O’Neills Victorian Pub & Townhouse

Service extremely slow, staff cold and unwelcoming wouldn’t kill them to smile or at least say hello. Over priced pub with no charm what so ever. Will not be returning and I would advise others to not go there

To my very American sensibilities, O’Neills is the quintessential Irish pub. Dark woods, long polished par, warm hearth, O’Neills serves up libations and good pub fare with a smile and swagger.
Well the swagger might have been mine after I knocked a few back.
This establishment being next to our Dublin office, has been a staple for years and with my first visit I can see why.
Thumbs up from me.

We loved O’Neills! Not only did we stay here for two nights, we also dined and drank here a couple nights.
The Stay: The rooms were well-​kept and spacious. The shower had great water pressure (could stand to be a little bigger). Two windows allowed cool air to blow in at night. The rooms could get a bit warm during the day in August as there was no A/​C, but we weren’t in them long. You also need to be a heavy sleeper as you are right on the main street, so it’s a great location but noisy. Overall, very clean, very friendly staff and great location.
The Dining: We order fish and chip and shrimp scampi. The fish and CHIPs were the best we had the entire time we were in Ireland. The fish tasted fresh and was cooked wonderfully. It had a nice tempura like crust. The chips were piping hot and crisp. The shrimp scampi was a bit different than what I am used to. It was basically a fried shrimp, but it had a nice heavy, golden brown batter.
The Drinking: They have great G&T’s (Gin and Tonic), they also had some decent wines. The bar tender was very nice and helpful.
Overall, Gerry and Huey were amazing. Super helpful throughout our stay and eager to please. I would stay here again just because of them.

Having been here a number of times I can say with some confidence that the service is consistently cold and unwelcoming. And the prices! € 9 for a G&T, € 1.50 for a packet of crisps. Don’t bother with the carvery if you’re a vegetarian, I was charged € 7.50 for some oven chips, coleslaw and limp, unexciting salad. There are no vegetarian options, how very 1978! On two occasions I was left waiting at the counter for the best part of five minutes as the bar tender had no interest in taking my order. They get bums in seats as there are hardly any food options on this long grey stretch of Pearse Street. I’d walk another 10 minutes toward Chaplins for a toastie and friendly service before I’d pay for so much as a drink here. Poor food selection, poor service. Totally unimpressed!

One of the best pub lunch’s in town… lasagne is perhaps the best i’ve tasted (highly recommended). Other solid choices are the chicken kiev and the roast, soup of the day is generally very good. Salad bar attached to the main food hub helps make you feel less guilt eating a delectable lasagne. Very good selection of whiskeys and some very nice draft beers. Guinness ⁸⁄₁₀

Went on a whim and loved it. Great décor, nice and cozy in places and roomy enough for large groups in others. I got the stew (beef, potato, carrot) — delicious! I’d come here again for special occasions, but it’s too expensive for normal meals. (€ 14 for stew, € 19 for steak, around € 6 for starters.)

Spent one night at O’Neills before catching the morning ferry to England. We chose the O’Neills for it’s location as it’s across the street from Trinity College, within walking distance of the Temple Bar District, and a 10 minute taxi ride from the port. Rooms were clean and surprisingly roomy, bathroom was clean, beds were average. When we arrived it was a Bank Holiday so the pub was closed, which was disappointing, but certainly not the owner’s fault. Breakfast is NOT included. Overall, I’d recommend it to anyone needing a clean, reasonably priced place to stay in Dublin.

Very decent pub with a the widest selection of beers I’ve ever seen. For the price you pay you get great food. Prices for main dishes are from 11,95. Awesome pub if you want to have a quick pint, something to eat and watch a game!

We may not have a completely accurate picture of O’Neils. We checked in on the Saturday right before Christmas. Check-​in is at the bar. There is no front desk. There are also no phones in the rooms. The bar was nice, very charming. But it was closed on Sunday and we couldn’t get any assistance with our room. There was literally nobody around. They didn’t clean the room on the Sunday and we didn’t have any new towels for the second day. Admittedly, it was a holiday weekend so they might not have been at their best. But we would’ve liked to have been informed before hand of that circumstance.

