Intermission At Brooks

OMG I have something fun to share here: D
Last night I was meeting a friend — Irish from Dublin — and I mentioned Unilocal,how awesome it is to be part of the Unilocal Elite Squad and be treated like we are. A dream !
And then I mentioned our last screening at Brooks. I told him everything in detail about the event, how amazing the venue was, how tasty the food, and fun the overall experience. And then I talked about the movie.
Me: You know the movie with the brown sauce!
Him: The brown sauce?
Me: Come on, you know… The tea and the Sauce.
Him: Oh wait…
Me: InterMission !
Him: Oh yes that’s right. Did you like it?
Me: I did. As a matter of fact I tried it.
Him: Whaaaaaaat? No you didn’t? (he nearly died laughing here)
Me: Yes, we left with a mug, some Barry’s tea, and HP sauce. And the next day I had tea and sauce for breakfast.
Him: (His face cannot be described. He looked disgusted and was laughing at the same time)
Me: It wasn’t that bad at all !
Him: Yeah *quoting the movie* It’s feckin delicious !
In the end he promised to try it with me. And I will take a picture when that happens ! Defo: D

A great event with brilliant hosting! We arrived to finger food, whiskey cocktails and whiskey truffles served in the hotel’s bar by friendly staff while we mingled.
The cinema itself is located downstairs and is kitted out with comfortable leather seats with a foldaway table to hold your drinks. Before the film we were treated to some fun trivia about the film by our hostess Lesley.
The cinema seats 26 so would be perfect for a team night out or a bigger night out with friends to watch classic movies. We were treated to popcorn and jellies.
I’ll need to pay more attention to their listings as they show seasonal classics like Die Hard and It’s a Wonderful Life around Christmas. Need to get myself on the waiting list for the latter!
After the event Lesley shared the recipe for the whiskey truffles with us which was a lovely touch. Will be trying those out for Christmas! (Why am I already talking about Christmas so much?! It’s barely September!)

Wow, we’re a spoiled bunch!
This was just the perfect way to finish the day. We were greeted with fresh whiskey sours and plenty of finger food (nobody was expecting so much food, apparently, but we didn’t mind). The whiskey truffles were very rich but not overly sweet, just perfect.
After this small reception we went to the small cinema downstairs, where we could pick up popcorn at the entrance. It was also nice to find a sweets bag on each of the large and comfy seats. And if this wasn’t enough, you could alway’s pick up a drink from the bar upstairs and bring it with you to the small table on your seat.
I’d never seen the movie, Intermission, so I was very curious about all the brown sauce talk… and the movie didn’t disappoint, it was a great pick!
When we left Emily was waiting for us with the goodie bags and they were genius, the punchline of the evening.
It was simply a great night, I left with a broad smile on my face. It’s nice to be Elite!

Blinder of an event! It’s a lovely venue with some really pleasant staff, and triple decker sandwiches, TRIPPLE! Intermission is one of my favourite irish movies, and it was a comfy and cute setting to watch it, with a slightly lethal gin cocktail in hand. It got a good schedule of upcoming movies, and is available for private hire, if ya wanna feel fancy while watching a movie of your choice!

I was unaware of this place until the event. Great movie, and beautiful little cinema

«Well you’re no Tom Selleck, but…» Ha!
Welcomed with a hefty Whiskey Sour and friendly smiles all round, we were fed better than an Irish mammy. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it too. I wish I hadn’t eaten before hand, oh well.
Down the stairs we were given more stuff to eat, this time jellies and popcorn. Settled in, the cinema is comfortable and intimate. Each seat has a small fold out table to put your drink on, how cool is that!
The movie was excellent, like most people here, I’d seen it before — twice! But that didn’t take away from the experience. Intermission is great for a laugh and full of memorable quotes. I can’t believe its 11 years old though — yikes!
When leaving we were all given cool goodie bags ( Unilocal bags at that) which contained teabags, brown sauce and a Unilocal mug. Fantastic.
Events and goodie bags like these are part of what makes being Elite awesome!
An excellent night of drink, food and cinema at the Brooks Hotel. Thanks Emily and the nice folks at Brooks, another stellar event.

The evening was definitely a success, the staff is amazing and the food was delish. It was my second screening there and both times i have found it very cold. That would literally be my only complaint.

Ok, so I was expecting a great Unilocal event, which consisted of a drink, truffles, movie and popcorn.
Got those. And more…
Wow, I didn’t imagine in my wildest dreams earlier in the day, that I would be treated to such hospitality and fine cuisine from the Brooks Hotel.
I was greeted by the lovely staff and immediately offered a lovely whiskey cocktail. And I saw yummy sandwiches at the table. I didn’t realise though that this was just the beginning.
For a good half an hour or so we were offered lovely steak and sausages (I didn’t really go through the pork stuff), big chunky chips and then those rich and whiskey infused truffles. All topped off with lovely service by the staff and great conversation with Quentin D.
Then movie time. I’ve actually see Intermission a few times now. I think I even own the dvd, but it’s a classic. Love it. Loved the popcorn and jellies to go with.
Thanks Emily for a great evening, yet again. As well as the goody bag. The mug works!

