Bewley’s Cafe

I used to come to Bewley’s quite often, it’s such a pretty, quaint café.
I’ve eaten and had many coffees and hot chocolate here.
The top floor is a theatre, holding many different types of gigs — I saw Nina Nesbitt there once, it’s a very intimate venue, perfect for small gigs.
There’s always a really nice atmosphere in here, along with very pleasant staff and good music. Love it!

Café et restaurant immense organisé en plusieurs étages, il y a des spectacles organisés. Il y a toutes sortes de plats mais le vrai régal ici, ce sont les pâtisseries anglo-​saxonnes (cupcakes, carrot-​cakes, cheese cakes, etc…). Mais ce qui fait tout, c’est vraiment son coté chaleureux à l’abris des averses irlandaises.

A great place with a lovely and charming atmosphere with an Art Nouveau stained glassa a must see in Dublin. White and hot chocolates are delicious, so is the irish stew! Every friend that comes to visit me i bring here.

Selection of food is awful. It improved as CB Deli, but then reverted back to ways of old. It’s no wonder it’s closing.
Need to seriously look at menu. In this day & age, the expected standard is way above Bewleys ‘the national treasure’.
1 star for the coffee!

The interior of Bewleys has a lovely old world charm when you first walk in. We were seated straight away by a friendly member of staff but the evening went down hill from there. The seats themselves are velvet and definitely need a good wash and the toilets downstairs are in need of a major renovation. I am not surprised the café is soon closing for a refurb!
I ordered the superfood salad which I though sounded delish-​broccoli, chickpeas, peppers, french beans, carrots, cucumber, celery, raisins, lime juice, sea salt and extra virgin oil. There was no sign of any oil or lime juice. And the vegetables were cut up so small i struggled to pick them up with my fork. There was no dressing that I could taste. Only really small bits of raw vegetables. I ordered «cajun» chicken as an extra with the salad and that was a really bad decision. The chicken was so hard and dry it was such a let down and definitely no cajun seasoning.
The pot of tea I ordered was good and the girls enjoyed their wine otherwise I was less than impressed.

This place is truly beautiful inside and, in my modest opinion, they could have done a better job to enhance the décor and stuff. There’s a lot of potential in this place, exploit it! :D
Cakes and sweets are really good, try to sit over the window on Grafton to enjoy the view, better during the summer!
The place is HUGE, so it’s perfect for groups, especially the main area on the back.
I had also dinner over there and I can say it’s ok but the seafood chowder is not so good. They have a small selection in the menu, so don’t go there expecting something great.

Very nice seafood chowder to start with — lots of mussels and squid — very nice! Penne pasta with bacon and mushroom for main — really nice Gorgonzola sauce. All in all a very good meal with good service.

Came here for traditional Irish breakfast. Staff is very friendly and they have a nice little café/​bakery downstairs you can order goods if you choose not to dine in. Their bacon here is so good! Very different from what you find at home in the USA. Again huge portions of food and its all really good.

Been here many times but dropped in for my 87c coffee today on their 87^th birthday on grafton street
Really fantastic buzz in the place (as there always is) but more so today as everyone was finding out that’s their morning coffee was so cheap :)

It goes to show how long it’s been since I last ate lunch/​dinner in Bewley’s, as when I did the restaurant area was run by another (now defunct) Irish company Café Bar Deli. Unfortunately it would appear that since the change of hands back to Bewley’s management in the past few years, they’ve not maintained the level of food that they had back then.
I arrived after the lunch time rush, towards 3pm and the place was busy but not rammed. I was seated quickly but then left to wait for a long while while… not a great start. Service, suffice to say is haphazard but generally polite, with a few experienced staff trying to make up the shortfall of the newer obviously less experienced ones.
I eventually ordered the soup of the day and a «fresh tomato» bruschetta. The leek and potato soup tasted home made, and was nice but a little small for the price. The bruschetta wasn’t great, the fresh tomato of the menu looking like it had been prepped the day before, a little dry and wilted, the basil black rather than green as you’d expect. I couldn’t taste any garlic, just lots of the onion added to the tomato mix, the bread had been smeared with a parsley pesto of some kind and instead of olive oil on top there was vinegar… it was all a bit odd and lacking in care.
I’m one of the «I remember Bewley’s when…» folks and have fond memories of tea and cream buns as a treat through the 80s and 90s, and great random conversations with strangers over tea, I even attended the very last night before they closed down prior to being re-​bought in the early 2000s so it pains me a little to not be able to give more stars…
If you want tea and a scone, or soup with a slice of atmosphere (their high backed chairs are amazing and I wish they’d make and put more of them in, also the roaring fireplace is wonderful in the winter and the stained glass by Harry Clarke in the back room is beautiful)! then it’s a good bet and worth a visit (and I’d give three stars for that) — but maybe look elsewhere for better value food. I just wish the food matched the atmosphere. Come on Bewley’s do what you could do best, and get rid of the hoity toity on the menu, we’re in Dublin, not Italy.

