you tries to belittle you because your knowledge of his industry is not up to scratch and even though he never did very well in school — well now he’s going to show you just how smart he is!
A 3^rd time I went just to see if the helmet had arrived — it hadn’t (my 4^th time in the store). I decided instead to use the credit note to buy other accessories as I was a bit fed up with the wait. Unfortunately I didn’t bring my receipt/​credit note with me. And despite this being the 4^th time I spoke to the tall angry sneering man regarding the same helmet/​credit note — he refused to serve me without it!
My girlfriend was looking for a bicycle and asked me where I got mine. I mentioned the penny farthing so she wanted to pop in to have a look. I thought I’d bring my bike in for it’s free service (to my horror I noticed it was past it’s date!) I thought that if I was bringing in someone to buy a new bike with me — they would honour this. Just avoid Mr aggressive and seek another assistant. Sound strategy? Right? Wrong!
We got there and oh dear, Mr tall & angry he’s the only one on! Sigh… So I mentioned my girlfriend wanted to avail of the back to work bike scheme yada yada and also also any chance of the now phantom helmet? What’s that you say? Next week eh? Hmmm. Well striking while the iron was hot I asked about my bike servicing. He checked my receipt & quickly rounded on me that it was out of date — giving me abuse in front of my girlfriend. I stood my ground and told him I was very busy & had forgotten — but I was sure he’d honour it. After much muttering he did. My girlfriend at this point was down the other end of the shop. «I had to walk away» she said «He was so rude I was afraid I was going to lose the plot with him! I’m certainly not buying a bicycle from these guys!»
Thus ends a cautionary tale of a man working with people — with no people skills. It’s irony on a base level.

My favourite thing about this bikeshop is the name. «Penny Farthing» conjures up images of those lovely old, really heavy black bicycles with the sprung leather seats, curved handlebars and massive baskets on the front. The bike I currently cahort about town on is a replica of such a bike, and I would love to own an original. Unfortunately this shop stocks really modern bikes with really high pricetags, but it is a good place to go if you have a good bit of money to spend on a good quality new bike, as they have a great selection of mountain and road bikes, and as the previous two reviewers have mentioned, the staff are really friendly too. This seems to be an unusual trait amongst bikeshop staff, who often have an «I-​know-​much-​more-​about-​bikes-​than-​you-​what-​are-​you-​doing-​in-​here-​anyway» kind of attitude.
Penny Farthing would be a good place to start if you are looking to buy a bike as part of the Bike to Work scheme, and they also stock a small selection of second hand bikes.

Back home in the states, my bike is one of my prized possessions. In fact, it isn’t even really a possession in my mind; more like an extension of my body. I ride everywhere, barring some nights I know are going to be wild and I don’t feel like killing myself in a drunk-​biking accident. You can get a DUI for operating a bike while intoxicated you know.
Since moving to Ireland, I have been dreaming of the day I find the perfect bike to zoom around the city on. Until that day comes, I like to dreamily wander through Penny Farthing, checking out the merch. They have a bike to suit all types, from retro-​y contraptions with baskets on the front, to rugged mountain bikes, to my personal love, road bikes. The prices are high though, and it doesn’t seem like they have too many budget options, which saddens me a great deal. Still, if you have several hundred euros to throw at a bike, Penny Farthing is a great place to check out. And if you do buy a bike and the seat gets stolen or a car hits it and bends the wheel to bits, they can repair anything in a flash. The staff is really helpful and asked all my questions even though I said I wasn’t going to buy anything (I have a habit of saying shit like that for no reason).

In an area with a few competing bicycle shops, Penny Farthing is in my opinion the best.
Really wide range of bikes, from the standard mountain bikes and those ubiquitous road bikes that all the public service workers are snapping up through the cycle to work scheme, up to the slimline racers and fixies, Penny Farthing has everything for the novice as well as the seasoned pro.
And the staff are really friendly and helpful, when I went there looking for a type of stem that they didn’t have, they were extremely helpful and suggested other shops that might have it.
Not quite as broad a range as Cycleways (which is also definitely better for parts), but in terms of friendliness of service and helpfulness of staff, Penny Farthing is for my money the best bike shop in the city centre

Penny Farthing’s bicycles, is part of the fabric of Dublin, located in the South Inner City just before DEVITT’s pub. Its name conjures up images of bicycles from other eras or the nineteenth century and it truly is a cyclist’s dream. Has a great selection of racing bikes, mountain bikes etc, really economically priced; always believes in selling quality bicycles with staff who know their stuff; not only the bits and pieces, as regards the components of a good bike, accessories etc but also the science of cycling itself. These guys are whizz kids!