Great Pub with actually really good food! The chicken fingers had a delicious chili sauce over them and were served with a fresh salad with peppers, tomatoes, cucumber, and a light dressing. The chicken and leek pie was very tasty also. They pour a great pint of Guinness, and the décor is exactly what you’d want to experience, little corners to sit, dim lighting, interesting framed pictures on the walls. We came here both days that we were in Dublin, it’s a nice central location and not as crazy as right in Temple Bar.

Great Dublin pub with loads of areas and an indoor courtyard. I love this place for an evening out in Dublin. Always buzzy and a classic Dublin pub :-)

Not to be confused with the other O’Neill’s on Suffolk Street. Located on Pearse Street, it’s just outside the insanity of the Temple Bar/​Grafton Street area and conveniently situated between both the Tara St & Pearse St DART stations. Visited on a Wednesday early evening where it seemed to be a quiet crowd of regulars. Two stools were open right at the bar and my wife and I were given a nice greeting by the bartender. Only stayed for a pint, wish we could have stayed longer and relaxed in one of the cozy nooks that surrounded the bar. Maybe I was really thirsty, but the Guinness was ONE OF THE BEST I’ve tasted since beginning my time in Ireland. I’ve been keeping count since I arrived this June; I hit Guinness #75 at O’Neills. They have free WIFI, just ask the bartender.

One of my favourite pubs in dublin, which reminds me I must re-​visit soon!
Its very relaxing, and they have open fires (most of the year), the food is alright as pub food goes, but the pint of Guinness is generally of a high standard.
Great place for a pint and a chat with friends!

Showed up at the door and they were on lock down. Pub was closed. This was on a Saturday at 2 in the afternoon. We had booked a room on expedia a month prior so rang the townhouses. Twice. Someone answered the door and told us that «sorry, we overbooked. We set you up at the Lombardo down the street.» I’ve read this happening to others on here as well. Would it have been to hard to email/​text us to let us know? And they weren’t too sure how to remedy the expedia billing and having to pay at the new joint. Lombardo’s was nice and they didn’t put us out.

It’s a nice pub with some rooms for the B&B en suite accommodation. The rooms are nice furnished, at least one with a fireplace and comes with toilet and shower. The breakfast is Irish with an offer for vegetarians.
The pub is a nice pub which also visited by locals.
The accommodation can be loud in the night because in the Pearse Street is also a frequented road in the night.

Nice city boozer, with table service and food to 8:30 or so. Popular for a Friday evening pint but generally not so busy that you can’t get a seat.

I stayed here in May — and what a lovely little B&B that sits over a little pub. The price was very good and included a yummy breakfast of your choice. Also, location was just a 5 minute walk to Grafton Street and Temple Bar. Though, if you walk slow like me — 10 to 15 minutes in both directions. My only complaint was the noise of the traffic outside the window of the room. But — hey for the price and size of room — there really is not much to complain about. Bonus — free wifi inside the room.

Where to go for Arthurs day was the discussion amongst our group. Sometims too many cooks can spoil the broth as they say and it takes a person to just made a decision. I said we are going to O Neills as it ticks the boxes, its nearby, its near trains and buses for people to get home and it was wheel chair friendly and it served a good pint of Guinness. Having been here a few times before and having always enjoyed the pint and atmosphere here, I was confident it would be a good choice.
We arrived about half five, soaked to the bone as another torrential rain shower hit Dublin for about 10 minutes. We were all drinking Guinness which was reduced from 4.50 to 4 euro for Arthurs Day. I later found out that many other pubs were giving away free drink or bigger reductions than this.
The banter was good amongst our gang with plenty of slagging and winding up etc. A tray of finger food was passed around the pub, but if you blinked the tray was travelling quicker than Usain Bolt. I felt that they could have provided more food for the customers and the reduction on pints for the day, while being a nice gesture did not match many of the other nearby pubs
Having said that, the place was buzzing without being uncomfortably packed. The crowd was a mainly office workers and some tourists.
O Neills is a good pub to meet for a few after work pints and the bar staff are friendly and efficient. Normally I would give it 4 stars but for its efforts for Arthurs day I think I will have to deduct a star :)

There is nothing particularly special with this pub. The food is typically fried and the drink is fine but I really like the atmosphere which is why it is my local.
You can reserve sections of the pub. That is really helpful for parties and get togethers.