while shopping in Dublin with a family member, we stopped here for a time out. We both had a burger and a very decent pint of beer. The food here is very good. The customer service on the day we were there could have been a little better. It seemed like they were overwhelmed but it didn’t appear to be that busy. For me, i was on my vacation so i’m already in a easy go mood and relaxed, so i didn’t mind the offness.

So this is probably one of those places that you think looks ok from the outside but turns out to basically be an almost chainy feeling restaurant with an average level of food.
I went for their full Irish breakfast which was 10 euros and had all the usual but the poached eggs were a bit hammered while most things to dry.
The staff were friendly enough but there must be a million tastier breakfasts out there somewhere in Dublin!

I can see why Bewley’s Café on Grafton Street is one of Europe’s most renowned coffee and tea emporiums. The coffee is incredibly good!!!
Bewley’s Café is a household name in Ireland. The Bewley family moved from France to Ireland in the 18^th century and entered the tea trade in 1835. In the late 19^th century they expanded into the coffee trade and opened two cafes in Dublin, Ireland. Ernest Bewley opened the Grafton Street Café in 1927.
The Bewley’s Café on Grafton Street oozes sophisticated ambiance. This former English grammar school was completely refurbished. The café design was inspired by exotic oriental tearooms in Asia, Egyptian architecture, and French and Austrian cafes. The façade was inspired by the discovery of Tutankhamen’s Tomb in 1922. The most stunning feature inside the café are the six beautifully handcrafted stained glass windows. The Grafton Street location developed over time as the hub of the literary, cultural, artistic, architectural and social life of Dublin. Irish literary and artistic figures, including James Joyce, Patrick Kavanagh, Samuel Beckett and Sean O’Casey were all regular customers at Bewley’s.
The only reason I held back a star is because the service was extremely slow. We told the hostess we were only ordering coffee, but she sat us in the main restaurant with everyone who was dining. It took almost half an hour to receive our coffees, but the wait was worth it. Our cappuccinos and caffè mocha were amazing! It would have been a sin to drink the hand roasted coffee from a paper cup.

I was so excited about coming here tonight but was so disappointed with the service. We we’re upstairs and just couldn’t get a waiter, wasn’t particularly busy.
The soup was nice and the cake was nice too but the poor service really put me off. The staff we’re chatting and ignored us which was really unpleasant.
Will take some convincing to come back

A friend and I were in Dublin for two days — and we had our breakfast at Bewley’s on both mornings.
First, the location is very central and easy to get to/​leave for other tourist attractions. Our lodging happened to be just 10min walk away as well, so the convenience factor was a huge plus. Second, the ambience is great. Walk inside, and you have the option of sitting further inside the restaurant or closer to the entrance; furthermore, the higher level seemed to be decorated with stained glass windows and sculptures, so what’s not to like. Finally, the food and coffee were solid. I tried both the full Irish breakfast and salmon with cream cheese bagel, and both were filling at a reasonable price.
Overall, a great place to pop by if you’re looking for a reliable, pleasant place to eat or grab a cup of coffee!

I got the GF chocolate fudge cake and it was a bit too sweet for my liking, in a synthetic kind of way.
The setting is amazing it feels like stepping into the past.
To be honest they may have an awesome gluten free menu but I was meeting my friends new baby and just picked the first thing that was gluten free on the menu.
I might go back, I might not but if not for the food go for the setting. The staff was under a lot of pressure because it is a tourist attraction so the service could have been better.

Best. Hot Chocolate. Ever.

Oh, and they sell fairtrade-​certified coffee beans from Nicaragua and a few other countries!

Sometimes you want to pass on the Starbuck’s coffee and try something local. We needed an afternoon tea break and Bewley’s has so much seating space. By 4pm, they were already out on a lot of the pastries on their menu. My friends ordered the croissant and sadly it looked like there was a bit of dirt on them. When we returned them, they said it’s because of the oven (hmm, dirty oven?) The tea and coffee was a bit meh and on the overpriced side.
However, I did think it was nice place to take a break in the bustling city centre. Quite spacious where you’re not sitting on top of each other like in certain coffee shops. Overall, I think it’s okay. Worth experiencing at least once but nothing I’d likely to do regularly if I lived in Dublin.

