And the only reason why I am a fan of this place is that it’s got a great variety and it’s opened 24 hours. Most supermarkets in Wan Chai close at around 22.30 or 23.00 (besides one in Johnston Road that closes at midnight) and believe it or not, it’s not enough. I have made at least three trips to this branch in Causeway Bay in the last four months because I needed something urgently and my other options in my district were already closed.
Example: I was going hiking the following morning, early, and I had decided that very spontaneously. For that I needed to prepare some food as there was nowhere to buy any along the trail I was walking next day… However my fridge was too empty to prepare anything that could qualify as a meal. So there I was walking all the way to Wellcome to buy some meat and nuts.
For a 24 hours supermarket, it’s amazing. It’s got everything: a huge area with fruit and vegetables, big refrigerated food section, fresh fish and seafood, fresh meat, confectionary, household products, etc. It’s the biggest Wellcome I’ve been to in the Island so far and it’s also higher quality than most of the others (these being rather small and crappy looking).
That convenience comes with a slightly higher price tag, but I still prefer this place to any 7Eleven because for the same price, it offers you options, many in fact. You may just have to walk for 20 minutes for that.
So, yeah, I do recommend you shop here if in an emergency. It’s also funny to see people doing the same as you do and wonder why it got so late for them to go grocery shopping as well!!!
