The Good Room

Premier arrêt sur la route en direction de Killarney; le routard nous avait indiqué qu’Adare était un joli village où il fallait s’arrêter. En effet, vu le monde, il né doit pas y avoir que le routard qui le dit !
Pas facile du coup de trouver un resto sympa ET avec de la place mais nous avons finalement trouvé The Good Room, un restaurant sans prétentions qui semblait intéressant. Pas une grande faim donc une salade d’été avocat bacon à fait l’affaire. Le service relativement rapide mais avec tout de même un petit hic pris avec le sourire… J’ai pu réviser les noms des couverts en anglais car j’ai du demander ma «fork» pour ma salade et ma «spoon» pour mon dessert; tous deux ayant été oubliés lors du dressage de la table.
Des tarifs très honnêtes pour une cuisine de qualité, contrat rempli !

Just stopped in for a cup of coffee and some pastries and everything was excellent. Good coffee, yummy muffins and macaroons. Wish we could have been here for lunch. We even took some things to go.

Tasty spot for a reasonably priced lunch. My husband and I stopped here for lunch before the castle tour. We started with a pot of tea and a chai latte which my husband reported was delicious.
My main was a warm goat cheese salad that included beet purée, tomatoes, sun dried tomatoes, and walnuts. The warm goat cheese was over the spicy arugula. My husband had a chicken sandwich on a bagel which came with some green salad as a side.
There was both inside and outside seating available. Service was attentive and prompt.
They had some amazing looking desserts but since it was only lunchtime I refrained. Lots of layer cakes, brownies, big scones, and more!

Delicious breakfast foods at a reasonable price. The staff was prompt and courteous as well.

I did like this place but from the moment I walked in there were a few red flags for me. We were greeted and pointed in the direction of a table. It wasn’t especially busy so I would’ve expected the waitress to come over immediately with menus but instead we sat there for five minutes waiting to no avail. Eventually I got up and grabbed four menus from behind the counter. Not a great start.
I thought the menu was good, plenty of options although 90% of the menu is sandwiches. They have gluten free options and gluten free bread plus free range chicken which was ideal. I ordered a gluten free chicken hot sandwich with no onion and I explained both my intolerance to gluten and onions. The waitress acknowledged this and said she’d ensure the relish was left off my sandwich. I thought my sandwich tasted good and the other person in my party thought they were decent sandwiches, though nothing particularly special. Another person is my party had the vegetarian quiche which she enjoyed and the last member of our party had an Indian dish which was a special of the day and he said it was average café food.
Now, here’s the kicker. Despite me clearly explaining my dietary requirements, I still ended up with a gluten filled pasta side salad and an onion filled potato side salad which of course I couldn’t eat a single bite of. If a server says something is gluten free, you’re going to assume you can eat everything on the plate. Obviously from the first glance I knew I couldn’t but wowee that could be dangerous. We did mention this to the woman who rung up our bill who agreed this was totally unacceptable so hopefully this isn’t something that will happen again.
Two members of our group also got a chocolate peanut caramel slice which they said was really nice though softer than they imagined. Overall the meal was good but for my own safety I’d probably avoid in the future.

Hier kann man einen Kaffee oder Tee trinken, ein süßes Stück genießen und ein bisschen Ruhe finden. Ardare ist ein sehr touristischer Ort — zu Recht. Das Café ist eine schöné Erholung obwohl es an der Straße liegt. Ich hatte dort einen Brownie und der war sooo gut!

the food is fresh, the staff were pleasant and the place is clean. We had breakfast there four days this past week and was not disappointed. the waffles are the best. the rest of the family had plain and mixed berries scones and they loved them. The Americano coffee is good but my favorite is the hazelnut cappuccino.

Really lovely food. Excellent staff with a sense of humour and an ability to laugh. Which seems rare these days.
Should’ve called The Great Room. Well worth a bits when in, or passing through, Adare.