I almost feel bad for rating this old, traditional Dublin café only 2 stars but indeed — I’ve experienced better.
Recommended for sitting down with a coffee or tea, chitchatting about the latest, and for people-​watching alike. Good selection of sweets and bakery stuff on the ground floor. Waiter service is attentive and very friendly in both coffee area and restaurant.
Not so recommended the restaurant. I’ve tried it out a couple of times, this time I ordered a burger, seafood chowder, and drinks. The burger was dry and the taste of the meat patty reminded me of what I got from Walmart a couple of months ago. The seafood chowder also disappointed as it was more like a chowder without seafood.
Bummer, because the location and the interior is great and they could make so much more of it!

Bewleys Café is the oldest Café in Dublin. Its an institution in Dublin and has a prime spot on Grafton Street where you can sit in the window and watch the world go by. You can smell the coffee and cake from outside if the door is open and while the front is a small café where you can get cake and coffee to take away or stay and enjoy it, there is a big restaurant at the back and its beautiful.
Upstairs for me however is the Gem. Bewley’s lunch-​time Theatre. Ive been here several times and I love it. Great productions for ten euro and for an extra 4 you can get soup if you wish.
the shows are not on all the time so you have to check first.

Bewley’s is the ultimate Dublin spot for weekend brunch. Besides being one of the only places open on Grafton Street in the early hours of the morning, they serve up a mean bagel with poached eggs and bacon.
Warning– it’s messy.
Their lattes are also pretty amazing. They roast their own coffee up on the top floor, and after eating here you’ll probably end up seeing it being served everywhere else you go in Ireland.

das bewleys gehört zu dublin wie guiness und joyce, schön, dass es weiterhin gut frequentiert wird. allein die tollen bunten fenster sind schon grund genug für einen besuch, und dann noch scones mit butter und tee wunderbar!

Ein echt cooles Café, mitten in der Fußgängerzone, sehr beliebt, man wird zum Platz gebracht. Leckerer Kaffee, supernetter und flinker Service, das Frühstück (leider nicht getestet) sah super aus. Die Auslage mit Kuchen und Gebäck am Eingang sieht extrem verlockend aus. Für einen Dublinbesuch ein Muss!

Es gibt nichts Gemütlicheres, als an einem regnerischen Tag in Dublin auf dem überdachten Balkon des Bewley’s zu sitzen, eine heiße Schokolade zu trinken und auf die Grafton Street zu schauen. Die Atmosphäre in diesem Café ist einfach unbeschreiblich schön, egal wo man sitzt, es ist gemütlich und schön und dazu noch diese leckere Auswahl an Essen und Trinken! Ich kann die heiße Schokolade empfehlen, aber ein ganz stinknormaler Milchkaffee schmeckt dort auch herrlich. Besonders angenehm finde ich es, dass man sich auch einfach mit einem Buch in eine ruhigere Ecke sitzen kann, mit nur einem Getränk und nicht nach einer halben Stunde aufgefordert wird noch etwas zu bestellen oder zu gehen. Dabei ist das Café immer gut besucht. Die Preise sind auch absolut in Ordnung.

Ich dachte eigentlich das es dieses Café gar nicht mehr gibt, aber scheinbar dann doch noch.
Als ich das letzte mal in Dublin war, da hat man das Café eigentlich dicht gemacht und nur noch den vorderen Verkaufsraum offen gelassen.

Ob zum Frühstück, Mittagessen, Kaffee trinken oder einfach auf die Hand, im Bewleys gibt es immer etwas Leckeres. Der Service ist nett und flink (bei dem Andrang und Gewusel muss er das aber auch) und die Preise stimmen nach meinem Ermessen auch. Unbedingt das «Organic Porridge with Fresh Irish honey and sultanas» probieren, da schmecken sogar die Rosinen betörend drin. Über den Kaffe muss ich ja nicht viel sagen, auch in Dublin gibt es viele Ketten, und Bewleys ist dazwischen schon ziemlich lecker.

J’y ai pris une bière et une pars de Lemon Cake ! Un délice. L’atmosphère et la gentillesse des serveurs sont au top !

Das älteste Dubliner Café, mitten auf der Grafton Street. Hier gibt es Kaffespezialitäten aller Art, man kann sehr gut frühstücken. Das Ambiente auf den 3 Sitzebenen ist meist sehr gemütlich, besonders der hintere Teil des Erdgeschosses lädt zum langen Verweilen ein. Sonntags, wenn die Dubliner die Grafton Street zum Shoppen bevölkern, ist es hier sehr voll. Ab und zu finden hier Theateraufführungen statt.