Being an Elite is great — not just because you get to do really freakin cool things, eat fine foods, or be introduced to great places in Dublin, but because the sense of community, friendship and just plain old coolness of likeminded people.
Intermission at Brooks is a fine example of exactly this, and what a fine example of a private cinema it is too. Amazing nibbles beforehand, whiskey sour cocktails, really friendly staff, cosy seats, yummy salty popcorn, chewy fizzy sweets, whiskey truffles — what’s not to like. Most of us had seen the movie before but that didn’t matter one bit.
I loved this cinema and I want one in my house. In fact I have one on order. But just in case my cheque bounces, I’ll keep my eye out on the really good line up of upcoming movies in Brooks Cinema Club, grab 25 of my closest friends and have a great night.

Fantastically great for Indie film lover heads, doing something different heads, and, I want to watch a movie and sit in a seat that looks and feels like I’m piloting the Starship Enterprise heads! Beam me up Scotty!

Well, this was one event that went waay above and beyond my expectations!
I was anticipating a glass of whiskey, a few truffles and some Irish movie that I’d never seen before but had heard was a bit whacky. but jayyzus we got was so much more than that!
Ample platters of food, Whiskey Sour cocktails (my fav, Emily how did you know?), some oh-​so-​sinfully decadent whiskey truffles, and that was all before we even went downstairs to the screening!
Maybe this was just me being «a fookin thickow», but I did not expect to be treated to such an array of treats (more treats awaited us in the film room, and then we got a goodiebag after too? Ohh she’s a good’un, she is.)
Shout-​out to the peeps at Brookes Hotel too, they were sound as a pound.

That night was, like, so sweet… as they say in the states.
There was a great spread put on by Brooks Hotel. The whiskey sour cocktail was a great start to the evening and I could of had a bucket of those truffles :-D The cinema is great, big comfy seats with lots of leg room and a little table for my beer. And what of the film? Classic Dublin humour, I love it!

What a night! I absolutely loved the cinema and the movie!
Private cinema? A full whiskey bar with more than a 100 to choose from? (And yes you can take your drinks with you as you sit on those luxurious leather seats)
I must be in whiskheaven!
Delicious food and a private screening experience you and your friends can enjoy! Now that’s a perfect night!
I love how If you’re not in the mood to book, or just don’t have enough people, they screen movies every other week.
Surely the lovely staff will take very good care of you!

Judging by my hangover I had a really good night last night.
It was a very unexpected turn of events. So much food all really nice, free cocktails which were amazing. A really cool cinema with amazing seats, showing a great film I hadn’t seen before.
Add to this popcorn, sweets and great customer service.
The hotel itself was really nice inside as well and the menu looked great for the restaurant. I had a quick peak while I was in there.
Another great elite event, Emily us doing the biz in Dublin I think we would all agree.

I don’t get to go elite events very often, when I do they rarely if ever disappoint — Intermission At Brooks was no exception, I’d go a bit further and say it was one of the best events to date… it has set the bar incredibly high for the future!
From the moment we arrived, greeted as we were by cocktails and incredibly tasty nibbles to when we sat down in the oh so very plush mini cinema, we were treated like royalty.
I had a ball; I loved the movie, thoroughly enjoyed the food and cocktails and as for the company? well, they are always the best bit! — I spent a lot of time eating things with Liat F, we agreed that the only thing that would have made the evening better was if we could take some of the Brooks staff home to continue feeding us in the manner we had just become accustomed to.
A HUGE thank you to Emily and Brooks, it was a memorable eve!

Gonna be controversial and only give four stars! It was a great night with whiskey cocktails and lovely canapes put on by the friendly staff… Oh and love love love the movie.
I may have unfairly compared Brooks cinema club to that of Electric Cinema in London, where you can kick back in proper plush armchairs with foot stools and solid side tables, there were also sofas available for couples. The movie is also screened cinema style rather than through a overhead projector. The experience in Brooks was still great, but it feels less special (for lack of a better adjective).
So therefore, to be a true honest Unilocaler, I have to dock a point for the movie experience after living it up in London before. I still had oodles of fun though and it makes for an alternative midweek evening out in future! :-)

Staff were lovely, food was delish! What more can I say other than a thumbs up! Thanks for the goodie bag, it was a lovely gesture.

Another great event organised by Emily! Staff at Brooks we’re very welcoming and that whiskey cocktail packed a strong but delicious punch, the nibbles were also very much appreciated!
Intermission is a classic and it was a fantastic way to watch it. The bag of goodies at the end gave me a good laugh and I’m sure we’ll all be trying brown sauce in our tea tonight!
Only con I have of the night is that the air con was very cold in the screening room. But honestly it was a fantastic night all in all and great to meet some fellow Unilocalers!

Who would have known there is a Whiskey Bar in the Brooks Hotel? I didn’t know that, but will definitely go and try it out.
Plus I have to go back for these chocolate truffles!

How else would you get a chance of getting such a combination on one evening?
First a very warm welcome from the Brooks hotel with whiskey sour, whiskey truffle and other lovely tasters like spicy pork, beef, sausages and chips that were the chunkiest I’ve ever seen and still tasted good.
Then downstairs into their private cinema with comfy chairs and proper legroom — not often that I have enough space. And more little treats.
And to try the quality of the cinema there was Intermission on. I hadn’t seen it before and definitely wouldn’t have been able to get it shortly after I moved here. But now it was brilliant.
And to finish off we now can try the famous intermission drink at home in our own Unilocal cup.
