Best bicycle shop around for sales, repairs and servicing. Pauline and Keith who work here are really genuine people who know their stuff. All repairs/servicing are carried out in a timely manner at a reasonable cost. Small repairs, fixing punctures, replacing tubes etc are often carried out immediately. There is a wide range of bicycles, cycling equipment and accessories in the shop. Anything not specifically in the shop can be quickly and easily ordered in, arriving within a matter of days. I purchased my last bike here and after chatting with the guys and receiving expert advice a bike was ordered to my specifications which I’m extremely happy with. I’ve no hesitation in recommending this shop to anyone. Excellent service all round and far better value for money to be had than larger cycling shops.

Where other places charge you out the ear, P&K will ask you for half their price or less, and do it with a smile and courtesy you won’t find anywhere else– and respect. That’s all there is to it. A place near the canal asked me for close to € 70 for a pair of waterproof pants, and P&K gave me pants that tick all the boxes for € 15. They block the rain and they have snaps at the ankles to keep them from catching in the chains. Just last week, a shop on the north side did me the courtesy of informing me my wheel had two broken spokes. They wanted € 65 to replace it(55 for the wheel and 10 for the labour), then told me my bike wouldn’t be worth replacing the wheel for.(Thanks, guys.) I brought it in to P&K later that day, and they told me it’d be well worth it. They asked for € 35 for a new wheel and the labour, had it done in just over an hour, and oiled the gears and tightened the brakes while they were at it. My bike rides like a dream. They just moved to a new location three doors down which is bigger, and the lady in charge informed me I’d have to bring cash as the credit card machine’s not set up yet in the new digs. Extra points for that courtesy– you’d think it’s common sense, but I know better nowadays.

I like P&K Cycles, my local bike shop which recently moved a few doors down. They’re constantly cheaper than the bike shop close to my work, they tell you upfront how much everything costs, bike service is cheap there and they tell you exactly when it will be ready(when you bring it in at four in the afternoon they say with a sad face«it will be only tomorrow though»). The guys are super-friendly and professional, and I don’t feel like a stupid person who can’t repair his own bike(although I am) when I go in here.

Very recently, I saw Guards walking up and down Rathmines Road, a very busy bike and road corridor. They were stopping bikers that weren’t wearing reflective vests. I even saw them asking a woman who had a safety vest on and they told her that it wasn’t up to standard. The point taken is that safety should be your number one priority. P&K cycles has the brightest selection of reflective vests I’ve ever seen. They even have hot pink, a nice change from the usual fluorescent yellow! Someone would have to be wearing a blindfold not to notice you!

You’re rushing up Patrick Street on the way into town but suddenly your bike chain becomes loose. Fear not. C&P offer same-day repairs. Bring in your bike, go for a coffee and a walk around the area, pick it up a little later and peddle on. They also sell bikes and biking accessories like the neon vests everyone should wear now while it’s pitch dark outside. Safety first!

I’ve been going here for my repairs for years. They’re super-speedy, really inexpensive, and have always fixed the problem right first time. And unlike certain other shops you don’t need to book a week in advance to get a repair done… For accessories: often when buying accessories, cycle shops will try to upsell you to more expensive gadgets you don’t need. Not a problem here; I’ve always found they’ve been happy to sell me the right equipment for the job, and in one case were quite happy to take back a pannier bag in exchange for a less expensive, but more practical alternative. Definitely the best cycle shop in Dublin by miles, if you ask me.
