Headed here after a mate of mine said you can have a good craic dancing to cheesy 90s songs… totally in. Firstly we arrived about 1am(am guessing) no cover charge or any of that you would get to go to some places like diceys or coppers. so think that is class. The place was heaving with people, so if you don’t like busy then don’t go here on a friday night. The smoking area is massive and there are loads of places to sneak a table to rest your pint on. The place is quite large, but didn’t really seem to be a central dance floor. We kind of ended up dancing somewhere that seemed to always been in the walkway of people. But the music was sound and was the cheesy music you know and love when you are quite well intoxicated. The drink prices were surprisingly not expensive either. With a pint costs about a 5iver. Overall I quite liked this place, but i wouldn’t go not intoxicated — because well everyone else is and drinks are being spilled, stolen/borrowed/slurring is about and yes, the grabbing by men does occur. But we had a good laugh, definitely wear light clothing as it gets roasting hot.

LOVE Flannery’s! Great spot for a beer in the afternoon. Awesome space too! It’s got a good feel about it … Open, Clean, Inviting. Great tunes too. Love it for a casual afternoon on a decent day. You just want to hang out here with friends. The tunes will have you singing along while you’re sipping your beer… Cheers! They’re playing my favorite song!

Was ok but not the place for me. Don’t like that type of music at all and the crowd were quite messy. I can see student appeal however.

What is this, Coppers’ younger brother? It’s a weird pub/club with really loud music, overpacked and not impressive. It reminded me of Coppers in so many ways. Two guys talked to me and my friend, and they were garda, and that the only people who go to that pub are teachers, nurses or garda. I saw one of the reviews here said the same thing, which I think is funny. It isn’t a bad place, it’s just… not a great place to be.

I feel like I need to preface this particular review by explaining that I’m American. So I don’t really get the culchie/city divide I’m getting in some of these Dublin Unilocal reviews. And reading other reviews, I’m starting to feel weirdly defensive about how much fun I had at Flannery’s. I’m going to power through though and be honest, even if you locals think that this place is the lamest. Because I had a really great night here. I went with a group of friends — all girls — and we spent the whole evening sitting in the beer garden and chatting and dancing. The beer garden is GORGEOUS. It’s huge and — I think — climate-controlled, and it’s all exposed wooden beams and brick walls. It’s really the perfect beer garden, with the spaciousness and the relaxed buzz that all beer gardens strive for. So I went on a gorgeous warm evening — I wore a sleeveless top! in Dublin! unprecedented! — and there was beer and fun dance-y music and friends, so I had a fabulous time. I’m not sure how much I can add to that. That’s a good formula.(And, okay, in the spirit of full disclosure, I don’t remember ALL the specifics of the evening. There was a bit of over-imbibing involved.) Flannery’s closed at 2:30, I believe, which I think is normal for Dublin — maybe even a smidge late for a pub? The bartenders were friendly and fast enough, and I think the prices were standard. Why not five stars? Well, there’s some truth to the whole meat-market stereotype about Flannery’s. Some rather eager men.(Who, to their credit, were also very eager to buy me & friends drinks — so there’s something to be said for that, at least.) But still, I think any popular pub that attracts a young crowd will have some overly eager men, so Flannery’s still gets a solid four-star rating from me.

Oh to be young again. I went here on a Monday. And on a monday, by 12 O’Clock, the place was jointed with people in their late-teens/early twenties dressed up to the nines & boogying to the latest, awful pop music. Sure, it was just a bit of craic, and Flannery’s certainly has a fantastic beergarden/outside pub thingy.

An absolute shitehole meatmarket to be avoided at all costs. Unless you’re the type of person(guard, nurse or teacher) who likes shite music and coppers. This is sort of like the pre club coppers pub. Tends to get really overcrowded and has queues outside for some strange reason, usually the night of a gaa game!

I’ve been in here a few times and feel it leaves a lot to be desired. The drinks are pretty overpriced and the staff are generally unhelpful

I had the misfortune of spending an hour in this utter dump. The Saw Doctors soundtrack and the GAA jersies on the wall I can forgive but the € 5 charge for a can of red bull is insane. The staff had a take it or leave it attitude so I will most definitely leave it in future.

My drink was not awful this time! Also, the bartender was attentive(I asked a question and instead of just making the drink she answered). Everything else was the same – packed in most areas except for half the 1st floor and standard music.

Flannerys, without a doubt one of the busiest pubs in Dublin. Sometimes I love this place but yet I can’t bring myself to come here more than once a month. To put it simply, you know what you’re going to get with this place. It’ll be packed and everyone will be up for a great night out. The music isn’t the best and is mainly repetitive but they’re the kind of tracks that you love when you’re drunk so nobody seems to care. This bar is incredibly popular so it’s better to get there around 10ish and grab a spot near the end of the main bar or by the dancefloor out the back — the queue on a busy night can contain up to a hundred people and operates on a one out one in system. I’ve never really cared for the upstairs section though but it can be a good place to escape the mayhem downstairs. It’s open till 2 or half 2 but some people leave around 12ish and head off down the alleyway to Coppers for more shenanigans. The staff here definitely deserve an honorable mention. Considering how busy they are every night, the bar staff are great and the bouncers must be the calmest people in the city.

I walked past here on Saturday night before the All Ireland Final, it was only about 9pm and the queue was already down the street and around the corner of the Fresh Supermarket. The lads were all wearing stripey shirts, the girls fake-tanned to the max with vertiginous stilettos and tiny miniskirts, and everyone seemed hammered already. Says a lot about the place really. I haven’t been for a pint in here in years, as the few times I did visit the place I was pushed, shoved and witness to several fights breaking out amongst a few young rapscallions. A dive though it may be, its a perenially popular place and packed every weekend, though in my opinion, best avoided. There are far better watering holes along this street.

Was in Flannery’s for the first time ever last night and it was dead. OK so it was a Wednesday night and it was quite early, I got there at 9pm, but where was everybody? Is it really that unusual to go out drinking on a Wednesday night during a recession? The pub itself is nicely laid out with lots of floor space and old style wooden furniture and cool album covers as decoration. There is a large outdoor smoking area but it was raining last night so I don’t know if they had not put out the furniture as it looked really sparse and dull and drab. The music was alright, not too loud and not to crap and they had a really big screen showing Italian football. However, a vodka and splash of white lemonade was 5.30euro! Robbery! I left by 11pm and the place was picking up but still pretty dead!

Ah Flannery’s…what a place. I have very much a love/hate relationship with Flannery’s. It is definitely a culchie spot and an absolute must to go to before you hit up coppers — you can expect the exact same great. I’ve had great nights in here, and I’ve had absolutely crap nights here. It really does depend on the particular crowd. I didn’t really like it in college, but the last few times I’ve gone I’ve loved it. I was here for a staff night out on Wednesday, hardly a busy night if you are in a work-going crowd, and we arrived at about 1130 to a pretty empty pub. But about 40 mins later, it was jammed and the place was great craic! It’s just a good, country pub. Warning though — LOTS of drunken men! Oh, and I would avoid this place on Gaa match days, it’ll be jammers!

Flannery’s is a bit of craic but it’s also a bit messy of a weekend. It’s usually packed with country kids and their Dublin mates boogeying, flirting and falling all over the floor. It’s always rammed at the weekend and a lot of work parties seem to wind up here on the last stage of their crawl. Although there’s a dance floor at the back for bopping, playing light chart music, Flannery’s feels less like a nightclub and more like an overgrown late bar. If you’re feeling the heat downstairs then wander on up to the second floor where there’s a bit of breathing room but no less pollutedness. It’s fun for the tipsy but If you go there, be prepared to queue and interpret slurred country-speak!

Essentially, some of the culchies from Rathmines found Quinns in Drumcondra a little too much of a commute, and weren’t quite in the mood for Coppers, and thus Flannery’s was born. One point of interest about Flannery’s is that it is yet to become gentrified in the manner that Coppers has in recent years: Flannery’s is still almost 100% pure-bred culchies. Sidle up to one of the young ones there and tell her that you have a bit of land, and she’s yours. Flannery’s is very similar in layout to its Drumcondra counterpart: like Quinns, it is quite small and unassuming from the outside, but is very long once you get in, with a smoking area at the back. Nice kind of synthesis between nightclub and pub atmosphere, good for those nights when you’re not sure what to do with yourself. Good for some shits and giggles, or if you’re a lady looking for a strapping young man with broad-shoulders and a crew cut. Metrosexual young men of Dublin: give the skinny jeans and the sister’s GHD a rest for the night, they don’t go in much for that kind of carry-on in Flannery’s.

Culchies love Flannery’s, they really do. The place is a magnet for Gards, nurses and primary school teachers. Some call it the Coppers of Camden Street. You’d want to like Ryan Adams to drink here, he’s on repeat, and don’t think that mohawk will impress anyone inside-ye look like a tick!

Back to Wexford street just outside Dublin’s city centre, a bar and club land all by itself. Flannerys is another one of its well visited and well known pubs. Flannerys is tardis like inside. The place looks small from the outside but goes back a long way. There’s another bar at the back, a beer garden, as well as ample room upstairs. Expect this place is be truly heaving at the weekends and gets a big crowd from outside Dublin a bit like Rody Bolands in Rathmines its always busy. Its great fun though and the word heaving was probably invented for Flannerys on a Saturday night as you’ll probably be carried along with the crowd inside.
